You could try like a sidecar idea for a boat to fit in. Like on the starboard or port side you can build out an extension with a cutout for the bow of a boat to settle in. Not only will it serve as a dock for your boat but instead of just dragging the raft/float the boat has something to push against for hopefully more control and better transfer of energy.

No kidding! We’re building drawers for our truck bed and used HD wood. It required so much imagination to get the boards remotely close to straight. The best is when you’re running one of these boards on a table saw and the wood catches the blade because of how much free warping it does. Seems criminal to sell such low quality wood.
That is where the 55 gallon barrels would be an advantage. Not free, but usually $10-15. That is the cost of two totes, but each tote is what, 15gal/60qt. Twice as much boyancy for the price and a LOT more durable. But, this is the "every person's raft" that can be built from off the shelf components, so that is cool too.
Great job! Very cool! I built one similar to this (Much smaller, just for day trips on a pond). I added a couple of access holes to the deck, so I can store gear in the totes, and save space up too. Again, this is much smaller, and not meant for week long excursions.
So i think you can use drum here for save more money.. Even the used drum... Just like here on lake toba, they make some cage or floating fishing spot near the lake..
The usual procedure to have a floating platform with containers floaters is to fill the containers with a kind of styrofoam that is sold on hardware stores for that purpose. It's liquid and it expands in contact with the air and makes the inside of the containers totally water-proof.
