What an excellent experience david! Make a video about your equipment and nutrition for this great challenge! What happened to alvin? Did he finished the route?
Wow! Wow! Wow! Fantastic adventure David. Very inspiring episode. I could feel the heat and the cold in equal measure. Well done and thank you. From Finian…..A fan from Ireland.
Congratulations, great ride, as a Colombian and also as a cyclist i know how hard is that climbing, the altitude makes more difficult than anything you know.
I was there two months ago, it was a unique experience, the landscape at the top of the hill, the climb. 4.150 meters onto the sea level that's something. I wanted to join Alto de Letras after but it was raining too much. The climb was 97 km in total from Armero!
What a great achievement. Kudos from a fellow Colombian who also follows you on youtube. Now how about a video telling us what bicycle you used with all the in-depth details on it? Very curious to see what would you recommend to tackle such climb👍
I did this exact route starting in Armero this past August. From Alto De Sifón we continued down then up again to Letras. 11 hrs 30 minutes. As a 61 yr old, Canadian, the coolness was not a worry hahah. I tip my hat to you David. Excellent video..!
@ Gosh, so many variables. Saying all things being equal is impossible. Both are epic and both require physical and mental strength. I strongly encourage you to to go back and do it. While your there “El Crucero” is another MUST route. 90+ km’s with 3800 meters of climbing. Not the toughest that Colombia has to offer but epic nonetheless!
Great to see you graduate from Cycling good Sir. The Colombians have a great spirit. See there on rim brakes too 🙏. Thanks for the beaut video. The road and route looks mint cycling paradise, fear, excitement, wtf am I doing 😂 to yes I did it 👍🚴
Colombia: the opening act of te Andes. In Bolivia and Peru lurk true monsters, thank goodness most of them are gravel so we don't have to deal with all the tourists...
Fair play to you doing a monster climb like that without aclimatisation. I went to Annapurna base camp as a very fit 19 year old a long time ago, and the altitude was certainly something that made itself felt. I had a chance to gain elevation more gradually too, with it being a trek.
I once climbed up to the ski resort peak above Granada, Spain on a tri bike with a disc wheel and 11-28 gearing. And then ran a mile around the parking area at the top. Totally ridiculous, but also a ton of fun. Did it with a group. Took about 3 hours.
Yeah sadly on this occasion due to the group size and weather we got shuttled down the other side to our overnight stop. I'd have liked to ride the descent but reason to go back
Well done Dave. Epic ride. Nice pack of riders on pretty basic bikes. Did i see qr wheels with rim brakes? Nice!Guess you entered the scene on the fanciest bike of them all?
soemthign to add to the bucket list.....especially after this years Taiwan KOM challenge (2024) was cancelled after an hour due to weather and landslides.....but maybe the weather in Columbia is equally marginal
I made this climb before it was pavemented, it was magical and hard, but now this pavemented road becomes a ecologic disaster, this ecosystem is extremely fragile
I wonder why the continuos climb to Ticlio from Lima, in Peru, which is 144km from 0m to 4800m. Is not considered the longest and highest climb in the world.
is there a calculator somewhere on how long would that take for a 105kg person (+ bike+bottles etc) at around 2W/kg to do it? Adjusted for elevation and stops. Is that still doable in a day with an early start?
This kind of content is so much better than the usual sales pitch. Keep it coming!
Hope Colombia treated you nicely. Greetings from Bogotá!
Nicely done, David. Thank you for what you do for all of us cyclists out here in the world.
My pleasure!
Well done. Epic ride David. You are a beast. Very inspirational.
It's worth mentioning that Scarab Cycles are custom made 🇨🇴 colombian bicycles.

Hey David ! Nice you came all the way down here and climbed El Sifón. Hope you enjoyed the whole thing. Cheers!
Monster climb! Well done DA.
Please come to Ecuador, southern neighbor to Colombia and try Alto de Alpagua. It’s a bit shorter than the video one, but much more difficult.
Added to the list :)

Wow that sounds a mammoth ride! I'm keen to go back and do Letras how would you say they compare? Similar?

Love the Scarab bikes. Great effort David, odd pleasure seeing someone else suffering on a climb 🙃
What a fabulous video! Great content, characters and climb. Awesome job David 🏆💪

Congrats on an awesome ride, David! Oh, and you're wearing gloves!!! Hope to see a review of those soon... 🤣
Happy to have you here!! Amazing video, thanks for showing how beautiful our country is!
Awesome video and great motivation.

Brilliant! That's one to remember. Visit Cartagena while you're there, amazing place!
"Reduced to one pedal stoke at a time" - Imagine that 🤣
Looked epic 👌
It was a pleasure to have you here!! Do you have our hilly sprint video?
Awesome effort!
Finally this one is out... Next time you have to go el crucero is even longer... Not higher but is brutal as well (Santi from scarab... 🤘🏼)
Well done!!
Que buen episodio, pronto haré esa ruta....
Amazing David. Congratulations on your achievement. What was the bike you used?
Great respect and admiration
Amazing climb! What happens after dinner, you all get shuttled down in a bus back to Mariquita? Cheers!
Yeah sadly on this occasion due to the group size and weather we got shuttled down the other side to our overnight stop. I'd have liked to ride the descent but reason to go back
Looked a monster! Well done. How did you get back?
Beautiful Colombia !
Well done Dave. Epic ride. Nice pack of riders on pretty basic bikes. Did i see qr wheels with rim brakes? Nice!Guess you entered the scene on the fanciest bike of them all?
Job well done!!!
Well done Dave💪
What an achievement and experienced. That elevation is staggering and a knee cracking. You are now a true cyclist..😅
Now this was truly Epic. Great riding David. Now what’s next
Arizona video dropping in a couple of weeks :)
Impressive David !!!
Well done. Two thumbs up.
soemthign to add to the bucket list.....especially after this years Taiwan KOM challenge (2024) was cancelled after an hour due to weather and landslides.....but maybe the weather in Columbia is equally marginal
you leave me speechless! 👍👍👍
Love a vlog video. Looks epic, wet but epic
Amazing achievement!
Great video!
Well done.
Great job ! Ps. Noticed almost all rim brakes in the group !
good job maaaan!
Great effort! what camera was this shot on? the HDR skin tones are horrific!
Well done, that looked amazing. Unfortunately, it would be above my capabilities.
Seems like a few steel frames? I know that altitude issue. I got very sick on Mont Blanc at my fittest in my life, but altitude takes no prisoners.
Colombia is beautiful
it's amazing !👍💥 the mind is stronger than legs 🤪
Refreshing to see the guys on rim brakes.
Congrats, well done, quite the achievement David 🫡
Thanks! :)
I made this climb before it was pavemented, it was magical and hard, but now this pavemented road becomes a ecologic disaster, this ecosystem is extremely fragile
Well done big man!
Nice!!
Pikes peak in colorado over 4300m also
awesome!

Great video Dave, back to your roots …. Just ride bikes…..
Congrats! 🎉 what an epic achievement. El Sifón is never an easy climb. Come back to Colombia soon 🇨🇴🚴🏻♀️@colombici
The locals look like they are running a 23,25 at most!!
what was your gearing?
52/36 and 11-34 - was mostly fine the hardest part of the climb is the middle third were the gradient noticeably ramps up
is there a calculator somewhere on how long would that take for a 105kg person (+ bike+bottles etc) at around 2W/kg to do it? Adjusted for elevation and stops. Is that still doable in a day with an early start?
There is a climb calculator somewhere on the web which is pretty accurate from memory, I'll try and find it in a bit
So what was your time?
How long for this monster of a climb?
Hold up, let me get some popcorn 👀
It is not the highest. There are paved roads well above 5000m in Tibet. Can find on Strava.
Mt. Evans paved climb is higher 4339m
Yup it's higher, but it's shorter at 44km ;)
Not the highest or longest mauna Kea in Hawaii 14k plus ft and 89.3km
U lied in the title it’s 115 km
The entire route is 115km from the town of Marquita but the climb itself is 88km
