Mate loving the diagrammatics to aid your discussion. Nailing it. Well done
Really thanks for your comment.
Finding an animated video that doesn’t completely shut you down with copyright is a challenge.
I hope this one helps people understand what I’m trying to do.
Thanks again for watching.
Well done mate, hats off to you bro 😎 for taking on such a big job on, Keep up the good work. At least you going in a different direction repairing engines over bodywork as so many people do the bodywork stuff, so it’s nice to see you going in a different direction and give us viewers some different to watch. Merry Christmas 🎄 to you all 🎉
Thanks mate. Yeah I wanted to cover all aspects of the cars so needed some mechanical attention videos.
Big learning curve though.
Merry Christmas to you too mate.
Surely if the crank has score marks and you just clean and replace the shells then all thats going to happen is that the bearings will wear prematurely and all your doing is passing on the fix to the next person by not having the crank ground and fitting oversized shells.
The crank didn’t end up with score marks it was just a bit discoloured probably due to heat. I’m not just going to get rid of this until I’m sure it’s worked. If it doesn’t then I’ll put a new crank in it. I’ve seen loads of videos on people doing this and it being fine. We’ll see. 🙏
Great channel mate. Like the way you explain everything and it's normal cars that most if us can relate too. Not all lambos etc. Keep it up.👍
Thanks for this msg 😊
Glad you’re enjoying the journey.
PS think you're on the right path, check all the oil lines, the oil turbo feed and the turbo bearings which could have also overheated due to oil starvation mate 👍
All in the next video my friend.
Thanks for the advice though it helps 😊
That was a great explanation of the problems in the bottom end: thanks for including that footage.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching.
The only no fluff car guy on YT right now.
@@austinhumphris7358 thanks mate. 😎
Lol,you are looking at the wrong channels my man
@@dogosrobi thank you for your unsolicited advice.
Brilliant video, thanks. Straight to the point and you obviously know your sht. And ignore people moaning about the music, it's fine. New follower. Fair play. Edit: just got to the end, I hope it's not rings and just turbo!! Fingers crossed.
Thanks for this.
Appreciate it.
Great video. excellent clear explanation! 👍I had the similar happen to a 125d I owned 18mths ago. oil filter gasket blew (yeah totally bizarre failure), dropped all the oil on the A303, I was overtaking convey of tanks on low-loaders at the time and couldn't pull over immediately (didn't fancy getting squashed!). Same knocking noise. BMW Specialist said engine was knackered. If I'd have seen this video it would have been worth finding a mechanic to do some investigation before i scrapped it! subbed. 🙂
Nightmare! I think not cutting up a load of tanks was the best decision 🤣
It shows that even the smallest of things failing can destroy an engine. Bad luck that.
Thanks for watching.
Watched the whole series. Great viewing. And a nice surprise to see engine work 👍👍🚙 keep up the great work. Thanks for your time doing the vids.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching. 😊
Corner park typical car. People who have no money get finance on cars they can't maintain run them into ground and get repossessed to auction
Yeah I was thinking along the same lines.
Someone’s stuck a new air filter in it to try make it look like it’s been looked after. 🤣
See it all the time
Never seen an oil filter and sump like that before.... Crazy. Nice job though mate. Merry Xmas to everyone. I've subscribed and look forward to following your journey mate 👍
Appreciate the msg and merry Christmas to you too.
Great to see you tackling something a bit different, another excellent video 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
That engine sounded great after you finished just wondered if you cleaned the oil ways on the crank I was waiting for that no doubt you did but it would make the video a bit more interesting because a lot of TH-camrs seem to completely skip over mechanical things like that.
Great point!
I actually checked that oil was flowing through them but didn’t clean them individually. I was hoping the engine flush would take care of that. It’s had 3 oil changes now as well as the flush so it’s pretty clean in there now.
Looks like someone was topping up their oil with Vaseline or something LOL... That sludge is horrible... Nice to see the Bottom End Bearings done correctly (Watched Matt Armstrong last Week change all internals into a new Flat 6 Split Case without Measuring The Tolerance's of The Bearings with Plasti Gauge or using new Stretch Bolts I was shouting at the Monitor...NO not like that!).... Had to giggle when hearing you ordered one bolt for £30 and waited a week to find what you had done... Sort of thing I would do.
Mate. I was absolutely saying the same about Matt. I love his videos but get annoyed that he just wants the car and the video rather than doing the job correctly. He’s a massive inspiration but lost the mechanical fundamentals I think..
still his projects and achievements are amazing.
Thanks for this great comment. I really appreciate it.
Very very informative, loving your content sir! I am learning a lot!
Thanks. I’m glad people are enjoying the projects.
Totally agree it is probably the turbo seals that have gone. If so why not do a turbo rebuild on the channel. Not many people do them so maybe get lots of views. I would do one but my TVR don't have no turbo haha, just a blooming great big engine. Subbed.
Steve.
All in the next video 😎😉
Thanks for watching.
Great video great 🎶 music
Glad you like it.
Thanks for watching.
I would think it's the valve stem seal. BMWs are famous for them. After seeing what the oil looks like in the engine just imagine what it's going to look like under the valve cover.
I'm looking forward to see what it turns out to be.
Could well be. I’ll be thoroughly investigated in the next video.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Great job! You can save this engine, however, with that amount of sludge in the sump and in the engine, i think that cleaning Is not enought ... Oil pump and other component should be cleaned in ultrasonic cleaning machine, as well as a good engine flush with additive should be done at the First start, in order tò understand It all the oil passage are clear ... However excelent job!
Thanks for the tips!
I’ll go into the cleaning process I used in the next video.
Thanks for watching.
Oil flush with diesel and check the sump for sludge
Put some seafoam in the oil mate, that'll clean up the engine internals ..Good job , and merry Christmas mate. I'll just add I think you were lucky with the crank
Very lucky with the crank. I did an engine flush and 2 more oil changes since so I’ll go into this more in the next video.
Thanks for watching.
I think you should have changed main bearings at the same time good luck with this repair
I did consider this but that’s gearbox out and quite a bit more. It may come to that yet 😊
Thank you for watching.
Quality video mate, just subscribed. Well done mate!
Cheers for that. 😊
bonjour, beau travail !
Merci beaucoup 👍
I got same problem with my N47 bought for car for 220 pound but bottom was as your. Grinded Crankshaft after to -0.25 new bearings new piston rings one used piston and bottom block. Easy pz
Nice work. I may end up doing this if it doesn’t go well.
Thanks
You should check the date on the oil filter it really looked bad.
Didn’t know they had dates on. Wish I’d known. Useful information that. Thanks.
Great vid 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it. 😊
New sub, nice vid sir
Appreciate it!
Thanks.
When can we be expecting a new video?
Working on it now mate. Should be ready in a couple of days.
What about starting with the fuel filter, as it's probably not been changed since new. Wondering if its the injectors, as they probably been working hard with that sludge, egr/intakes probably gummed to fook.
Good call. I will get a new fuel filter for it.
Thanks for the suggestion.
That oil never been changed once I wouldn't of thought looking at that
No definitely not it was amazing how bad it was. The next video shows how bad it really is 😉
My sons VW Sirocco oil filter was the same if not worse than that and the engine is toast, I put a short on my channel..
Just watched that. Same unbelievable amount of sludge. I’m trying to research why this happened and oil only does this when it’s subjected to short distance exposure and never getting warm enough to boil out condensation. That acomponied with a neglect of oil servicing. Taking kids to school only is a car engine killer. I think this is the proof
Thanks for sharing this with me. 😊
That ending is wobbly, look into the seating.
? Please explain?
Think he's sat on his armchair remote and wants someone to blame lol
@ 🤣
if u spin a rod, u need a new rod. replacing the bearing will last like 50 miles max
Never tried anything like this before so Mabe it won’t work. If it ends up needing a full rebuild then that’s ok. More videos 😊
Good work lay on your back 😉
Thanks. And trying to film under the car was a nightmare! Cost me a camera screen too 🤦🏼♂️🤣
Some little G had that on finance. BMW software to reset the service indicator and then never serviced it.
🤣 totally agree 👍🏼
When bearing has spun all debris would go straight to turbo. Get a complete second hand motor and don’t waste time with this. The more you dig the more damage you will find on this motor.
It’s more a mission to see if it can be fixed at this point. The turbo is dead I know that now. I am prepared to get a new engine if needed but let’s give it a go first 😊
Thanks for watching.
Excellent
I was thinking the same mate but if it's not going to cost to much to try and see if the fix works good content for us all
@@andywhite1636 my thoughts exactly 👍🏼
Nice content!
Thanks 😊
Heh? Did you sand or polish the crank off camera?
A bit of both. Very lightly with 1000 grade wet and dry then worked up to 2000 then a touch of compound.
Didn’t want to remove too much material.
Hopefully it’s enough 🙏
The noise at the start of the engine is normal?
Only if you like hearing a broken engine.
@ I mean, when you start at 21m05, a Little noise. I have the same noise so to be sure that it’s not something serious
Ah I see. I think the auxiliary belts etc just squeak a bit when the engine first starts.
I don’t think it’s anything to worry about.
@@Gibboplay thanks mate 🙏🏼
That needs some work hope u get it done ,but think u mike need a new lump
Yeah I’m ready for an engine change if it is dead. It’s more of a mission to try and save this one for me. Doesn’t really matter how long it takes me as I’m enjoying trying 😊
Thanks for watching.
We're did you get all the torque numbers from
I spent days searching the internet to find the numbers and got loads of different answers. I ended up going with the most common answer. It looked like the part number of the bolts are the same in a lot of different engines so was able to narrow it down eventually I hope. 🤞
Totally well done but with oil that old and turned too tar the turbo will have been starved some feed pipes have Gauze
Bmw services intervals a far to long but it is marketing to make it sound cheaper to the first keeper and its the 3rd keeper who suffers for it
@@DanDan-hj2pp yeah the turbo is toast 🤣 all in the next video.
@@DanDan-hj2pp 100% mate.
That bumper corner would have been the correct color at first, smart repairs always age like this. They use poor quality colour and clear coat and don't use an oven. If you're thinking of getting a smart repair done and want to keep the car, don't.
I agree with you. I’ll be trying to do this repair myself in the next video.
Thanks for watching.
@Gibboplay if you're gonna keep it, use quality paint like PPG
OMG where are you from? For a non English native speaker is very hard to follow you 😂
🤣 Leeds in Yorkshire.
I know our accent is not an easy one and I’m not actually from here originally 🤣
Hope you have enjoyed the video.
Seems to a lot about mechanics of a engine for some who claims he is only leaning??
I just research everything as much as possible before starting the projects.
TH-cam is brilliant for this sort of thing.
I’m not a mechanic though I’m a joiner/ builder by trade.
I Just enjoy working on these cars when I have time.
Thanks for watching.
That sludge has prob come from stop smoke oil addative/stabalizer Its nasty stuff
Didn’t think about that. Yeah quite possibly the cause. Thanks.
Disco music is completely unnecessary. I know everyone does it but it absolutely frigging annoyingly horrible.
Only alternative is no sound and subtitles
My Yorkshire accent is more annoying 🤣
Council worker
People just moan for the sake of moaning, don't they?.
Bore off.
@@Theseus2399 quality is the preference for any person
The music is a complete joke it makes the video unwatchable to me
🤣 finding the perfect music for everyone is probably the hardest part.
Great DIY fix.. I have this issue with other car, do you think it's something similar? th-cam.com/video/V5_Zmvhwdk4/w-d-xo.html
That just sounds like something is a bit loose and rattling on start up.
I wouldn’t worry about it.
@@Gibboplay Well nobody knows so the car lives with it.. but when I slightly push throttle on, the sound change accordingly to higher rpm as well.
This automatic dubbing (into Portuguese) is horrible!
🤣 it will be my terrible Yorkshire accent.
Thanks for watching.
@@Gibboplayhahaha
00:08” well I’ve just bought the next car and it’s a car with potentially dead engine”
But in Portuguese you say “Um motor de vaca potencialmente morto” - “A Cow Engine Potentially Dead”
Wtf haha car / cow
@@vishfeeh 🤣🤣🤣
Sorry but that is by no means a 50k super car .its a boring unreliable 4k peace of German crap
🤣 no it’s not a super car. We’re miles off that yet. The series is about fixing these cars starting with a £500 golf and trying to build up profits to buy something nice eventually. I probably should try explaining that in every video of the series.
@Gibboplay sorry mate my apologies
@ not at all mate.
Thanks for watching the video.
