    Awesome effort mate! It's a pretty brutal river bed but such an epic location. Need to get back in there myself!

      Cheers! Yeah I saw a hilux back in tekapo that didn't fare so well. Got washed away and went rolling down the river.

      Cheers! It's awesome there, now one of my favorite places in NZ. Subi handled it like a champ I reckon.

    Impressive! What is your clearance on that Subi mate?

    • @SwampChook
      @SwampChook  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't remember I'll have to measure it again. But it's only 5mm lower at the than the front crossmember on the Surf.

    Awesome, Can you let us know the main modifications you did on the subi that enabled you to have this great trip. Thanks

    • @SwampChook
      @SwampChook  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The main upgrades that helped is the slight lift, and better tyres. With the tyres it's more about the strength and resistance to punctures than the grip as such. I'm lucky that my car has the VTD centre diff which is a lot better offroad than most of the auto Subarus.

    Have you extended breathers on diff and trans?

    • @SwampChook
      @SwampChook  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have. The factory ones did pretty well though. But if you stop/get stuck then it would be a problem.

    Well done Outback. What lift and tyres Sam? Have you got any recommendations for Forester doable trails around Otago. Going down next week in a Forrie with a 1.5 inch lift, skid plates, AT's. 4x4 NZ reckon Subies can cope with most grade 3. I don't have a snorkel so reckon I'll give McCauleys a miss.

      Hey mate. I've got King Springs lift springs in it and Bridgestone Dueler Ats. Oh nice sounds like your pretty well setup. But yeah you'd want a snorket for Macaulay, and for Macetown. Nevis Valley is worth checking out. Old woman range is doable but very rutty and would be easy to get bellied. Mount Buster is good!
