Come join us for an inspiring story and ride down Pacific Coast Highway from Bixby Bridge in Big Sur to Cambria, California with our good friend, Aaron Baker! Aaron is recovering from a severe spinal cord injury that initially left him a quadriplegic, and after nearly 23 years in the making, he is able to ride a motorcycle! He took us on a ride down memory lane, showing us around his home town, before heading back down the coast.
We stop at some iconic PCH stops for food and views along the way and enjoy every mile!!

ABOUT PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY
Highway One follows the Pacific coastline from Baja to the top of the Olympic Peninsula. The most scenic is the 139 miles from Monterey to Morro Bay near San Luis Obispo.
Seventy thousand pounds of dynamite blasted through the granite, marble and sandstone of the rugged terrain and lime was smelted for making concrete. The heaviest construction was in the 65-mile section between Spruce Creek and the area north of San Simeon. More than 10 million cubic yards of rock was blown away. In 1945, work crews found some of the original dynamite sticks under a section of the road. Although the construction was essential, much devastation was caused by dynamiting and later bulldozing and scars and subsequent repairs are visible.
From the 33 bridges constructed with Highway One comes the famous Bixby Rainbow Bridge at Big Sur that we know from automobile commercials. Eight hundred twenty-five trucks brought in 6,600 cubic yards of concrete and 600,000 pounds of reinforcing steel. The rainbow arch was first formed with 300,000 board feet of Douglas fir.
The Pacific Coast Highway provides the opportunity to visit some of California's best tourist spots. British sailor, Jack Swain, built California's First Theatre in Monterey in 1847. It was intended as a boarding house and saloon, however the first play was performed there in early 1848. Today it remains a popular playhouse. Fisherman's Wharf and Steinbeck's Cannery Row are must-sees, although the canneries are selling souvenirs rather than sardines. Fort Ord, a former U.S. Army base now houses California State University at Monterey Bay. Founded as a cavalry post in 1917, it became a major training post during World War II. Most recently, Fort Ord was home to the 7th Infantry Division until 1993. The post's airfield was turned over to the city of Marina. At beautiful Carmel-by-the-Sea, Clint Eastwood's Hog's Breath Inn is a great break before touring San Carlos Borroméo de Carmelo Mission or Carmel Mission. Here at the foot of the Main Altar of Basilica rest the remains of Padre Junipero Serra, known as the Apostle of California. The treasure hunter tourist who loves scuba diving can climb down into Jade Cove, where a cave is home to naturally polished jade. Pieces of small jade may be found throughout the cove. Point Lobos State Reserve offers nature trails to China Cove, noisy Sea Lion Point and Cypress Grove. For a fee tourists can take the 17-mile drive to famous Pebble Beach.

What a great story of perseverance to continue on and live an adventurous life style by Aaron. My neighbor is a paraplegic and rides a trike and the grin she has on her face either riding or just talking about rides is fantastic. She has her wheel chair strapped to the back so when it is time for a stop, she has her mobility. The reflection of the day at the end of your film was inspiring! Great job showing that in your presentation.

I love watching y’all’s videos man, always great content. Arron’s story hit me hard because I’ve had a struggle myself to walk again and get back in the saddle. Last April 14th I underwent an L4/L5 back surgery because my L4/L5 disc was herniated and calcified which in turn started cutting through my spinal cord and I was partially paralyzed. That was a tuff year of many ups and downs learning to walk again and activate muscles that weren’t activated for some time. I honestly thought I’d never walk again but I fought through it and I’ve recently got back into the saddle, nothing too far but I’m back in. The feeling, my Gods the feeling to almost be normal again is indescribable but then the pain started coming back, the legs weakening started coming back…………… I now have to undergo another surgery for a 3 level fusion……not happy at all and I hope, no, I know I’ll bounce back for this one just like before and if not………we’ll seeing Arron doing what he’s doing now and his story, man I know if he can do it then I can.
You guys are great and Arron is an inspiration,so, SEE YALL DOWN THE ROAD ONE DAY.
That brings chills!! Thanks for sharing, Pork Chop. It is certainly a story of triumph in that when you have an example and set your mind to something, over time it is possible. That was one of the most moving things that Aaron mentioned off-camera, was that he wishes that he had someone like his current self to look up to in his early days of recovery, so he is doing everything in his power to be that person for those struggling now.
Sorry to hear about your hurdles, but we hope that the upcoming surgeries do the trick and you are able to enjoy the freedom of the open road once you are all healed up and recovered.

Awesome story. In another video I didn’t even realize he was handicapped, just thought he enjoyed riding the trike. Wasn’t until the end that I found out. Great guy, glad he’s riding. Cool trike as well.
Aaron is the man! Yup, he has overcome some seemingly impossible obstacles to live the life that he does and he continues to amaze us. He is leaving for a world tour on his pedal bike in just a few weeks, where he will be raising money for spinal cord injury research.

He has great spirit and a joy for life Highway 1 the most beautiful drive driving down Oceanside I did that road from the top of one all the way down in a 60 Austin Healey 3000 top down all the way even in the rain a long time ago I remember as if it was yesterday as he will on that awesome three-wheeler

Great video and interview with Arron and his mom, a perfect example of the human body taking on a challenge and beating it !! And getting on a bike is the icing on the cake at beating that challenge. And that is the best run on a bike, one of the reasons California may be hard to deal with taxes and stuff but hard to leave because of what we as bike riders get to enjoy.

It may not be the type of "trendy" content that blows up online, but we're just doing what we enjoy in hopes that others do as well. These are stories that need to be told and heard!

Man this was so inspiring as a new rider! I live down in Santa Barbara and have dreamed of this trip since I was a kid. One of my favorite drives (we even did this during our COVID honeymoon road trip), and always wanted to ditch the car and do it on less wheels. Finally have a bike of my own, and after watching this, I am feeling so juiced up for the ride. I'm already looking at hotels. Only have one problem......HOW DO YOU CRUSH THIS RIDE WITHOUT BEING DISTRACTED BY THE VIEW??
I got back last week. From Ohio I did rt. 66 to LA. Up the PCH to Leggett. Stopped in Sturgis to see the guys at Legend suspension. Something was going on with my rear shocks and they said they need rebuilt. 2 hrs. latter I was on the road back to Ohio. The PCH needs to be on everyones bucket list

Another outstanding video with amazing scenery! You guys never disappoint (well, except for maybe that one time you were singing, LOL!). This gets me juiced up to ride the coast again although I'm in northern NV so I like the ride from the Bay north. Would love to share a ride with you guys some time.
