  • Brief: Welcome back everyone to EverQuest Adventures episode 7. Not Thornblade, it’s actually Mangler this time. We got a new expansion and I went through the saddest moment you may experience playing EverQuest.
    Buried Sea Lore in 1 minute. Takes place off the coast of Odus, the erudite island. [show map] The main city, Katta Castrum was built to house the sickened leader of the Combine Loyalists, Tsaph Katta. [broll of katta castrum] It was once above water and connected to several areas housing Norrath's endangered races, the Shissar, Sphinx, and Kedge. [phinigel auto] Experiments on the Kedge triggered the wrath of the Ocean Lord, Prexus, who sunk the city into the ocean. While it sunk, the magic of a great artifact was used to protect the city and bring air to it. Homes were built for the endangered races, but over the years those races became less satisfied with their surroundings and began to see the Loyalists as jailors. The shissar have fought back causing a lot of damage and the protective magic over the city is beginning to fail and water is seeping through.

    Very sad. I used to play on selo. Literally hundreds of hours put in on a monk/warrior/shaman trio. Then I had to take a few months off and I came back to desertion. There are still offline traders but that’s basically it. It’s creepy almost. Was once my favorite server with my favorite people. Now their all just…. Gone. Good luck with your guild. Mischief is my new home for the time being.

    The truly saddest moment of seeing a guild you love, that you have been a part of through so much content was always the hardest part. I remember my first guild lasted a few years, took me a month before I felt right joining another and still held a soft spot for everyone that stuck through it. All of the raid guilds I joined after it crumbled slowly, half when I was taking a short break from the game (took a lot of 2 to 4 month breaks throughout my play). The other half was worse, I was there for it but my last guild of all is the oddest for me to learn about. It's the one I really fell the most for after the guild right before it that mostly absorbed into it naturally over time. Around 2014 I had came back momentarily just to tour the game a bit, was still in that guild and got immediately deguilded and booted out of the hall by a newer officer. I didn't know at the time but I had returned to a guild I watched crumble under the pressure of VoA progression and came out, which was something that guild had done at least once or twice before. So I spent time researching them to see what happened. They re-surged a bit after my 2014 visit, I would have stuck around had I seen that part of it but was kind of turned away by the officer and being saddened by how much the new folk sucked treating me like I hacked my way in or something stupid. They went on to conquer 2 or 3 more expansions under the leadership of a guy I leveled up with way back near the start of the game and spent a lot of time with in the same guilds or as friendly guilds. Seeing him at the reigns I would have happily followed his lead, guy was a badass in and out of game and always really helpful to everyone. Looks like at some point they faded away, I can see the original parting message on google cache preview but not in the cache or on wayback so not sure what his final words were. That was the real sad moment for me, this guild I had spent so long with, survived a couple mass exodus of players and persevered until it looked like it was finally done for had fallen into the night and I didn't even get to read the parting words of the leadership during that time, at least two leaders I loved and adored playing with. One I would be thrilled to just sit and have a cup of tea with while listening to her travel stories, the other I would have loved to kick back, have some beer and play some pool. Still haven't had the gull to just ask in general if anyone knows what happened and could fill me in, will at some point before I stop playing again and one of those people still contributes to allakhazam so I know he's still playing so I guess been holding out to see if him or any of his alts pop on to ask him first.

    I agree completely. I played on the Fennin Ro server way back when EQ was released and I had joined an all Dwarf RP guild called the Grudge Bearers. The leadership was amazing and their devotion to the guild and it's members created such an amazing experience. I can't express just how much fun I had playing and the amazing times we all had. As time went on and newer games were coming out, the writing was on the wall. In the end, it was decided that the guild would board a boat and sail off into the horizon in search of 'new adventures,' most never to return to Norrath. Still brings a tear to this old Dwarf's eye all these years later.

    Learned how to be a good pally tank in Katta with my sister, her husband and our bard friend. Loved the Solteris raid, right up there with the CoA raid on teamspeak. Saddest though was when we stopped playing together after being attuned for tier 4 in HoT when is was current. Good times that wont be forgotten.

    • @eideticex
      @eideticex 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds about right. It was around PoR time when my guild on live began to really utilize knights again. That made a big difference in content having so many off tanks capable of being raid tank. However it's hard to gear that many tanks, was one of the main reasons that guild farmed so many expansions at once.

    I remember when this happened with my WoW guild they made it to WoD before pop just got too small to keep progressing. I still have some good acquaintances from there, even after many went their separate ways.
    Sadly, I was never that attached to my EQ guilds and I'm not really sure why. It could be my first guild was when I was 13-16 and we'll, not much is permanent at that age. But my second was in my 30s and they actually helped me out a lot. I played at work and in my car on the way to the gym and even at the gym sometimes.

    My saddest memory was reading comments on the then forthcoming Gates of Discord expansion. How it had been play tested by high end raiders and balanced to suit their tastes. It was the end of a slow process that had gotten worse with each expansion: slowly changing the game I loved EverQuest into a game I loathed EverRaid. I thought about it for a day, and then said goodbye to the people I had played with for years.

    A bit of a necro, okay a big one but you asked so I'll tell you.
    Back in the early days of EQ launching me and a few friends played. One of them was a dwarf named Balthur. He was teaming up with several Barbarians over a few days and they invited him into their guild. Now this was a big deal as Sabretooth Bear Clan was, at that time, Barbarian only. They needed a healer for a group, and he asked if I could join, understand I was a High Elf cleric, that's about as far away from a Barbarian as you can get. They were in desperate need, so I was in. Of course, I was happy to join and played my part well. After teaming up for about two weeks I was invited in, only the second non-Barbarian ever. This guild was probably medium sized, but we were moving along content decently and at this point rarely needed outside help. When we did it was from a "sister" guild. As crazy as it is you really get to know people when you chat with them over months playing as much as we did. One of our guildmates passed away in real life and it really hit everyone hard. We all met outside Halas and just talked about things we'd done together and how great he was. You'd never think you could get so attached to someone over a MMO that didn't even have voice chat, but you can it seems. That's been some 20+ years and I can remember everyont there like it was yesterday. I think it's good we didn't have voice chat, probably would have made it even harder.
    That day, even though we didn't know it then and for whatever reason, started the decline of the guild. Slowly people stopped playing, and the guild broke up. Looking back that single day was the worst day of EQ for me because I'd lost a good friend (even if it was virtual) as well as lost touch with a lot of others soon after. I've never experienced the comradery like I did that guild and while I've played a LOT of MMO's sense (some clearly better overall, shhh don't tell anyone I said that) I've never had as much fun as I did back then, with as many really good people. Good times for sure. Thank you for your videos, please keep up the amazing work.

    OMG, I remember those two raids in Solteris. Balreth is hard because each set of splits has fewer hitpoints which makes it easier to lose the balance. Hey I love your videos! Since you played on Thornblade, can you make a video about the current issue of krono farming epic mobs like the Cleric 1.0 Burgurgle camp? On Mischief, this camp is taken 100% of the time and if you happen to actually buy the crown from one of these vendors and give it to the NPC in zone for the next part the farmers come kill the mob and take the crown back to resell it. It has really soured a lot of people's experiences with the new server rules.

    So....EQ broke with me after Live years and years ago hit OOW. I mean just like explained later in this video the end content fight is just stupid. I mean the problem even at OOW you had guilds dropping off the map or people leaving for other games like WOW. Plus honestly EQ got weird. Back in 99 to 04ish time frame, the game mostly took after D&D and had that type of feel. Later on the company took this in a weird alien and ...just crazy direction which made almost no sense from where the game was, hence why the latest expansion is a repeat of OLD material. Because it's looking to bring some back and remind them of the GOOD old stuff EQ was really about. EQ is my all-time favorite MMO but I can only stand playing the earlier expansions because the new ones are just so....stupid. boring, plain and simple don't make sense. Just my thoughts and where I stand. Agnarr is by far the best server and will stay that way until they make other locked servers that go up to OOW, then I will change my thoughts about Agnarr.
