I am US-born, Nigeria/US raised and I believe the onus should be on us to get our news from a variety of sources and not rely solely on CNN/BBC, etc. Also travel to the continent to see for yourself. It is expensive, but begin saving for 2020 or 2021 and look out for cheap flights and/or package deals to get an idea of cost. For what it's worth, I've seen both complimentary and negative stories about the continent in the media, but having lived and traveled across the continent I have seen its good, bad and ugly. Nigeria is beautiful - TRUE But there is alot of corruption, poverty, crumbling infrastructure, and continued disunity - ALSO TRUE.

Luckily i live in Sandton Johannesburg, but most of my people (Africans) live in harsh conditions all over the continent. Unfortunately I belong to the few privileged, but that shouldn’t be the case.

Africa is so beautiful as somebody whos only ever lived in Canada ive only ever seen africa as one place with a bunch of houses with holes in them made of scrap metal and wood and like i thought all the water was dirty and nobody has clean clothes etc im so glad it isnt like that tho im not trying to be rude tahts just what i was always shown growing up im glad i actually did research tho :)

Instead of building solidarity, we're creating gaps or demarcation ......Our mentality is to move into politics to enjoy and enrich ourselves at the expense of the people...... Our leaders buy arms and ammunition just to use it on us...... How then will the world not call us fools?????..... There's high rate of youth unemployment in Africa and yet we've refused to look for solutions...... It's so unfortunate......70% of Africans living in Africa are living below poverty line..... I don't blame some people who wonder if it's a pity to be an African.....

To be honest, some of these things are more than well-known by us in western coutries. Everybody saw videos and pics about animal wild life there, there was a Soccer World Cup in SA and ancient Relics in Egypt are so iconic that they are overflowed by tourists.

It matters to counter the lies Western media has been propagating concerning Africa for decades. The more the world knows the truth about Africa, the more respect Africans across the globe gets. When Trump said Nigerians need to go back to their mud huts, many uniformed Americans believed him, that Africa is nothing but a jungle full of mud huts. We need to counter that. And also it promotes tourism and investment, which will benefit the continent.

Luckily i live in Sandton Johannesburg, but most of my people (Africans) live in harsh conditions all over the continent.
Unfortunately I belong to the few privileged, but that shouldn’t be the case.
Actually Asia has the most poor people on the planet, has the poorest conditions and the worst slums on the planet, how on earth can you know if developed areas in Africa are rare if you 1. haven't been there 2. haven't even researched??? As someone who's done both, I can tell you modern developed areas in Africa are actually the norm. This is why we call you western people extremely arrogant, because you judge something you've never even researched, which is the absence of common sense.

Africa is so beautiful as somebody whos only ever lived in Canada ive only ever seen africa as one place with a bunch of houses with holes in them made of scrap metal and wood and like i thought all the water was dirty and nobody has clean clothes etc im so glad it isnt like that tho im not trying to be rude tahts just what i was always shown growing up im glad i actually did research tho :)
