Man....what a gem of a video. At this stage in my life, i haven't allocated time for gaming but I'm constantly praying that EQ1 will still be active when I slow down / retire because quite frankly.....Everquest is my retirement plan lol. Best game of all time.

Enjoying Everquest is like enjoying an old car. It doesn't have all the conveniences and creature comforts of modern cars, but it has a visceral experience that only that time period could provide. It's clunky, it's inconvenient, but sure does it feel great when you accomplish something with it.

Problem with those fancy cars.... Mo conveniences you have, mo problems you see.....
Same issue with the modern games... Not to mention most are trash because they won't challenge a toddler

Your channel inspired me to play this for the first time and I loved it. Played live EverQuest somewhere between 2014-2016 and it never clicked with me. P99 did as soon as I started to understand the basic mechanics. It took a while but it was so rewarding once I found my first gameplay loop. Such a great change of pace from games today which too often are afraid to let go of holding your hand well into the endgame

I've watched this full 3 hour video several times over the last 2-3 weeks. (I have it playing while I'm at work out driving etc. Sometimes only listening, sometimes watching) I know it's a compilation as I've seen the individual videos before but the full package works. your story telling keeps me engaged, makes me want to play. I remember the fist time I took the boat from FP to Butcherblock. I was level 6 or 7 I think and lagged during the boat zoning and spawned in the middle of the ocean, no boat in sight. I was killed by some fish mob (maybe a shark I can't remember) and respawned back in FP with no idea where my corpse and my gear were. The panic at the thought of losing my crappy gear and handful of gold nearly sent me into tears. Thankfully someone suggested I /petition a guide and that guide summoned my corpse because the boat zoning bug was known by that time. I was so grateful I became a guide myself eventually. I was guide Ailron in Xegony and a couple other servers in case anyone remembers. Fennin Ro was my character home server though. Hail Army of Fate and Eternal Crusaders of Norrath guilds (1999-2003).
Edit: Does anyone remember the Sister Island quest with the kola nuts? I gained like four levels in a single day before Verant/SONY got wise and nerfed it to heck. Still one of my fondest memories of my early EQ days.

Early EQ the economy was so hard. Once we got patchwork armor it was amazing. I started in beta. The boats were crazy and before anyone was high enough to bind..running from Qeynos to faydwer at level 6 with invis.. trying to make it running on edge of maps… only to fall off boat ;)

Some videos just take you back to a different time. This was one of those videos man. Awesome job! Never even played EQ, but I remember going over to a friends house around 2000. They were playing EQ and Jedi Knight. I remember them telling me how good bard was and i remember thinking "man that game must suck if BARD is the best class" lmao. They were very very poor. Plywood for walls and floors in their rooms, no joke! But somehow, they had enough for the monthly subscription which boggled my mind. That subscription was a killer for most kids like me back then. My parents weren't having that! Anyways, this is some ACTUAL content. Glad i found your channel.

U said it best at 4:10.
I played and loved EQ from Kunark until about 3 months after Planes of Power came out. That expansion burned me out.
I played EQ2 for a few months, and hated how there wasn't much diversity with armor and roles.
During this time, most of my friends, family and the entire planet was raving about how fun & addicting WoW was.
So in January of 2005, a few of us who were playing EQ2 gave it a shot. Then WoW became my main MMO for years.
Anyway, the creators of WoW lived EQ. They took some of the best aspects of EQ and incorporated them into WoW. They took the worst feature, "soloing" and "mobs with insanely amount of hp" and simplified everything for everyone to solo.
Of course the dungeons were challenging and required a group. Unless u out leveled the area, and then u could literally solo the dungeon.
All of those was new, fresh, and fun.
Then the only negatives ppl said about WoW was, "this game is ez mode. Any 8 yr old with a 5 second attention span could master this game."
Point is, even after really feeling as if your class was an indestructible god, something felt empty.
So many of us in our guild would reminisce about our difficult times in EQ. Many of us craved what was lost. The challenge.
We thought Vanguard would be it. But Vanguard was more like WoW than EQ. And very incomplete.
Then u had other hardcore mmos like Mortal Online, Dark & Light, Darkfall, etc. But these games were either buggy, incomplete, or focused too much on pvp.
There hasn't been a game since Everquest that felt like Everquest.
Closest to the fun was WoW, but that was a different kind of fun.
Pantheon's EA drops on Dec 13th. I know it's still got a ton of work, at least 2 more years of development, but Pantheon could still be the next best Everquest clone.

Everquest is so interesting to me, I have none of the nostalgia for it because I never played but I love the idea others have painted of it. So now I'm going to try Project 1999. I already struggle enough with the menu minigame called "where the hell even is anything?!" on Everquest live, am I in for a rough ride? Haha.

I remember playing with players for weeks only to gain just a few levels together. This is one of the things that newer mmos miss. The grind and reward for putting the time in. Not to mention hell levels. Make me spend days getting one level and learn and master each skill your class gets one at a time.

Traveler's backpacks is out for 1.21. I added it manually for a backpack mod. Not sure if ATM will or not.

I remember being quite good with my Rogue way back in the day, when Rogues had _juuuust_ been discovered were OP at higher levels. Being a bad ass at group corpse retrieval from deep dungeons was bith a source of pride and a giant pain in the ass, but the Pride absolutely outweighed the frustration of being one of the only people around able to do so.

something people dont realize. Im 99% sure the down time to recover Health/mana was planned because it encourages talking to your party Edit: just got to ep.2 and omg dial up was so bad where I lived at 1 time was a party line so that 56kbps was like 6kbps or something. i remember an update once took me like 3 weeks because it tied up the phone couldn't just keep it running

at those low levels, the exp loss is next to negligible. You get that exp back in like 5 to 10 mobs in a group. Also charmed pets can't take aggro if a player is within melee proximity of the mob. It always focuses on the player.

You are correct man. The whole point of a MMO is the community and people playing together. Every class able to solo and queuing up for dungeons destroyed MMO's

  • @SoyAntonioGaming

Monk is the best class because you can intentionally train mobs on people by using feign death. Then when the GM comes to talk to you, you just keep pretending to be dead to avoid ban.

I am so ready for an EQ1 remaster
If that were done well - keeping the original style of graphics but higher poly/res (one of the dudes that works on M&M has beautiful renditions of the troll and froglok)
Update combat a little to make melee more interesting and there you go
