You can sneak attack (overhand sword attack) and one hit kill every enemy except the zombies (which you mostly can just run past if needed). You do of course need to wait until enemies are somewhat separated from each other or else their death sounds will alert others and prevent you from further sneak attacks. Blackjacking humans is silent and preferable to killing them (and necessary when playing on Expert). Great review, really covers the fact that after all this time the original Thief games (1&2) are still top notch stealth games.
Thanks for covering this one, the thief series is my favorite when it comes to stealth games. The sound design in this one is still unmatched to this day. Great review as always!
I also didn't play Thief until after playing The Dark Mod, and since playing T1/2 they are easily all time favourites, I both hope for and fear a remaster.
I play this game on an old Windows 98 computer with a Sound Blaster Live sound card. It sounds amazing with both EAX (reverb effects) and HRTF for hearing sounds both around and above or below your ears! Headphones are highly recommended for these games.
I loved the supernatural levels! Those were the levels I remember the most. I don’t like Thief 2 as much precisely because it downplayed the supernatural elements. Return to the Haunted Cathedral and Shadlebridge Cradle from Thief 3 were my favorite levels in the series. I loved the creepy atmosphere! Nothing was more terrifying than running around trying to escape from one of those animated skeletons!
I liked both, I mean lord bafford really hooked me on the series but I am a horror fan and wish T2 included some more of it. Actually I am a horror fan because of thief and penumbra
I personally prefer Thief 2 but I will admit I would’ve loved at least one undead mission, which would’ve happened in Thief 2 Gold. Thief 1 had a bit too many undead for my liking, but I’ll admit Thief 2 did go a bit too far of barely including them. Still enjoyed when the did show up, such as in the Haunted Library in Casing the Joint/Masks, Capt Markham’s ghost ship, the necromancer’s spire etc
Thief 1-3 have such an amazing atmosphere. Thief 4 on the other hand is an abomination in every aspect, it's one of those games that looking at them standalone they don't seem that bad, but as a continuation of an established series they just piss me off (other examples would be Dead Space 3 and Halo 4).
6:05 Actually, the alarm was triggered because you were seen by a security camera that was right above you. That prison level introduces these cameras without notice, so it's easy to get caught by them unintentionally. Also, having a weapon out (that's not the Blackjack) will increase how visible you are. The sword and fire arrow make you stand out the most. The sword also reduces your movement speed quite a bit, so it's recommend to always have your Blackjack out. The Blackjack doesn't affect your movement speed and doesn't increase how visible you are.
The Thief series is probably my favourite game series of all time (except T4 but we dont talk about ThiAf :P). Something else people need to know is that the original two Thief games have a HUGE selection of GREAT Fan Missions. The original games are the equivalent of a drug dealer giving you the first hit for free. The TTLG forums are a good starting point for all things Thief. Its a real tragedy that this series has been overlooked in modern times because "new gamers" arent interested in games like these. Also I hate to be THAT guy but none of the missions force you into combat like you said. Stealth and avoidance alone can carry you through the whole game
Wait a minute a Master Garrett content????!!!!!!!! Instant like. Still waiting for a smart developer to overhaul Thief to modern standards while keeping loyal to its roots...
@@tekken.universal2343 What new thief game are you talking about?? I hope you don't mean that crappy Thi4f game that everyone want to forget its existence but that game's almost 10 years old by now
@@agrashh i mean that great one it should be around 10 years old indeed and i enjoyed it more than the whole dishonored franchise and you don't even hav super powers in that game
The only two good Thief games were the first two. Not that crappy reboot Teef and yes I'm calling it that because that's how those idiots pronounced it. Embracer owns the IP or was that Activision.

I was the opposite, I preferred to rob lords in their estates, keeping the more human element, made me feel like a thief

The atmosphere, level and sound designer is incredible, one of the best games I've played in my entire life, this game is a masterpiece.
"The levels are confusing, especially for first time players". The Thieves Guild map is still just as confusing on my 8th playthrough.

Deus Ex: Invisible War and Fallout 3

What's wrong with #4 😅 it was great. Are you regurgitating what others said about it. Did you even play it?
Love thief 1-3! Thanks for covering this
I felt that #4 (2014) was better than all the first 3 combined. For anyone that hasn't allowed their nostalgia to blind them, this is obvious

Vibe will be hard to save
The new thief game is actually good so try that one

Thief makes you FEEL like Thief. 10/10
I've brought myself to the fence a few times hoping to find a new thief game since Xbox. But, that reboot really scared me.

Finally❤!!
Constantine's mansion. Upside down rooms, hallways leading nowhere, smoke and mirrors... it's basically a fun house! 🤡
So, EAX in 2023...how'd you do it? ;-)
Please review Cursed Halo. I think it will be hilarious
The Thief reboot is my favorite Thief game, way better than all this outdated old slop.
Ewww. Thief 2014 is the absolute worst. It totally disgraced the Thief franchise and its fans.
Thief 2014 is fucking trash

Eh. T3 underrated and a good conclusion to the series. I also appreciated the return of spooky levels
