Jeep Rubicon Electronic Swaybar Disconnect Repair 2.0!

- One of the reasons I bought the Rubicon package in 2012, when I was in the market for a Jeep, was the electrinic swaybar disconnect. But as with most vehicles, these luxury items often fail. My sway bar was acting up once again, so I decided it was time to replace the "Smart Bar" with a conventional swaybar from a non-Rubicon Wrangler.
A manual bar isn't the only option. EVO Manufacturing does make a really good manual option. It elliminates the actuator motor which is where the major electrical problems can occur. That being said, you stil have to maintain the slide mechanism inside the Smartbar so this wasn't really an appealing option to me. Checkout their MANUAL RUBICON SWAYBAR DISCONNECT here:

Man I sure needed to watch this! Dealer quoted me 4300 to replace the sway bar module, blinking light and now draining the battery. Junk it is.
Yeah; they're kinda terrible. It's great if you're a part-time wheeler, but as soon as you start doing it regularly, the "SmartBar" will fail.
Thanks for this. I am getting a random chime and momentary sway bar light on the highway. It’s only happened twice, but thinking I will get ahead of this and get rid of the smartbar as you did.
Thanks, mine has just started to get flaky. Looking for other options.
Bro, you should be using heatshrink with meltable glue on those wires. Electrical tape will come off after some time.
Fuse is pulled; if it comes apart I’ll shrink wrap then.
@@JustEmptyEveryPocket that’s a good start…just keep in mind the COM BUS wires are still connected to the BUS… shorting those to ground could cause some issues.
simple is often better. Too bad it wasn't more reliable, that is a cool feature.
Agree; cleaning out each year sucks; but for 99% of the wheelers out there it’s totally fine and never fails.
I switched mine to the AntiRock Swaybar from Rockjock. They make the Jeep a bit softer on regular roads, but still very comfortable, and make the transition to the trails a breeze as they dont need any disconection. So far in my top 3 favorite mods. Did you consider those as well? Great video again, keep them coming!
I would loved to have gone to those but they were 2x the cashola. They look pretty hot though…I can see them eventually making their way into Rubi heheh
I want to know how you stop the light from blinking once you take it out into the new non-electric sway bar
I used a programmer; skip ahead to around 7:40.
Question does removing the J11 affect anything else electrically ? Do you have any advice on a programmer. I 2008 Rubi with 250,000 miles. I have a lifetime maxcare warranty through Daimler and a lifetime drivetrain through Mopar. They have rebuilt for free front end twice now. This time the Smartbar broke and they covered everything but that. To keep my warranty for the rest of the jeep or if they replaced it with a new smartbar they would void my maxcare warranty through Daimler . So I did your modification witch my service tech recommended.
If you have uconnect with the smartphone app you will not be able to lock/unlock the doors from your device. You will have to use the keys to lock/unlock the doors. Also, if you have a power sliding door it won't work :P
On my jeep, none of these features are present so I am completely unaffected.
I don’t know what to say about the programmer…the taser is popular but I have no idea what it does to this warranty you have. The only warranty I have right now is my VISA card credo limit 🤪
If you remove the electric sway bar should you remove the fuse for it?
@@Sunkist75 I did (5:08)
Yep mine broke . 2800 for tge part .I said F that. Changing it out.
Yep; heard that a lot. I do miss the convenience of just pressing a button, but now I don’t have to worry about it shorting out. Simple is better IMO.
