    This is absolutely great advice Marta. You were also quite thorough. I just wanted to share in my experience when I start to price I start with a base price by card size and start to add as the complexity increases so if it has a special fold I add a half dollar, or if it is a shaker that is another quarter, if it has embellishments that adds another something and so on..... thank you for sharing your knowledge, it is always enlightening and feels nice to hear and learn from others' experiences.

    Lots of great advice! I also made a trip to the local Hallmark/card store in my neighborhood. Seeing what they charge for mass-produced cards (easily $6 or $7 and up) made me realize I could charge more than I originally thought.

    Thank you Marta so much for this advice on selling your crafts. I’m a seamstress & have no problem with pricing my work but, when it comes to my journals I’m not sure. I also agree with Michele Sommer below who commented about family , friends etc who also tell me I should sell my journals. I’ve been asked the price & not sure what should be the price for them. After this helpful video I must take a chance. TFS SO MUCH INFORMATION 🤗.

  • @bonniekitt1

    I agree with what you say with regards to material and time involved in creating cards. I never sell my cards for what they are actually worth because I would have to sell them for $15 apiece, which I could never get obviously. I sell my cards at the local fine arts Center in Florida for anywhere from $5 to $7 depending on how much time and energy I put into them. This price is comparable to other cards for sale in the Art Center. Because my pricing my cards sell well. I have to take into consideration the 30% that price goes to the Center for foster children of which I am totally delighted. So I have to take a look at my 70%. If I am going to put that much work into something, I will generally turn it into a piece of wall art so that I can charge an appropriate amount of money for it. That is how I figured things out.

    Fantastic advice Marta! I used to make & sell scrapbooks on ebay. That's how I paid for most of my supplies. I personally didn't charge for my time because I just loved the creative process, but I can see how people would want to charge for their time. Back when I sold it was before etsy was popular, but I did make a good amount of money & had people requesting other items from me which is an amazing feeling. It's a lot to think about, but I think it's worth it. You never forget your 1st sale either. I would make at least $100 per album...I'd buy kits because everything was more affordable the way. It was so much fun & something I'm thinking about doing again just for the fun of it...and maybe a little money to buy goodies for myself. Thank you for your knowledge on this. It's always appreciated! Xoxo 💖

    Your advice is very informative. When you mentioned factoring in the price of a table it really made me think back. That is one reason I haven't tried selling in this way. I always wonder if I will sell enough to cover that cost. I have five shoe boxes of cards so I definitely have enough cards to sell, yet I hesitate. I have sold cards to friends and they don't have a problem with how much I charge. Sometimes I think it might be too much, but no one had ever decided not to buy from me.

    I am a consumer first of handmade products and now am also a crafter. A lot of People that make stuff give their stuff away. I bought a handmade card for $3. I would've paid $5 but $3 was her price. I also paid $72 for a pair handmade rose taper candles. And people pay the price for her tapers because their unique and one of a kind. This crafter can charge what she wants her rose candles are in demand. I bought a quilt for $175. I was glad about that one cause my money was low lol. I got it extremely cheap. The art work was amazing. I had to do a double take when she said $175.

    Oh yes pricing card it's a very tricky subject and I am glad you shared your thoughts and expierience .
    They way how I charge for my cards is pretty much same however very rare I have a chance to sell 3 cards at once . Usually is a single card that customer have his own idea about how it suppose to look like ( and those onces I don't like making ) . And they know the price I am charging and still asking would it be a bit cheaper then last time... I enjoy my free way of making them , what colors , what embellishments etc. and when I hear question : would you sell it for less is like breaking my wings and I am loosing currage to do any more 😕 expensive flowers and other embellishments not free and the time put into making card ... as you said Marta it is very tricky subject 👌

If they finish their projects I can't post the final results to FB till after Christmas but of course I'll share with you darling :) As they're going to do different things... and I'm just guessing here.. but I'm pretty sure 1 will definitely be pink and purple with half a tub of glitter and a million jewels! (well she is only 7) Heaven only knows what the other chick will go for... maybe Steampunk ( he's 12 and has been under gran's wicked influence for years hehe!) but it's totally up to them :) We'll see! xxx

    I am planning to make and sell Christmas and also other occasions cards but will start next year. I live here in the Philippines and I know where to buy cheap materials in bulk. Money exchange here today, US dollar $1 is 53.73 Php (Philippine peso). I have been practicing making my own handmade cards and bookmarks but for giveaways or gifts for my friends. I use mostly scraps from old greeting cards I received through the years, I have plenty of them. I cut away and remove the portions with the old handwritings, paste it on a plain card and decorate with stickers, lace, ribbons and sequins. I haven't tried making painted cards yet. Prayers should also be included before starting a business however small it may be, that's the most important. Thank you for sharing your tips and advices. It is really very helpful. God bless you.

Friends and family have been encouraging me to sell my products, mostly mini albums and journals, few cards and other crafty items, however, I haven't yet found the courage to even share my creations on/in Facebook/Groups. Where did you first sell to apart from post office/shop?

    Great video Martha, I sell my cards at a market every month here in Victoria, Australia. It is very tricky to price ones cards and unless it’s a special order my cards sell for $7 each, I’ve tried different prices for different styles of cards but found making all of them one price works for me! For the December market I’ll make Christmas cards lower in price, it’s really trial and error until you find your feet and you are confident and comfortable selling your own cards!
    As you say it’s not easy and all of your advice is really good, especially for those who are thinking about their first markets!

    Thank you. I'm used to selling fine art with the formula Length X Width and I do it in inches. Centimeters are giving me headache though that is the system we use. Anyway then you get a square inch and then you decide how much you want per square inch. Would that be more or less a guideline for the cards too?

    Thank you , I always think I am charging too little for the work put into making the cards but am afraid to overcharge and not sell so its a catch 22 for me. Your video was helpful, thank you

    I have a question. I take pictures of many things. I put them on card stock and make cards. I have no idea how to price them.

  • @shawpaperiekas600
    @shawpaperiekas600 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I price based on the complexity and size of the piece. I have small simple, small complex, large simple, and large complex. And each of those has four sub-levels.

    My cards are really really time consuming to make and i've been selling them for £10 on Etsy. Even then i think that's too low when taking into account how long it takes to make and all the material needed. Once postage is included, my customers are spending on average £14 on my card, that's why I am a bit reluctant to raise prices

    It doesn’t show my comment. I’ll try again. I signed up for and paid for 2craft fairs in the same location for November and December. Now they are telling me they won’t have a craft fair until January and February. I have Christmas cards other Christmas items to sell. What should I do?

      Maybe try to find a different market? I am sure there are some, some school market too.
      Making birthday cards, friendship cards, baby, congratulations etc cards is good as you can sell them all year round 😊🌹❤️🤔

    How many dollars would 5 Euros be?

    • @MaremiSmallArt

      Google euro to dollars and you will have a website that will do the conversion for. You.
      You can do same with all the currencies 👍🌹

    Hej Marta:)
    Super przydatny filmik! Mam do Ciebie małe pytanko. Czy jest szansa na to, że w przyszłość do Twoich filmików pojawią się napisy w języku polskim? Jako tako kumam co mówisz łapie, konteksty :) ale właśnie kumam "jako tako" często mam problem ze zrozumieniem wszytkiego.

    • @MaremiSmallArt
      @MaremiSmallArt  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Witaj kochana. Polskie crafterki nie oglądają moich filmów... Prawie nigdy nie ma polskich komentarzy, więc nie sądzę by pojawily się napisy po polsku... Prędzej po angielsku dla ludzi niesłyszących ❤️💜

    I talked to a woman in a craft store and she told me how to prize the cards. How much it cost for the card making it and then you double it😀 My husband sells card for me in his work and my cards have the same prize about 6$ 😀

    • @MaremiSmallArt
      @MaremiSmallArt  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is indeed correct. It's one of a great ways to price it.
