I just picked up the Tab S6 for work (I'm a marketing director) over the iPad. What drew me to the Tab S6 is it's file manger which is much more useable than apple's. It plays nicely with my Samsung t5 ssd and allows me to leave my MacBook pro at home when I travel. The expandable memory is a great feature as well.
im in marketing too and im stuck on which one to get. Especially with full photoshop now on iPad. any other insight you can give to help with my decision???

Also, people keep forgetting the the tab s6 came with different tips so if u dint want the paper feel and want it to glide instead, change it to the white tip.
You can use the spen without charging it. The battery is only for Bluetooth.

THIS feature was something I noticed immediately only because I was like, well, how magnetic is the pen?!? AND, it also led me to a specific case to buy (not Samsung branded but similar) just because it let me have the freedom of placing the pen to the side when I set it down without having to dock it behind. What I was disappointed but not horribly was that it only works on the long sides (horizontal) and not on the short sides (vertical). BUT overall, neat.

I also wrote a review, (same username) and found out that the case I bought (Ztotop) has a major flaw, when you try to write on the tablet while the case is on, the magnets in the back part of the case cause enough interference in spots in the middle of the screen. So I, have just resorted to shifting the tablet off the side with the magnets and just leave it on the side with the cover and that's fine only when I have something quick to jot down. I even just close the cover on the tablet and it's good enough to hold when moving around or to just have it protected when not being used. Otherwise, if I'm going to use it for a while, I remove the case and set it aside while I work. It's more for protection when in my briefcase and if just sitting next to me or wherever I put it down.
This was bought to replace an old Lenovo tablet which was essentially too sluggish to cope with modern websites. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxz4qYZoyAOb_hq_UbaKI6AsZX0FnoFm-U This tablet is fast, has a very clear display with built in optional eye comfort shield, great sound with Dolby Atmos, split screen option and numerous tweaks that I've not yet explored. I've plugged a wireless receiver into the i/o socket to connect a mouse if I need it and a bluetooth keyboard works fine - unlike the Lenevo which somehow would often garble the input. Battery life seems good. In short I'm very pleased with it

Good comparison. I had the S6 and Ipad Pro for side by side comparisons for a couple of weeks. The big thing is a few of those pro apps like Lumafusion. I'm hoping, with the S6, we can get some iOS app developers to start working on Android apps. Just ignore every other tablet. Samsung is the only Android tablet they should develop for.
Will have to disagree about the Pen. Found both pens equally comfy, but it felt better writing on the S6 with the pen. More paper like. And I think the Samsung Note app is magical. The fact that it has built in OCR where you can search your notes is a big deal for me when I'm using it for work. And all the additional functionality of the S Pen you went over like Smart Select...I use it all the time.
120hz is cool, but better color production on the Tab S6 while watching media won me over. Tab S6 also supports 1440p video and HDR. It was just better for media consumption with the aspect ratio as well.
Really hard decision. Lumafusion is really the only thing that kept me going back to the iPad but in the end Tab S6 won me over.

I have the S5e and am looking to upgrade to either the iPad Pro or the Tab S6. I love the S5e and having a version of it with more power and a trackpad would be nice. Apparently Brydge is making an iPad Pro keyboard with a trackpad to be released Jan or Feb of 2020. Something to think about. For now though, I think I'm getting the Tab S6.
That would be awesome but we'd all better be ready to spend some $$$ if android tablets are to get developer attention like the iPad.and when it does happen Ihope OnePlus finally gets in the tablet market.

@@jaybee0507 I had the S5e and the S6, I returned the S6 because the web it just isn't as powerful as the iPad Pro. The media experience is much better on the S6 though. The speakers are way louder and the OLED HDR content looks great. If you are mostly consuming media and are not looking for more of a laptop experience, then I would go Tab S6. The iPad Pro won't play over 1080p and isn't as loud.

Your leaning toward Apple does show, and you make no bones about that. I have the 2018 12.9 512gb Pro! I prefer the 4 x 3 screen ratio, the OS and the accessibility features. The Tab wins on price, but when you buy an Apple product you are getting a lot more than what is in the box.at the end of the day, horses for courses! It’s down to personal preference and requirements.
I’ve paired mime with the Brydge Pro keyboard. It is not perfect, but suits my needs better than any other I’ve tried.

I watched because I want to buy a tablet to enhance my learning. Specifically, I want to be able to read and interact with PDF documents; draw sketches and mind maps; write notes; and draw detailed and labelled diagrams.
Because of the price tag attached to the iPad Pro I was hoping to go down a cheaper route and maybe consider the Tab S6. However, prior to watching your review, my gut feeling was that the iPad Pro would do the job the best but with a heftier price tag attached.
You review has helped me to make up my mind - so I will start saving for the iPad Pro!

Again for the drag on the screen you have different tips for the pen coming in the box you can change between smooth writing or more paper like writing

Wow great video! Love that you’ve taken criticism into account and made adjustments I don’t see that nearly as much as I’d like. I just got the iPad Pro 11inch but I’m going to return it and get the tab s6, the iPads 120Hz screen and really responsive pen are amazing and probably better than the s6 but iOS even with the extension to iPad OS just feels too suffocating I can’t customise the experience to work for me like I’m used to with my note 9.
I have a note 9 and an iPad pro too, and I'm thinking of selling the iPad and getting a Tab S6 instead because I'm finding it so frustrating!
I’ve been a Galaxy Note user for a few years, so got a Tab S6 thinking it would work better with my Note10 and Galaxy watch. After a week I’m not very impressed. Tab doesn’t support Samsung Health app, Wear app doesn’t pair with Galaxy Watch, can’t have two browser windows open side by side, etc. Facebook only in portrait in tablet mode, then on DeX only does landscape. I use FB marketplace a lot and the tab’s FB app has a formatting bug where it cuts off some of the edges of the screen. Every time I use the Spen my finger rests right where the button is and gets pushed often. Attaching the Spen to the rear, which I’m not crazy about, it has to be oriented a certain way so I fumble with it more often. Can’t use the Call and Text Continuity feature of the S6 because I have an ATT Note 10 (which I need to have Hd voice and other features). Having Samsung Notes on the S6 is the biggest feature for me, but not sure it’s enough to get me away from the IPad Pro 11. I’m not an Apple fan at all, never owned anything besides iPad, so I was really hoping the Tab S6 would be a better fit but doesn’t look like it so far.
Excellent comparison! I have a Tab S4 and I love it. The battery is slightly bigger, has a headphone jack and will get Android 10 soon. I get 9-10 hours OST which is killer for me.

The review is gr8..but what would you pick you have the option between this two..bcoz I am also planning to buy one..and I am iPhone user, it has been only smartphone that i have been using till now..so what would you recommend me, considering both this option..
When buying a tablet I think it's important to look at what you'd be using it for. Is it productivity or consumption?
For productivity, you're essentially looking for something that's as close to a laptop as you can get. I would argue that the S6 does this better than the iPad because you have features like Dex mode and a wider range of options for apps and storage(microSD card). It's smaller screen size also makes it more portable and affordable.
If you're just using it for consumption, then a smartphone would do it best, because you can't get more portable than that and it functions as your phone lol. But I think the iPad would be better suited for this because you have a larger screen to view videos, take pictures and draw on.
Other dealbreaker features to consider would be battery life and port options(usb/audio jack).

There is a lot to consider when contemplating the purchase of tablets like these, and these reviews help to make those purchases easier. In ~2017 I found myself debating between the Tab S3 and the 10.5" Ipad Pro. I needed to have the excellent capability with the stylus for writing handwritten notes in clinicals, class, etc. I liked the functionality of the Samsung device but found the palm rejection and cleanliness of the written experience to be a little muddier than the iPad Pro. At the time, Android didn't offer an excellent notetaking app as iOS has such as Notability, Good Notes, etc. Had my entry vessel been keyboard alone, I think I would have stayed with the Tab S3, but I needed cross-compatibility between programs that would allow me to scan PDF and allow me to zoom in and write on them in a sharp, clean format. To me, and at the time, the iPad Pro simply outperformed in this area.
Recently, I considered the purchase of the Tab s6 because I was curious and had worked some overtime to spoil myself with a purchse. I was a bit disappointed to see little improvement in the writing ability and cleanliness of the handwriting aspect... the iPad dominates in this field. Secondly, I am surprised that with as popular as Notability, Good Notes, PDF Expert are, Android developers still haven't created apps that come close to their capabilities.
I think if Samsung and Android made improvements in these areas, they would find a ton of people flocking to this device or those like it. Countless comments on these reviews cite the reasons for staying with Apple to be similar to these thoughts.
not android, but samsung now has an app called Samsung notes, it's literally the copy of good notes and amazing for pdf annotations too. But it's available for FREE! tho, as I said, it's exclusive for Samsung devices only
Nice review. Have been back and forth on which to get but the screen, expandable storage and lower price push me more toward the S6 for my photography business. I can get all the apps I need for editing on Android so no issues there.
Might as well watch video in portrait mode on iPad you get about the same size screen as landscape with the 2 inch black bars .

I have both.
Laptop replacement? Tab s6 running dex with the keyboard case is the winner(there is a trend on these reviews saying the keyboard case back is adhesive, and it loses its stick but this is %100 false, it is a surprisingly effective rubber mount that relies on suction, people complaining that it wont go back on 1. Need to clean the Tab and the rubber ring and 2 stop removing it so often, its not designed to be removed all the time) . Emailing, simple word docs and file transfering. S6 files system is so easy to navigate and as close to a pc as youll get from an android tab.
Drawing and design? Ipad pro, running affinity designer and procreate, apple pen is 10x better for drawing and way less latancy. Im a Samsung fanboy, but im a graphics designer, Ipad wins here unfortunately. Ipad pro 12.9 with apple pencil 2 is still the gold standard for close-to professional design setup. And will have a 3 to 4 year life with the current spec standards.
Gaming and media consumption,
Tab s6 is the clear winner, the ability to connect my 8Bitdo controller and having compatability across the board for games to emulators.
Also emulators run really well on the s6 such as ePSX and Damon Ps2.
This tab runs san andreas better then my ps2 did back in the day. And the SPen feels good for point and tap games like buldurs gate and runescape.
Samsung "Ecosystem" Tab s6 connects to the buds as easily as the phones and latency free. Buds paired with your watch or phone? Simply open the galaxy wearables app and it will automatically connect to the Tab from now on until you open the wearables app on the phone. And vice versa. Simples

I currently have the Tab S3 and am getting ready to "trade" it in at Best Buy for a small store credit. I am not into the Apple ecosystem but I"m drawn to it for the screen size because I am a heavy content user. However, the cost of the Pro tablet, adding on the expense of the pen, makes me lean toward staying with Android. Because I am old, screen real estate is important to me so this decision is tough in that regard. But, because I'm old, cost is also a huge factor. You stated up front that this was going to be a long video, and I'm grateful it was. You covered a lot of territory and for someone like me, it was very much appreciated. I'm still not sure about the direction I am going to take, but you helped me get a little closer as far as narrowing my decision down.

I'm a Samsung guy and i think the tab S6 looks really freaking cool. However, i just feel like the Ipad Pro is going to be hard for anyone to beat. That 120hz refresh rate even on this video looks amazing. Plus the video editing capabilities just look incredible. I wish you did do a full comparison on the editing part though.

@2:48 technically the amount of power consumed by amoled vs ips LCD should depend on 1) backlight used by lcd and 2) what percentage of the amoled is lit to what degree...a dark mode will save power on an amoled but not an lcd
Yes but the iPads IPS LCD will also slow down the display hz to conserve battery. The S6 stays constantly at 60hz. Compared to the iPad that goes up to double that at 120hz and can go down to 1/4th that refresh rate to 15hz to save battery. That’s apart of the ProMotion technology.

Tab s6 has mouse support ( you can connect and actual mouse via dongle) and also the keyboard case has a trackpad which is better for productivity.

@@apanage880 it already has mouse support. Except is not mouse support, in my opinion crappy, because it emulates touches not a mouse ( a cursor). I've seen videos of it. It is supposed to help people with disability.
I got both and I prefer iPad better. After iOS 13, it surprisingly has better multitasking windows, better apps, and much more quality games.
I do prefer the iPad but I'm happy Samsung is getting so close, we finally can have a competent Android tablet
@@apanage880 Not quite like that. The mouse will behave like a finger not like a traditional mouse cursor. This is something supported by Samsung since 2016. I don't know what is the difficulty for Apple have this simple feature.
You can also create a shortcut to open two apps in split view on the tab S6.

Noah, here in Brazil the iPad Pro costs twice as much as the galaxy tab s6. Without Apple Pencil. And the iPad Air 3 costs the same price as the S6 tab. I am a university student and I edit short videos. Given the price difference, and my type of use, which device would you recommend me to buy?

Dude thanks for the reviews after weeks of not being able to decide.. I went for the ipad pro and I am so happy I did, the Apple pencil 2 experience is amazing. If I had gone for the cheaper ipad with the old pencil I think I would have depressed of getting an old tech for like 450 dollars/euros. The 120 Hz display is indeed amazing. no one is going to crucify you. i think this was a very balanced review. honestly i think it comes down to usage. i think people in the video editing photo editing realm should go with the iPad but for some one who just wants the freedom away from a laptop but with the convenience i think the tab S6 is far sufficient. both will make you happy but i'm not disappointed with the ipad being more expensive because it is a true premium experience. i use windows and a note 10 plus so the tab S6 would fit in perfectly but i always say i will get a surface before i buy any tablet
denziiey I sold my iPad and got a surface pro 5. I love it... I absolutely LOVE the built in stand... but it’s still just a portable pc. If you want something just purely for consumption and apps you still require a mobile (OS) tablet.

if you are or more on the note taking side, go with the ipad air and if you are more on videos, tab s6 is the obvious choice bcz of OLED display
If you can get comfortable with the note taking apps on play store, the tab is gonna be good too. But I would assume there are better apps available on ipad
tab is just as good as the iPad for those uses and it's a lot cheaper PLUS it comes with the stylus. You tell me which sounds better.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I've been switching back and forth between these two OS, and I think Android is a little bit better. Most apps in IOS require subscribing before using for the first time. It's hard to try them beforehand. Also, I'm struggling to find a good note app on IOS.

which of the two works better with Microsoft programs? Which one do you feel works better for work?
I just bought the S6 only to find out that now Microsoft have stopped tablets over 10.1 from using Office apps, now only for viewing, not editing or creating. The only way I can use full Word is by being a teacher.

@@FT-ki9cn it depends on your needs and amount of brain..if you need produtivity - surface , if you need fashion toy - ipad. exact the same situation as s6 vs ipad pro- you can do same and cheaper, but with ipad more showing of, than real productivity :D
Great vid, wahat about external display on dex? Can I clon screen from tablet or it can only leavs tablet screen on tablet and dex screen on external screen? Can I use stylus on external screen dwawing or pointing something on tablet screen? Maybe You can do comparison of external display using :)
kwolski80 You can have Dex on external QHD monitor, and use Android Tablet mode on the tablet. You can also mirror the tablet mode to the screen while drawing.

One huge issue I have is the display comparison. There’s a reason most computers still use IPS LCD displays. They have overall more natural colors and are better for media editing especially color grading. OLED has its perks still but right now it struggles with high hz displays. That is one perk of the iPad display too the ProMotion 120hz display. Which makes it the better display. Promotion also doesn’t mean just 120hz all the time, it’s variable hz. So it matches what you’re doing on the display. Playing a high FPS game the display will stay higher hz. Watching a 24fps movie it’ll drop to 24hz. If your display is on but not being used it’ll drop the FPS down all the way to 15 FPS to conserve battery. It’s these small things Apple does that I feel make it the better display.

2:34 why is it that the border of tablet is more black or darker than the black bar in the video. I always notice it in Samsung Oled tablets. I think it's perfect only for dark rooms but daylight use.
Excelent review. This time Apple have a rival on par. It comes just about personal preference. I recognize all the iPad qualities but living outside US I would never consider Apple products because of the cost and also the S6 features are more appealing to me.
The file sharing in android is a LOT better than iPad OS! aside from this, the iPad OS does a real deal breaker. I have been using my new iPad Pro 2020 for a week now & its flawless.

If I were you, I‘d wait at least until November. Even though leaks are saying there won‘t be many upgrades, you‘ll never know. I‘d just wait that one month. Even if the 2019 iPad Pro is not worth it, you can still get the 2018 version cheaper.

Noah, I think you presented an objective piece albeit skewed severly toward the IPad. I wanted to mention a feature you didn't talk about, wireless mouse support the S6 has it right out of the box. Combine this with the samsung keyboard cover and Dex and you really have something!
Very true and yes I lean iPad. But I hope it was objective enough. If I really was biased I would have totally minimized all the awesome features of the Tab S6!
Here's something not mentioned. I just priced these out at Buy. Ipad pro is $250 more, plus you have to fork over $140 for the Apple Pencil, and the keyboards are relatively the same price. $400 more for the Ipad Pro. Just a thought. If you learn how to use it I very much doubt in today's climate where everyone is copying everyone else that the Ipad Pro has capabilities that the Tab S6 doesn't.
Noah, usually when I come across this type of comparison video, I immediately default to my anticipated-bias position, and most of the time I am not surprised. Biases range from somewhat, to extremely biased, to outright ignorant rants against the non-Apple device. Quite frankly, I get really pissed at watching ignoramuses who have done minimal homework, if any, bumble their way through fifteen minutes of useless drivel trying to pass off as a review.
This here review restores my trust in the fact that three are still smart, educated and dedicated reviewers out there, of which in my opinion, you are one. You have done a lot of research in the past week as you said you would, and have produced here a masterful account of the strengths and weaknesses of both tablets. This makes this review the best I have experienced in ages. You are truly entitled at the end of such a video to choose the iPad Pro as your tool of choice, as you have given several genuine reasons for making such a choice. In the meantime, you have given the Samsung tablet the respect it deserves, and have done everything within your power to provide prospective tablet buyers of tablets genuine advice to help them with their purchase decisions. I am relishing your thoughtful, balanced offerings. (By the way, only the pens of Surface Pros 1 and 2 are galaxy compatible. From Surface Pro 3 on, Microsoft changed from Wacom to N-trig technology. Also, it is time iPad Pro buyers and reviewers start insisting that Apple include some sort of Apple pencil IN THE BOX)
