I love this tree for its beauty, its resilliance and its carefreeness.
Once i used some of the fallen sticks for a small fence to protect a newly planted fruittree and a couple weeks later i noticed my fence was alive. Now i plant gumbo limbos wherever i can.

It’s true, they are so easy to propagate and are so resilient! Thanks for commenting 😀🪴

I have several young Gumbo Limbos in pots. They grow like weeds here in South Florida. So I finally planted two in my yard this past year. You can't easily kill these trees. There are incredibly resilient and i have found them to be very drought tolerant as well. As far as pests, I recently had an infestation of aphids on one of them, but at the same time, ladybugs started to appear on my young tree and it seems that the ladybugs took care of the aphids for me. Really amazing! I'll have to keep watching for that. Otherwise, the two that are in the ground are doing very well and growing fast.

I'm glad I saw this video. So now I know I absolutely need to cut and prune this down a lot. My home builders used this tree and although it looks nice now, but it's too close to my patio and house and can damage it.

wow, that's a really neat tree, great form, exfoliating bark, tropical look to it. I wonder if the flowers or fruit are ornamental? Thanks for showing that.

Hi there. The Gumbo's flowers and fruit are not very showy in their appearance. 😀🪴

I love the look of this tree!
I just lost my 80ft ash tree and my backyard is extremely hot, how fast does gumbo grow and is she more on the root invasive and ruin foundation , garage house?
    Thanks.
Btw .. I live in Los Angeles area , will it do fine here?

Hi, LA is in hardiness zone 10b I believe so the gumbo should do well there. On spacing, the Gumbo gets quite large so you want to plant about 10- 15' from edge of roof line. But roots are not typically invasive. Hope this helps.😀🪴

Hi, Gumbo is a pretty fast grower actually. should do well there. On spacing, the Gumbo gets quite large so you want to plant about 10- 15' from edge of roof line. But roots are not typically invasive. Hope this helps.😀🪴

      Hi
I read that the gumbo limbo tree’s root can lift sidewalks so it’s not wise to plant 10 ft from garage?
I need a semi fast growing tree with a red bark like this but if it’s going to lift the foundation of the garage, it wouldn’t be wise to plant 10ft from structure.???

Hi, I said roof line, (4-5' overhang area) so when you add in that amount it equates to about 14-15' away from structure. Other tree options could be green buttonwood, or verawood, they get a tab bit smaller. hope this helps 😀🪴.

How old was that beauty you featured?

Is it in the Crepe Myrtle? The bark resembles it very much! Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. 🥰🙌🏼🙌🏼

    • @LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
      @LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi there! Both trees have some similarities with wonderfully interesting bark, but genetically, the crape myrtle is in Loosestrife family and the Gumbo is in the Frankincense family, so they are unrelated offshoots from Phylogenetic tree of life chart😀🪴

I wonder if anyone has tried to group it in zone 9a. I know its typically south florida native but we rarely get hard frost in the area of 9a that Im in. At least we haven't in years

Hi there, you could try growing the Gumbo, but I would recommend a protected area ( a wind break like installing on the south side of house) away from NW winter winds. 😀 🪴
