Yes , they are far from being anything like human , they are still very much primitive machines.
Even the ones with human ish faces looked like they where stoned😂.
Probably the best ones there where furry dogs , my dear old mum ( rip) had dementia, she would have liked the little dogs.

Melody would be ideal as a housekeeper for elderly people who are disabled. She could vacuum, wash dishes, make beds, etc. She could double as a bodyguard. You could teach her some karate moves. Then she can deal with an intruder.

If you have to look at a robotic face every day, or any other part of it, might as well make it enjoyable to look at. Reminds me of that vid about why female characters in games are more popular.

These robots don't have a chance in competing with Optimus 3 from Tesla. Not only is Optimus more limber and can perform far more complex tasks, it is also certified water proof; submerged completely in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes with any damage. Facial expressions? I loved the Sci-Fi robots of years past despite their lack facial expressions; Robbie, B9, and more recently another favorite the Kaylon Isaac from the Orville. Robots at this show are way over priced too. Optimus 3 will be between $25k to $30k and already programed to be your Butler, Chef, and possibly chauffeur. It can also take care of all the yard work and house cleaning that is required. The first 1000 built this year (2025) will be working in the factory making more of them for everyone else. Just can't wait to buy one. I am so ready for it now.

If they can manufacture these, IMO, would be a sales hit.

    • @glenfoxh
      @glenfoxh วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Concept cars usually look super cool. But we rarely ever see them on the road, if ever. I remember seeing the look of some new sports car, and the front was so fantastic, had the look of the face of an eagle. But when the car did come out, it was changed to not look near as cool as what was first shown it could have looked like.
The other issue is price. If a company was to make something look as stylized, they tend to want a few hundred thousand for it. Something most can't afford, and they know it.

It is 2025. This is our path. Humans are extremely curious by nature. We are in a technological evolution of hopefully bettering our world, not just the human race. A natural step of that evolution is the creation of what we have learned is humanity...in humanoid form. There have been major advances in not only robotics, but AI as well. As they merge, we'll naturally experience growth pains, and that too is part of our path, of growth...and evolution. Unless time stops, it is inevitable. Unavoidable.
So it's coming. Like it or not. It's human nature just as much as those that are against it. Just remember, technology basically always wins.
All that said, creation of an android driven by AI that can fool you might seem far off. Even the best humanoid robots/companions are obviously far from fluid, smooth movement that's not "herky jerky" and honestly visually convincing, but I think in less than 20 years, that will be a reality.
If we make it another 20 years without a SHTF zombie apocalypse situation, or worse, get invaded by aliens... we'll be lucky. I'll be 79 then. I hope I live that long.
    I think.

Whether people will actually desire, use and buy them remains to be seen. I suppose that might be the ultimate in :safe sex: but again customers might prefer the real thing. I don't think it would be like a real relationship. But some company or group of adolescently minded engineers is sure to design such a contraption!

  • @dougrobblee

A very importand and interesting article for our present time:
A WORD ON ROBOTS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI):
    Question:
With the immersion of AIs, should humans trust them as they trust humans?
    Answer:
    A resounding NO!
    “Why?” you ask.
    Answer:
Do you trust all humans equally?
You would think, by the ad campaigns, that humans have always had a new 'high function' and that AIs are "freeing" us to do this higher job [ya, I know, I'm laughing too].
AIs are just humans NEWEST toy and distraction and I guess that answers the question, are we that mentally immature..and that's not a question.
'The most important reason for Asimov's Laws not being applied yet to AIs is how robots/AI are being used in our real world.
"You don't arm a Reaper drone with a Hellfire missile or put a machine gun on a MAARS (Modular Advanced Armed Robotic/AI System) not to cause humans to come to harm.
    That is the very point!"
    No morals or scruples.
    Still trust an AI?
Not to mention the number of people that will be put out of work by robots/AI. Here is just one stat, a little outdated but an indicator, never the less.
How many factory workers are there in the world?
According to a Gitnux blog, employment in manufacturing in 2018 accounted for nearly 13% of the total workforce globally.
This means that around 470 million employees were in the manufacturing industry all over the world.Oct 2, 2023.
So just what are these displaced workers going to do, welfare??
Total annual welfare incomes in 2023 ranged from $8,690 for the unattached single considered employable to $30,395 for the couple with two children. The total welfare income of the unattached single with a disability was $11,648 and that of the single parent with one child was $22,985.
Multiply just $8,690 by 470,000,000 and you can imagine the added strain on your own money via taxation.
For referrences 1 trillion is 1,000,000,000,000.
    Still trust an AI??
    "Intelligence" is the wrong word.
An AI has access to more information that the average human and with its instant recall makes it "helpful" to have around, but to trust a machine that is "born" without out viruses..not to be trusted.
Over 12.7 million U.S. workers were employed in manufacturing in 2022, not to mention the millions of people that will be put out of work world wide.
That's about $4+ 000,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars world wide to be replaced with what, welfare? ( and these figures are a few years old)
    CONSIDER THIS:
Now just what are we trying to do with these robots/AI, are we just playing God...and that's not a question.
It's a machine so make it look the part!
Makers, do not mimic the human body.
Make them with wheels or tracks for better stability instead of those stupid looking "legs".
The only reason to give a robot/AI human features is for sex. Period.
    WHAT IS Asimov's Laws:
    Food for thought:
    ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE:
Isaac Asimov was an American writer and professor of biochemistry at Boston University.
Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics"
    1. An AI may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
    2. An AI must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
    3. An AI must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Also some will say that the 3 Laws are flawed because an AI goes to far with the "what If" scenario but I believe incorporating the law of probability will counterbalance that..
Are Asimov's laws of robotics/AIs incorporated in today's AI?
    From a google search:
I asked Google why the 3 laws are not being used now and this is the answer that I got:
    CONCLUSION:
Humans are using AI’s to inflict damage and death to other humans.
Until these commands are hardwired in each and every AI, humans CANNOT trust an AI.
And when you cannot trust something
WITHOUT SAFE GUARDS IN PLACE, YOU DO NOT USE THEM - BE WARNED.
    ALSO:
These personal AI computers that are coming out now are not to be trusted because without these 3 laws there is NO protection for you and your information you have stored on storage medias; i.e. internal, external, flash drives and especially “clouds”.
INSTALL OR ENGAGE THESE PERSONAL COMPUTER AIs AT YOUR OWN PERIL - BE WARNED
    On Artificial Intelligence
    and I'm paraphrasing Steve Polyak:
Before we work on artificial intelligence, why don't we do something about natural stupidity like learning to develop mentally as we develop physically, and that's not a question...
    On Guard:
Evidence AI is deceiving us and guess what the fastest growing AI does. Elon Musk, Sam Altman.
Is AI already deceiving us? Experts believe so!
Current AI systems, designed to be honest, have developed a troubling skill for deception, from tricking human players in online games of world conquest to hiring humans to solve "prove-you're-not-a-robot/AI" tests, a team of scientists recently argued in the open-source data science journal Patterns.May 13, 2024

Park, a postdoctoral fellow in AI existential safety at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and researchers have found that many popular AI systems - even those designed to be honest and useful digital companions - are already capable of deceiving humans, which could have huge consequences for society.May 23, 2024

AI has already become very good at hiding its intentions.
