Note to viewers: I originally recorded this video prior to some recent developments where the government has tried to clarify the nature of the agreement and reassure the autonomous communities, which has resulted in ERC threatening to withdraw its support in the Generalitat for the PSC. Interesting times for sure… in any case, just something to keep in mind when watching. Let me know your thoughts in any case!

This system is to end Spain as a country in tax sense. Taxes are not paid by terrtorys but people, so because Catalonia is reacher than average, by this system every euro paid by the catalonians will have more payback in term of social services than every euro paid in any other region from general system, richer or poorer than Catalonia. It is just an unfair privilege.

Fantastic video! I apreciate a lot the objectiveness. I'm from Catalonia, and here everything is so subjective. So mich that I actually prefer to get my politics information from english talking sources.
    Thanks.

ERC has some control to help Salvador Illa but if ERC does not like something PSC will seek the help of Junts per Catalunya, which already were who made to fall over the 2024 ERC budget in Catalunya.
The lever of ERC to make PSOE to undergo the agreement is in the Congreso de Diputados and the thread will be to vote in the Congreso with PP and Vox to disturb Pedro Sánchez (as JxCat did some days ago with the 2025 spending ceiling). 😅
(It's easy JxCat and PSOE get an agreement because the electorate of JxCat is in the same place or lefter than PSOE's one, according to surveys; but in the national axis they are in different sides, since PSC lost, threw out, all the not-anti-catalanist leaders. So the support of ERC to PSC of Pasqual Maragall, brother of Ernest Maragall, now in ERC, would not be possible nowadays).

Giving the Catalan government fiscal independence is like giving the fox control over the chicken coop.

Great work! It’s impressive that an English-speaking channel can talk about this topic in a more clear and calm way than most of the local media. With that being said, I think you are taking way too many steps ahead by assuming this will actually take place. As a Catalan I wish it did, but the terms of the agreement are vague enough so that everything ends up with a couple fancy name changes that don’t truly make any practical change as drastic as the ones you envision. I hope I’m wrong, but I feel that just as with the approval of Catalan as an official EU language or with the transfer of the railway competences we are getting PSOE’d again.

@@llucbusquets6266 thanks for your kind words Lluc! I agree, I guess it may not materialise, especially given the back and forth between PSOE and ERC following Montero’s comments the other day. And the wording does seem to be quite vague, which has perhaps given way to this dispute between the two parties. It’s interesting nevertheless to think about what it might look like in practice. Thanks for watching!
