There's something inexplicably great about Brian's understated fame. So many people know his music (largely through sampling) but they don't know the guy or anything about him. He's like the ultimate sleeper composer.
Brian Bennett is one of the Worlds greatest drummers of all time. And he is such a great and gentle human. He is a legend, and a rare musician. Is also a great composer, arranger and conductor.
❤always followed the shads and the legend called Brian Bennett is the greatest drummer ever in my personal opinion . 74 this year and still play the shadows music every day. In the words of the great late Tina Turner, brian, your ' simply the best "
He came to Iceland with the Shadows on their final tour around '84-'85 and gave us the greatest drum solo ever done in Iceland. Thank you Brian! we love you!.
Excellent video! Thanks for posting this,I have met Brian and the rest of the Shadows several times, and they have always been great characters with their fans. Brian took my Son onto the stage, when he was only about 9 years old,and a budding Brian Bennett, after the sound check at Newcastle City Hall, during the "Twenty Golden Greats" tour, and let him sit at a six-thousand-pounds kit, then said to my Son..."Go on,Darren, have a bit bash about..!" My Son was so overwhelmed with excitement, and feared he might knock a cymbal stand over or summik daft like that with nerves,he just did a bit of a mammy-daddy,and a crash or two.All the Roadies and lighting and sound Techs were in the front two rows coffee'ing -on,and gave my young kid a big applause, while I was trying to get photo's with one hand, cos the other arm was in a sling, plastered up to the elbow after a bad accident deep underground in a coal mine. Brian showed heaps of affection and patience towards my Son and Myself, and I will never forget that day....in 1977.... Darren is now a Record Producer in London, and still plays drums on sessions as well as recording and producing. We owe a lot to Brian for his advice and affectionate nature,as he is seen here to be displaying with natural ease...he has never changed!! It's a free world....[or so I learn't when I was a kid!],and everybody has their own opinions, but I can't understand why some people have a thumbs down? Why not just leave the site if it's not your cup of tea....you obviously don't know the man or his much - varied musical talents!!
Just come across this interview, seen The Shadows on concert number of times Brian's solo is something else. A lovely man and THE best drummer /musician there is. Brian Bennett a legend❤
Brian`s story is an insiders history of the British music industry from 1956 onwards . Everything from Wee Willie Harris to the London Symphony Orchestra , not to mention Cliff and The Shadows who probably kick started the whole beat group revolution .
I was always in awe of Brian's impeccable timing, most especially so on Chatanooga Choo Choo and In The Mood from my favourite album "Dance With The Shadows". And I had no idea at all that Brian is a very successful composer. What a terrific story.
I have just gotten introduced to this great musician through the instrumental version of the retro-exploitation film soundtrack called "Black Dynamite". His music is called Library Music and I am hooked on it big-time. Brian Bennett is legendary!!!
Every time im in the beautiful village of Carlingford in Ireland i visit the grave of the great Tony Meehan , he brought the drums to the forefront with "See You in my Drums , ...then along came B B , and donethe same .Little B , Big B, Still the Best, Great Interview.
I've just stumbled onto Face to Face and thoroughly enjoy it. Wakeman is a great interviewer, he actually listens, allows the occasional sidestep, but always gets back on the track.
They used to have interviews with Brian May and Tony Iommi- the one with Tony Iommi was great …I recorded it on a voice recorder, but it’s been off,TH-cam for years
The Shadows came to Iceland on their final tour 2004-5 and Brian gave us the greatest drum solo ever heard in Iceland, Cliff came approximately two years later and said to the media "Oh I didn't know they were here "would have been with them if I knew they came. Thanks to all of them !!!.
Rick thank you you do some marvelous interviews. You let the subject recollect their experiences. I have watched Bruce Welch Brian Bennett [ my hero I have aspired to be a drummer ever since The Shadows brought out Apache in 1960. here I am now 75 going to 76 living on a farm retired but keeping a herd of alpacas but with a big shed that houses all my drums and musical instruments. Play Shadows music on TH-cam channeled to my Shed TV and speakers and play drums to them. What satisfaction my nearest neighbour is 4 KG somehow my wife reckons the village at 7Kg can hear me and the music. Thank you again look forward to the next chapter of Shadows interview. Cheers 2023 for posterity.
Fascinating and insightful interview, so interesting to hear about the different routes Brian's career took. Also have to say what a great interviewer Rick Wakeman. Great watch/listen.
Great interview.I am in Canada and am familiar with The Shadows but I have never heard Brian Bennett talk. Nice guy and Rick Wakeman got a lot of good information from him.
One of the things I noticed when I played in London in the sixties , was that most successful players wanted to be something else . Listening to BB confirmed my suspicions . Great interviews . Very informative.
Brian’s mother was the receptionist at my dentist’s office on Kingsland Road near Dalston. And every time I had an appointment she would say, “Oh, Ursula if only you had a phone, Cliff came for dinner last night, and I would have invited you, but there was no way to get in touch with you.” 🥴 She was the nicest woman!
Doubt if you'll read this Brian but man, you are a legend and are my inspiration in music. Seriously, if you ever get to Western Australia in your travels PLEASE let me know - Pete
It's amazing that Brian wanted to do session work at a time when Britain had Bobby Graham, who was the U.K.'s answer to Hal Blaine (the Wrecking Crew). It's surprising that he didn't mention Bobby Graham actually, although he did mention Big Jim Sullivan, Marty Wilde's lead guitarist. Sullivan was a session musician with Bobby Graham and a very young pre Zep Jimmy Paige.
I find it weired that the legendary Brian Bennett, the drummer of the greatest instrumental band of the world, the Shadows, is constantly down playing his role in as a member of the great band, and talking most of the time of the interview about his solo career as a composer of serials and side projects that most people outside England have never heard of. He sounds down right embaressed to have been a member of the Shadows.
Warren is 36 days older than I am. Maybe someday he can come to America for his birthday. After all every Englishman should see a parade on his birthday.
Sorry?...er.....where have you been......???!!!!!!!! THIS is Brian Bennet!....didn't you listen to his stories?....and the Muso's he has worked with?? Now!!....who are you ?!!
@@highpitwilma he probably uses a computer generated drum track for his "basement blues". Have pity! Wouldn't know a genuine drummer it he fell over one.

Excellent Drummer the best in the world absolutely love the Shadows
I have been a fan since the early sixties. Amazing memory, -great story teller.

If there was a way to thank Brian for all the services rendered, I would like to do just that. What a cracking interview. I really enjoyed that.

Great interview and thanks so much to both Rick and Brian. I have seen The Shadows here in Australia many times and they never ever let me down!
Fantastic. I could listen to these sort of legends all night.

these interviews are fabulous, wish there was more !
Best drummer ever. Never received the credit he deserved
Wishy, Washy, Noshy and Poshy, 😅😅😅😅😅. God how I wish I'd seen that.
a beautiful personality and a beautiful story. Juice, composure, wonderful.

This is dope. This man is one of the last greats left from that era of Library music.
what was the era of libary music ?
@@meezanlmt Check out KPM library music on youtube . Names to look out for ....Keith Mansfield, Alan Hawkshaw.

What a great memory this man has, on top of his musical talent. 🙂
Again, a very interesting and informative interview. Rick Wakeman is a "master-class" in interview technique. Well done..!! ;-)
hi Bruce you are the most amazing drummer love your personality
What a brilliant and beautiful interview. Two absolute icons.
First gig I ever went to, Oxford Apollo 1981, I was 11 years old, Cliff and Sue Barker sat a few seats away but what I remember most was Brians solo
I find these interviews are a fascinating insight into the early days of distinctive music for young folk to identify with. I was one of them.
Fantastic thank you so much. The shadows were such a big part of my growing up
Greatest drum solo i've ever heard was in Iceland on their final tour in 2004 by Brian Bennet !
Brian Bennett talking about library music and KPM Music at 34:12 -->
Mikko Niemelä thanks bro ✌

Great intervieuw, and what a photographic memory the man owns.
Rugby special ! All my adult life i wondered who the composer of that piece was. Wonderful !!
Lord Rockingham's 11.
When I was young my dad brought us a wind up gramphone plaer and the only record we had was Hoots Mon!
It was great
A fascinating story, a real episode of history. Such a nice guy.
Brian bennet comes across as a real nice person and his career in music was wonderful
Brian Bennett is up there with ginger baker and Keith moon as the greatest drummers all time in music
Would that include Sandy Nelson and Gene Krupa? Don't forget a plethora of extremely talented "skin hitters" allover the globe.
Hou forget Neil Peart!
You are right, except ge is much better than the the other guys you mention.
Seen plenty drummers on youtube miles better than these guys ,better than Buddy Rich too.Just because they are famous don't make them the best.
Great... Thanks for posting!
Regards
joel
Great program.

More than just a drummer..
I love these down to earth stories - "you didn't tell me you were the drummer with The Shadows?!"
Brian Bennett of KPM and Bruton music fame! One of the best library music composers ever.
Fantastic, truly fantastic 🔥❤️🔥
I love the man,he and Tony Meehan are the greatest full stop
What a great interview
Great drummer in shadows
Superb!
Brilliant drummer who doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
Jerry Allison had what I call 'rolling drums' e.g. Peggie Sue and Brian, 'shuffling drums' e.g Foot Tapper.

It's up now. At least for now. It was up once before and then gone. So, if you haven't seen it, search for it quickly before it disappears again.
