- Sonic CD is the obscure classic sonic game in the series but the boss battle with Metal Sonic is the best boss in the entire series.

We need more death races with Metal Sonic. He was literally created to challenge Sonic's speed and we don't get enough of that from him.

Metal sonic: "nah bro lost lmao 💀"
Sonic: "ah shi-"
I totally agree, that's why I've played it for over 25 hours on steam.
I love that part in his song that a thing says: "Hue hue hue"
It's someone saying "Hey" heavily distorted.
Hopefully the Sonic 4 movie brings justice to Metal Sonic
@@gaminganimators7000 let’s hope lmao
I honestly hate what they did to metal sonic (take generations for example) they pretty much turned him into a glorified badnik
But the thing is, what exactly are they supposed to do with him? Especially for Sonic Generations, where he's nothing more than a bossfight. I get it, he's no longer a massive threat, but you can't expect him to stay at such status when Eggman is right there, plus the other eldritch abominations Sonic fights.
Generations was okay but forces did metal DIRTY!
it could be worse
He could be forgotten about like mecha sonic
@@sikosonix901in my opinion, making him sentient due to the fact eggman technically destroyed him in CD and turning on him alongside mecha sonic would make a great plot for a mania 2 game
@@ThaProd1gy
That's kind of already been done though lol, Sonic Heroes. Gains sentience, absorbs bits of Chaos and gets data from Chaos (headcanon this is why he's playable in A1 even if it's a fun bonus... he is still in the test tubes of A1 if you never get that unlocked, while in A2 he also is a playable character albiet to a lesser degree only in Battle mode), from Froggy, Chocola, he imprisoned his creator, gains data on teh ultimate life form to the point he can use chaos control better than Sonic or Shadow. People forget Neo Metal.
Would be a cool reason for Mecha Sonic MK2's return though. Still would be cool for Metal Sonic to return, honestly could kind of see it, Metal and Mecha recruited by the Hardboiled Heavy King whose still alive (if you got the true ending of encore), they use the phnatom ruby to convert other generic badnicks into metal renditions like that Roller in Mirage Salloon is turned into a Metal Mighty. Could be the inception of the Tails Doll and Metal Knuckles too via this, placing Sonic R in the timeline, man would I want that, too bad Sega killed the possibility for Mania sequels.
Which is particularly ridiculous. They're clearly bringing him back for nostalgia value, more than anything, hasn't actually been a character in ages... So why not use Mecha, Rocket, or Silver? Still get that nostalgia value, and they didn't really have identities to start.
Can we also talk about how FANTASTIC is the soundtrack on japanese release? Everyone on the studio was COOKING 🔥
YES AND METAL SONICS BOSS THEME JUST SLAPS 🔥🔥🔥
Whenever I play it, I try to never get the good future in every zone, because the bad future music in act 3 is always better.
USA version was way better
@@BikotoCHisn't that just the zones music tho?
@@TheSonicFan4ha ha ha, no, once you play with the JP soundtrack, the US soundtrack sounds horrible, I tried to play CD on the US soundtrack, and man, it sucked, it was much later that I almost did it completely, and it’s an almost because I decided to play Stardust Speedway, Quartz Quadrant and Metallic Madness in the JP soundtrack, I wasn’t going to let the US version ruin me such masterpieces of zones and soundtrack
Huh neat:dorky sonic
You don't test your strength, you test who the REAL Sonic is
Metal Sonic is my favorite character in the series and that boss was so unique kind of like how unique Metal Sonic is in the Robotnik army because he is programmed to be almost exactly the same as Sonic
Underrated as hell. Let him cook🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯
Also I think cd is the best classic game
Thank you! And same!! I really enjoy CD more now
“Time to get down to the real fight, the last Sonic standing will be the winner!”
Who's here after watched Sonic Movie 3?
bro really foreshadowed sonic superstars
Metal sonic is such a good boss, because rather than testing strength, he tests speed, Sonic’s signature ability.
I do like the idea of an intense race in a Sonic game, and I think it was fairly well executed here. I think that the Metal Sonic level in CD needs a bit more polish to make it flow a little better. I do think the critique of some of the classic Sonic bosses is a little unfair, because when executed correctly, even though you are only smacking the boss, it takes some platforming and timing skill to beat the boss quickly.
Metal Sonic is one of my favorite Sonic villains and his race to prove he's superior is a genius move.
The music: PEAK
The boss itself: PEAK
The actual “fight”: PEAK
Down sides: ONLY GET TO RACE HIM ONCE IN THE GAME
The biggest disaster was only getting to race him once 😔
It's amazong how we can enjoy your recreations even when we know is not accurate at all. Keep going!
Haven't played it myself, but this strikes me as the ideal format for "rival" battles in Sonic games and I'm suprised by how rare they are.
Sonic cd is the best original (16 bit 2D) sonic game.
And the race against metal sonic is great!!
I loved how the bosses are part of the stage theam.
How much crack were they on when making Wacky Workbench though?
Bro metal should get the same love as sonic metal has died over and over to keep you satisfied
I really love Metal Sonic's presentation in the game. He kidnaps Amy, his holograms exist all throughout the past to terrorize and subjugate little planet's animals and when you think you're getting a good future, he shows up to stop you at Stardust speedway in a creative boss fight. CD is a creative game in general but they did really well with presentation despite the Sega CD's system limitations
I first played this game at a friends house back in the 90s, he knew i was a mega Sonic fan but i couldn't get the Sega CD. His house had it so i remember buying a copy of the game for a system i didn't own. I was so hooked on this game, so i also got the PC versions and any other version over the years. OG fans still talk about what was the best OST, but i love them both, i was happy that localization gave fans multiple tracks to enjoy. The introduction of Metal Sonics race was awesome, i remember dying in that fight alot and got upset when i got the bad ending because i didn't save the past.
personally when I first played CD (the 2013 remake) I got stuck on the second boss because i didn't know where do I have to go. After that however it was all the matter of skill
I adore metal doing the sassy finger wave
“These boss battles have to be an absolute blast to play”
Enter Collision Chaos:
Metal sonic was the first rival to define that concept and akechi from persona 5 redefines that idea that shows us what kind of role that someone like Akechi have in a story that can be meaningful
I wanna see Metal Sonic being a badass as the comics and game in movie 4, can't wait it
Honesty the Metal Sonic boss battle was probably one of the few things I enjoyed about Sonic CD
I will always remember sonic cd because it got put on app stores when I was young
As a #1 Metal Sonic fan, I love everything there is to him, including his brother Mecha Sonic!❤
Would be better if they didn't add random spikes and shit in my way after just gaining speed
Metal Sonic is my favorite character from all the games he appears in
Him: You'll be doomed to get a game over
The life that respawns every time you die: Nah, I'd win
@allainosman2989 fr fr
It’s a really unique fight because most boss fights test your strength or intelligence, metal sonic however tests you in speed, your strong suit, he actively challenges your strongest skill
Lol I actually was playing CD after a while earlier today
The first fight with Infinite is a master class in doing bad boss battles right, change my mind
Metal Sonic’s boss battle, or should I say boss race, is kinda fun actually. It’s a cool test of reflexes and muscle memory.
Sonic Mania/ Sonic Mania Plus: *crying miserably in a metal chair*
" this boss is a test of skill. If you won't beat him, you won't beat him
this was my first sonic game. Metal sonic instilled fear in my childhood self and many other games never lived up to that properly that i was able to get ahold of but i feel like the last few iterations ofh im have been doing it properly.
I Agree I'm The Best
He is the coolest
You're the ultimate overlord metal sonic you're the real sonic
@@adrianacocuysanchez9398 Thanks
Yes you are
Not you neo, the original. Also I am not sonic so please leave me alone...
When I was a little kid, this boss felt impossible but after trying again and again and again, I finally beat him
Now I struggle to lose.
Love to bring back a good foot race with Metal again, but with more intricate level designs reflecting the animations.
some people in the fandom thought I was weird for having Sonic CD as my favorite Classic Sonic game 😂 and ngl it was the only one I played fully without having to drop the game for something more fun, because it is already a fun game in itself. Sure, some levels tend to be tedious (Wacky Workbench intensifies) but the amazing JP soundtrack overrides the frustration I had. It's not a game where you just speed through everything, except when you have to travel to the past or future and the battle with Metal Sonic. It's also the game where two of my favorite characters, Amy and Metal Sonic, got introduced so I have a bit of bias lmao
Idk I haven't got to it yet
If you pose it you will see the bombastic side eye
aka: ONE OF THE GOATED GAMES!!! (especially the soundtrack)
I remember grinding for the Heavy Metal achievement! That took me like an hour lol
Rubber, Steel, and Fire Burn!
Now it’s my turn
You think that you are the best
We’ll put that to test!
You think you can outrun me?
Let’s test your speed!
I LOVED IT SO MUCH, it changed my perspective on sonic games in a huge way though.
As a hardcore Sonic fan it feels wild to hear Sonic CD get called obscure, even though I had no clue it existed two years ago lmao
@@polisvarian9974 same ngl
Idk why but the title had me tweaking
Sonic CD was my first sonic game and will always be my favorite because of stardust speedway and metal sonic!
even tho metal sonic isn't my favourite sonic robot, i gotta admit his race was very fun and cool. plus i think it makes sense, the other sonic robots
(the mechas) were heavy class and designed to destroy sonic, metal on the other hand is a light class so he is meant to beat sonic in speed not strength, that's why he gets killed by a literal machine door...
Mecha has a jet too so you could say he's supposed to be the best in both regards (also was most inteligent in the classic era)
To be fair metal doesnt even use all of his speed when he gets close to the wall (that yellow drive move) and nothing happends to sonic when you reach the door. He's just that weak in durability
@@knuckson8304 yeah but did you seriously say metal sonic is the smartest in the classic era? mecha MK2 can literally operate eggman's machinery, use chaos energy and don't get me started on scrapnik island like this guy had the intelligence to be able to swap his and sonic's minds (he didn't but he would have) metal sonic on the other hand he's just average but still he's no where near as smart as mecha MK2
@@some_body_else3636 i said mecha was not metal so I dunno what u read
@@knuckson8304 oh shit, man i think im dyslexic sorry about that
@@some_body_else3636 I don’t know about the Classic Era, but Neo Metal Sonic outsmarted Eggman and ruled his empire for an entire game. That’s a better feat of intelligence than anything Mecha Sonic ever done.
Shaaba’s hair looks great today.
Yep he got it right the fang boss fight in sonic superstars make me rage for the rest of the game
The only reason I had to legitimately play Sonic CD was the race against Metal Sonic
Fun fact there's a Race clip you missed in the beginning if you pause as you teter you can clip to the end.
I know what you mean. I was very satisfied when I beat Metal Sonic and that wasn't the first time I beat him either. The first time was Sonic Forces.
Also his voicelines in some games the writing is fire sometime
Younger me was suffering at some of the rubber-banding this race had, but I blame that on me sucking at the mobile controls.
That’s hella valid bro the mobile controls cooked me too back then lmao
One of the many reasons CD is still my favorite classic game even after Mania, and why Metal Sonic is one of my favorites next to Sonic himself, and now Mighty.
Soundtracks too are awesome, both of them, I know people like to rag on the US, but they got some slapping songs too, especially Tidal Tempest and Quarts Quadrants.
Even if he's only ever had 2 key roles, in CD and Heroes, a lot can be said for this robot boy with no voice. Also the 1st time Sonic ever had a voice was in CD.
it helps that metal sonics design is just so col
Not to mention the music is FIRE🔥
im i the only one hearing hue hue hue in stardust speedway
Metal at the end:skill isue tbh.
There was a another race in sonic cd where eggman will chase you with a bike bot it was scrapped because it was the boss of the lost level Dubious dephts (r2)
Honestly metels boss fight was amazing and its sad that time traval came back only once in mania (also the game i grew up with an was a blast metels fight was pain but love the character ) i hope this exact race with new level design comes back with metel sonic
Sonic Mania Plus must be your soup then!
Just finished it and I love everything about it!
Metal Sonics Theme slaps even harder!
Sonic CD will forever be my favourite Sonic game, especially with the JP soundtrack
A good boss fight needs a good challenge. Not too hard yet not too easy.
Btw I beat this like an hour before I saw this short on my fyp
Imo Metal Sonic boss fight is annoying, bad and don't feel speed but only because spikes and, more important, it's dumb placement (Metal Sonic Atacks would be enough).
Metal sonic's race is goated
It was my favorite game for decades
When it starts its good including the music but the finish line gets me no cap 🧢 the spikes kills me and Eggman whoops my ass😢I absolutely hate this finish line!
Bro, cd was released after Sonic 2
Soinc the hedgehog 2 release dates: November 21st 1992 and November 24th 1992
Sonic cd release dates: September 23rd 1993, October 1993, and November 1993
I'm sorry if this sounds like an "erm actually ☝️🤓" comment i just wanted to correct something you got wrong
Oh yeah no you're actually correct lmao
I don't remember what I was thinking when writing the script but that just flew over my head lmao
@@BikotoCH but you're right that boss fights that test your skill are really good but I can enjoy fights that don't fall into that category probably because I'm kinda easy to please
I haven't played Sonic CD very much. I didn't have a Sega CD as well even back in the '90s I wasn't even aware of it. I was aware of Sonic CD thanks to some extra content on Sonic Mega Collection for the GameCube. I did play a brief demo of Sonic CD on my phone I forget when it was like maybe 10 years ago I'm not sure. I finally played through the whole game as Knuckles thanks to Sonic Origins Plus.
Honestly that’s the same way for me haha. Mega collection was how I ever figured out about Sonic CD!
I’m gonna be honest Sonic CD is among one of the most underrated Sonic games. But the most underrated which is secretly a lot of fun has to be Knuckles Chaotix
I remember it took me 10 tries just to beat Metal as a kid because I was relatively new to sonic and more sided in sonic 4 physics back then 💀

I agree with you about metal sonic and his race in sonic cd.
An example of a bad boss fight is the boss in mirage saloon act 1 in sonic mania
"Same year" Sonic 2 was released in 1992 while Sonic CD was released in 1993.
@@Pig3on471 don’t worry it’s bait. Next long from video is Sonic CD the times will be correct lmao
Much as I love CD, and Metal as a character, he feels kinda one-note in that game. Unless you're going for the holograms, which I don't think you even need for the good ending, you'll only see him twice. If I was designing Sonic CD, I would've had him be the boss at the end of each zone, it'd still be the same fights, but now metal is the one fighting, rather than robotnik. That way, he feels more like an actual advisory, who challenges you at every turn. Rather than some speed bump near the end of the game.
While I agree making any improvements to the bosses we have is good, making metal sonic the boss in every zone seems redundant. Remember robotnik is the main cause of the future being a wasteland, having metal sonic appear every zone would take away his mystique. People’s problem with metal sonic is that he looses too much, created to basically be a punching bag having him loose 8 times to sonic would have ruined the character for people before they even got to know him.
@@thebrickbros.1294 I see where you're coming from, but in CD specifically, rather than across the franchise, my problem with Metal is how rarely you see him, despite him being the big new threat on every cover of the game. It'd be like if Sonic 3 only had knuckles in hidden palace, and fighting you in special stages, and literally nowhere else.
I think the best comparison is NSMB(DS) where you fight Bowser Junior at the end of each world, and from what I've seen, people find the final BJR fight more rewarding than Bowser's one, since you finally able to put a true stop to this force that's been foiling you throughout the game. Kinda like Knuckles' team-up scene in Sonic 3.
@@Potatoboii2 well, knuckles had a better approach to this problem. I don’t think making every boss the metal sonic like they did with bowser jr. But instead doing what they did with knuckles and have him show up at the end of the stage to transition you to the next zone. And or do what they did for the sonic triple trouble 16 bit fan project where metal sonic wasn’t every boss, but he was at least more than one. Like he was a boss for 2 zones and the final fight, doing something like that is probably more of what you want
@@thebrickbros.1294 Yeah, I just think he should've shown up a bit more, and NSMB was the first game I thought of. I still think that format could work though, since Metal hiding away and screwing with Sonic is kinda out of character. If he gets the opportunity to fight Sonic, he'd take it.
@@Potatoboii2 I get it, but the reason they made all the bosses unique was to stand out against Mario. While it was always robotnik. After sonic one he started using a variety of different robots. And in sonic 3 every boss fight felt unique. And even when it wasn’t it felt different and that was exactly what they were trying to do. Every Mario boss is the same no matter the concept, jump on their heads 3 times, then they actually get creative in the final boss. But for sonic, there are bosses where you need to hit him and he goes down. or others, where the boss is the terrain around you and you just need to survive like labyrinths boss. Or where you use the seesaws to throw either a spiked ball or yourself at him. They still found ways to be creative with the boss fights. And taking after Mario for bosses would ruin what they to specifically avoid doing.
Sonic CD IS my favorite sonic game and the first one I ever owned on Windows 95

metal sonic is a great character and easily their boss fight is the peak of the game, and isn’t even close.
it’s a shame i really dont enjoy CD much otherwise.
Imagine flashing an unwarned final boss from a recent game

I think therewas gonna be another one of those bosses where u race them it was the scraped boss in a level the level was going to be in between palm tree panic and chaos collision
