  • Howdy! I am Daniel with Roslyn Rags. In this video I demonstrate a sun and earth pattern on a 100% cotton t-shirt. The shirt has been soaked in a soda ash solution, 1 cup sodium carbonate to 1 gallon Water. I use procion mx fiber reactive dye.

    Oh gosh. You amaze me each time. Y're so talented. All your incredible designs are made of folds. I admire your patience. The results are STUNNING SUBLIME PHENOMENAL. I'd buy these tie dye T shirts for at last €15.00 from the shop. You've definitely given me the TIE DYE BUG. I will have to bring to a halt all my other craft projects to put my hands into something new and unique. Great gifts too. I used to make batik shirts for me and my family but the waxing process tired me out. This is so simple. My order for tie dye paints and soda ash arrived yesterday. You gave me the "hang" of dyeing everything. I watch all your video tutes more than 3 times per day and never doze off. Thanks for sharing and caring. 🗼👍👍👍

    I've read some older books and some of them recommend a pre-soak in borax. Is that the same or similar to sodium carbonate? Is it worthwhile to use it. You also mention washing the shirt before opening it. Again in the books I've read they say to rinse it in cold water. Is that what you did? How long should we wait until we wash it properly? Great videos, very informative.

      haynerbass pre wash your shirts in water in the washing machine it gets out any chemicals from the manufacturer that may affect the colors when dying it . I use arm and hammer super washing soda . Borox soda ash it's all pretty much the same thing . And for best dye saturation I like to have my shirts damp they are easier to work with and it helps the colors spread more . I order my dyes from dharma trading company . If your using tulip one step dyes I'd recommend not soaking it in soda ash or anything because those dyes already have it in there . Hope this helps

      That sounds about right. I wash my pieces in cold water. I don't see a difference between hot and cold, so it is a little less energy consumption without the hot water.

    do you use sodium silicate for color locking at the end of the drying shirt process ?

    • @RoslynRags
      @RoslynRags  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Amity Tie Dye I use Sodium Carbonate for a pre-soak. I don't think I use sodium silicate, after looking at it, I still don't think I use sodium silicate.

    • @RoslynRags

      Not for most of my designs. Sometimes I will. It makes the process a little slower.
