Wonderful story, from a man who helped to shape and remodel contemporary music. Many great modern rock guitarists credit Hank Marvin and the Shadows as an important early influence. The iconic and timeless classic Apache changed guitar music in a fundamental manner.
Few realize how young they were and how fantastic they were as musicians; Their songs, Apace, Wonderful Land, Kon Tiki etc etc sound so great even today. That sound will never fail to impress any enthusiast of guitar music.
Bruce Welch later produced some big hits in settings other than the Shadows. Great man.

Before the Beatles! Most forget this and how big the Shadows and Cliff were.

Great interview. The early days I read Hank & Bruce endured hardship. Its in Bruce's autobiography of 1989. Rock n Roll I gave you the best years of my life.

I interviewed Hank many moons ago, during which he told me that Cliff imported his red Strat - apparently the first in England.

Very interesting and enjoyable video. I've just come across what I was actually looking for was could Bruce Welsh play lead? and did he ever play lead call lead in the Shadows on his own bands? do you know please?
For example, I had no idea how good a guitarist Joe Brown was. I just said it was great fun and sank and strummed a guitar all but I was wrong. he was brilliant

By the way the stage for the 2 Eyes Coffee bar was in a basement and that was about the size of the living room in my flat.
