We've just come back from a holiday in New Zealand and had the pleasure of visiting Hayes Hardware in Invercargil where they have an awesome display of motorcycles and vehicles, chief among them is Bert's original bike and some of the movie prop bikes! Great to see the history being retained and displayed for all to see.
You visited the best parts of NZ, the Burt Munro challenge run is in February, the Friday is beach racing and hill climb, Saturday is circuit track racing and Sunday is the Wyndham street races. As they say “It’s one Hell of a Weekend!”
One guy proved the arrogant industry of his time, that everything is possible with some passion. Thank you WeirdBike for the memory of two wheelshistory and being, by your side, one of them.
Genius! I mentioned this before after your video on Kim Newcombe, but New Zealand seem to produce more than their fair share of maverick, talented engineers.
He lived there and brought back the 26 scout frame from there when he returned to live here. That is why there are two indians and one engine in his life time. The Haynes bike down in Invercargill is the 26 frame and the 20 frame is still in the states. The real trailer that lost the wheel depicted in the movie is here in Christchurch NZ too.
R.I.P Burt .....you are the fastest Indian - man & machine .
Not just a guy, a legend! Movies were made about him.
Rip Burt, you are a fuck'n legend,

Incredible, between him and John Moses Browning, what those 2 men accomplished, is unbelievable!
Two New Zealanders with passion
Burt Munro , John Britton
Both from the South Island
2:09 To my knowledge , Munro never raced in Australia or even visited the country.
He raced in New Zealand and Utah , USA
He sure did he lived there for a few years

I saw the bike when I was in NZ, an impressive achievement.
2:09 I thought he lived in New Zealand, not Australia, therefore I would have thought New Zealand would be where he raced.
He travelled across to Australia to race at differant point in time. His racing career forty plus years long.
RIDE IN PEACE Burt. ❤
How a mere mortal became one of the Gods of Speed.
Salute ✌🏻
