Thief Deadly Shadows is severely underrated. It may not be quite on par with the first two, but still an amazing game on its own merits. It does some things better than Thief 1 & 2. Its much better than the godawful reboot, or many stealth games after it.
Thief 3 was the first thief game I ever played. I got thief gold and thief 2 years ago on gog and they didn't dissapoint for the most part. Some of the super natural stuff was some of the best and the worst parts of both games, and the level design is something only a madman could think of. But apart from that I enjoyed every last minute with em. The sound design especially thanks to its audio work is immerisve even today, it really sells the environment well. Thief 2 was very close to taking the crown for me, but I think thief 3 is better in a few ways imo. It's a game I spent hours and hours on as a kid so I hold it quiet close. I played it again on pc just a few months before I brought 1 and 2 and it was just as good as I remembered on the xbox version if not better. I used a mods in all 3 games I order to make them run better on modern systems and got all the recommended fan patches and fixes. I will probably have to play through theif 2 and 3 again after this video.
I always play this game my own way which is stealing 100% of loot without being spotted. I mean, like even causing any kind of suspicion I reload. And zero items usage like no water arrows and obviously no noise arrows as those cause suspicion. There is one place in the game where you have to lure one guard because he's blocking the only entrance and that's the only place where I break the rule. I love thus game because it let's you be like wind. Morning they wake up and everything is missing but Noone saw or heard anything suspicious xd
This is called ghosting. It's an approach to the thief series that has a pretty big following on the forums. I love ghosting the 1st 2 games although I don't go as hard u do. love the water and moss arrows too much.
The levels were "dumbed down" because of console limitations at the time. They did the same thing with Deus Ex: Invisible War which was also a big complaint coming from gamers/reviews that played the original Deus Ex back in the day. It was developed for the original Xbox, which had lesser memory space then a gaming PC. As such they had to cut the levels right down with the loading zone's between missions which thankfully was removed by modders with the gold mod. Unfortunately they couldn't find a way to put the city parts together however, that's why you still have the loading zone's in those. Its still an amazing game though. It's also one of my favorite gaming series! ^_^
I actually prefer the PS2 version of Deus Ex to the PC original. And the same with Doom 3 on Xbox vs its PC original. Obviously, it doesn't make a difference for Deadly Shadows as there is parity, but Xbox is where I play it and Invisible War.
@@fossilfernyeah, deus ex invisible wars “dumbing down” problems can be blamed on the engine. Not only was it a bloated mess, but the devs had almost zero experience with it. They pretty much made bad decision after bad decision with it. Same with deadly shadows. I still really like thief 3, but it could of been so much more
Deadly Shadows would've been a much better game if it were PC only and didn't have the third-person view Beat the game, enjoyed the story and graphics, kept Thief 1 & 2, uninstalled Deadly Shadows right after beating it 😂
Rope arrows replaced by climbing gloves, Ugh. I will never let that go To this day game developers are unable to implement a game mechanic that LGS was able to do 25 years ago. Even Thief 4 failed at that where rope arrows were no different than preplaced ladders.
There are two big issues with the game. First the controls are horrible. It is like it was programmed by amateurs. Forget the smooth FPS movement from Thief 1 and 2. This is like you were sticked to the ground and got stuck everywhere. Even picking things is difficult because of this. It is very weird. The second issue is the video performance. It looks like you get 15 FPS or so. It is that jerky. Turning fast might cause you nausea. A really hard games for your eyes. If they fixed these two things it would be great.
I’m here because I kept my copy from 2005 and upon installing, my mouse cursor displayed IN game isn’t synced to my regular mouse cursory, it hangs in the center of the screen on the menus and while playing I think it’s causing an issue with lock picking not displaying. Did you have any ideas on a fix, sense your have revisited the game
Shadows was good and they did try to keep it with the first two. the first two you can fall to your death, but not here. love robbing the cradle, wish there was more detail to the faces. But what they failed at, is the final game level. Yes, there was mayhem and craziness. sadly I walked up to place the final piece to win the game and there was no opposition to stop me, nothing charged me, attack me, to block me and I was totally disappointed.
I loved that game back then. It is the only original Thief game I have played. I would love to see a remake. The cradle level has burnt itself into my mind as one of the best levels in gaming history.
Robbing the cradle was probably the only occasion when I got palpitations and was hyperventilating while playing a video game.

For me Thief: Deadly Shadows was greate and natural end/conclusion to Garrett story

One of my favorite games ever. So Underappreciated.

I wouldn’t totally contribute any “dumbing” down to the Xbox. The industry at the time was changing and the engine itself was a bloated mess.

WQSE?! Revolting, I knew something was off with you! These "people" walk among us!!
I adore this game. I also really love the 2014 Thief.
The old woman (first name was C, don't recall the full name) was THE interpreter, not one of the interpreters

Gaming pastime, you're definitely in my top 5 game reviewer list
At least T3 survived transition to consoles with grace... unlike Deus Ex, or Fallout for that matter...

Em... Uncharted 4,tlou2 and I bet a dozen more, that I can't remember
Dark Messiah has the rope arrow and gaming's funniest kick
Coming from the first two games and the darkmod, the janky controls and movement ruined it for me.

It's my fav in the series, the city (finally) looked like a real place, and like a nonsensical maze... Amazing atmosphere, graphics and sound design

Off topic, but would love to see you do the ratchet and cranks and the newest one that just game out.
Best thief
The only thing is that you can't play the game over 90 FPS
thief 5
maybe you could do a sin review, fps from 1998
you can't hide shadows forever thief.. so get out on pc again ::))
