Good work man I'm thinking of doing the same I'm surprised when you did the sway bar drop links and the coilovers you didn't do an eibach or tarret sway bar or something like that. Or have you.
Kevin, Very much enjoy watching your channel. I am waiting for new front struts to arrive. Any helpful Hints to remove and replace front struts without disassembling more than I have to? PS I grew up at Fort Devens back in the late 70's off route 2A
Hi Mike, I've got a Buddy who was stationed at Devens when he was in the guard. Still lives up that way in Fitchburg and commutes to Boston for work. As far as a tip I've seen some vids where people have just removed the nut while there was a load on the suspension a slowly raised the car to replace strut tops and such. I not a big fan of that, if the spring gets away from the car that would be a very bad day. Thats the really only short cut you can do but I wouldn't too dangerous. I would do it the way I do it, just make sure to soak the bolts in PB Blaster or similar. Especially the caliper bolts on the back side you can see the tip of the bolt make sure you get some there. Sorry I'm not much more help..
@@KevinsEuropeanGarage No worries, I'll figure it out one way or another. Not about to let an over engineered German car get the best of me. Actually graduated from Ayer High School before My dad was stationed to West Berlin in 1980. Miss New England, don't miss getting up early and shoveling the walk :)
Thanks for watching! Should be the same in the rear the front will look slightly different the gt3 if I remember right has a different knuckle compared to the C2.
I actually got the bolt out without destroying the threads I let it soak for a few days until my time sert kit showed up. The length of the one I got was 16.2 mm. Thanks for watching.
Nice video! I have a 2002 996 myself and am in a similar situation. I replaced control arms, tie rods, took my wheels to get repaired since they were a smidge out of round. I still had a shake and was informed I need new shocks. I was thinking about getting feal coilovers as well. I’m wondering if all this issue it’s a steering rack… I have a slight shake at the steering wheel that really bothers me at about 70 mph.
I don’t necessarily think that you need shocks. If they are showing signs of leaking and if the car is bouncing then yes. The steering should be tight, the inner/outer tie rods should be tight. I would check those. Also overlooked are hubs and rotors. Check them for rust. Sometimes rust builds up and the rotor won’t sit right. Then the rim won’t be true to the hub and that can cause vibrations.
Hi from the UK 🇬🇧 Kevin - question > How did you mount the brake electric cable on the front struts? Just installing coil overs to my 2003 C2 Manual and will need a mount / bracket (Ohlins comes with a handy bracket but not these ones). Thanks for all the videos / content - you’ve made lots of the DIY jobs so much easier 🏁👌🏽
Thanks for watching from across the pond. Unfortunately its been zip ties that been holding it. I don't have anything better at this time but it does work. I just replace them every so often.
I wonder if they would entertain a group buy. I took the car for a couple long drives before the snow hit Boston and it is amazing how a set of coilovers can really transform the car for the better. Steering response has improved greatly. The car is more flat going around turns that I was taking turns a good 10mph faster than before without stressing the car. Even the clutch response was improved, there is less weight transfer in the body from a stop. Definitely worth it and I don’t feel and compromise in comfort compared to the eibach springs. I have yet to really play with the setting. It’s still just at the middle 15. The only thing I wish I got was the extenders for the adjustment knobs
Say in the rear you want to make an adjustment to the shock you would have to remove the cover. With the extender you don’t have to do that. It’s a knob attached to a flexible line that screws onto the shock. You could make adjustment with having to remove anything
Great video Kevin! I'm convinced on going with the Feal coilovers. I've read that some guys are installing front adjustable drop links and rear adjustable toe links. Did you have any issues with the stock links after lowering the car? I also want to lower the stance, but not too much. Adding the adjustable links adds considerable cost to the mod. Thanks.
I didn’t have any issues with clearance or anything like that. Ideally the sway bars should be horizontal where it mounts to the body and where it mounts to the links. When you lower the car that isn’t really the case. You could buy the links and adjust it so it is horizontal again. Is it necessary I don’t think so. I’ve never done a before and after to truly know the effects of it. But for street driving I don’t think it really makes a huge different. I also didn’t lower my too low. You could go much lower maybe then people have issues. Thanks for watching.
Great videos, Kevin. I just bought a 2003 Cab and I'm looking at what I need to do and what I can do myself. I saw you changed the fuel sender but I didn't see it soon enough. What other coilovers did you consider. I'm trying to do pretty much the same thing, as in, not a track guy but I don't want a clunky suspension.
So i went with the feel 441+ coilovers they are a great coil over. They have solid mounts in front so you do give up some comfort and noise for handling. If the roads where you are, are smooth you should be fine. Im driving around the Boston area and the roads aren’t great here depending on which town your in.

Check the fuel pump before you buy the steering rack 🤣
Suspension rattle. Yes it’s the fuel pump.
