Went to Japan last years summer with my «kid» (he’s 19) and we ended up with an extra suitcase with just Gundam kits (mostly for him …) :) The prices there, especially compared to Norway is insanely low, if we had filled another suitcase and sold them here we could have almost paid for the trip - Managed to visit the huge animated robot in Yokohama before they shut it down as well and filmed the whole long startup sequence as well, so much fun there and the Mandarake-stores are just crazy full of everything - gonna have to go back again at some point, but nice to see some Gundam sneak into this channel as well, this channel has turned into my favourite modern «the good old days» showcase to force feed my kid with all the cool stuff we grew up with ;)

I've been collecting gunpla for years but stopped due budget/lack of time, but this video was a cool refresher of why they're so awesome. BTW what would be the best UK based stores you'd recommend re:latest japanese imports? I have a friend visiting from London and he offered to get something for me. I checked Forbidden Planet & Kikatek but their inventory is very limited, I'm looking for something that stocks soul of chogokin, CCSTOYS, etc. Every reddit post I've seen recommends I should just import it from HLJ, Amiami, etc but I'm not sure about shipping times & fees. Took your advice and went to Hobbycraft near me 8n Derby. Got 4 kits to try out, so im a big fan of this no glue lark. Whats the biggest kit that bandai namco do??
I assume you bought a bunch of HG kits. They are 1/144 scale. Now imagine a complete HG mech being the pilot of another mech... Try looking up the HG Neo Zeong and zoom in close to the upper chest of a completed build... If however you want, say a regular RX-78 Gundam but at that huge size, look up Perfect Grade, they are 1/60 scale (Adam Savage of Mythbusters built one and loved it, you can find the video on TH-cam).

Brought me back when breaking down that mad scientist kit. I can still remember having a hard time closing that plastic stitch up. Wish I can tell you who that kid is, not ringing a bell.
Pretty sure a bootleg company used those beetleborg model kits. Remember buying a few from a dollar store, had all sorts of really cheap bootleg toys. They would fall apart constantly, almost like they were meant to be a model kit that was press fit together (terribly) and seeing this, just gave me flashbacks.
Things were very different when I got my first gunpla kit about 24 years ago. I got mine from Woolworths when they came out to promote Gundam Wing on cartoon network. Then one day, randomly, I saw some Gundam Seed kits in poundstretchers! I got a HG strike freedom for £1.99!

That's an ancient master grade lol. Wait till you try one of the modern master grade kits, fully color separated eyes made completely in plastic and minimal foil stickers if any at all.

Man, the entire universe seems to be pushing me headfirst into a new Gunpla hobby. I'm so seriously tempted to order an HG kit or two but my model making efforts in the past have been just a little too frustrating. I can feel my resolve cracking though.

Rement has a cool line called pose skeleton. They are like 3 3/4" scale, and has skeleton adults, kids, dogs, cats, gorillas, and diorama accessories......
If you wanna mix Gunpla and toy making you could design your own bits... There's also the 30 Minute Missions/Sisters/Fantasy lines that Bandai has put out too, which are a more generic line with universally fitting parts that's akin to old Bionicle. With some cleverness you could likely make your own figure using the joints from those models.

I’d say a cool idea for the next build for the evangelion would to do a collab build - bring someone that’s an expert builder into the studio and the two of yea put they bad boy together. I’m sure lots of wisdom and ideas would come through the process of the build.

I've still got that Dissect An Alien toy - my dad got it for me many years ago whilst on a business trip to the US. The slime has long since gone and the alien is a bit nasty and sticky these days though. I've also got a couple of the smaller toys from the same Mad Scientist range including a rubber monster that vomits slime and a mould kit where you could make your own monsters from "living flesh" (some sort of thick slime that set?)
I remember my first Gundam: the Dragon 1/100 scale. I got it when I was maybe 12, given some snips and sent on my way by my dad. It was great, and really laid those modelling seeds early. Lasted for years, through multiple moves across the US, all the way until I had kids, and then absolutely shattered, pieces lost, etc. What remains is on my desk, like relics of a long dead saint.
I spotted those model toy kits in Hobbycraft, along with a Transformers line I was already collecting. It was quite thrilling to see those kits just sitting there on the shelf in the wild 😁 But hobbycraft??? So random 😂
@slimehousetv yeah, like you said it's probably the most expensive place for hobby material. It's always seemed aimed at "trends" more than actual enthusiasts. I do enjoy a browse of their model kits though. In fact it's not unusual for me to lose an hour looking round all the craft supplies, I just never buy anything 😂 I spot cool stuff then find it cheaper online. I'm gonna grab a couple of these kits though, help encourage them to stock more stuff like this.
As it happens I was in my local Hobbycraft yesterday and noticed they had RG kits in there! Didn't think I'd ever see Gunpla on the high street, nevermind high end kits.
In Britain in the 80s the only place you could get imported Japanese model kits was Beatties, now sadly gone. And I used to do the trick with filling in the recesses with a metal tipped ink pen and wiping the residue off so they'd stand out at the time! Sometimes the old ways are the best because why mess with a technique that works? 😂✌️

But if your into Nipon, try plaza Japan every shipment is over packed..stuffed with the local paper and always a lucky dip toy free gift hidden in each shipment. Just out of curiosity checked the prices on hobbylink...still more expensive than dedicated Gunpla importers in the UK like GundamMad or GunplaUK.

I've still got that Dissect An Alien toy - my dad got it for me many years ago whilst on a business trip to the US. The slime has long since gone and the alien is a bit nasty and sticky these days though. I've also got a couple of the smaller toys from the same Mad Scientist range including a rubber monster that vomits slime and a mould kit where you could make your own monsters from "living flesh" (some sort of thick slime that set?)
I remember my first Gundam: the Dragon 1/100 scale. I got it when I was maybe 12, given some snips and sent on my way by my dad.
It was great, and really laid those modelling seeds early. Lasted for years, through multiple moves across the US, all the way until I had kids, and then absolutely shattered, pieces lost, etc. What remains is on my desk, like relics of a long dead saint.

I spotted those model toy kits in Hobbycraft, along with a Transformers line I was already collecting. It was quite thrilling to see those kits just sitting there on the shelf in the wild 😁
But hobbycraft??? So random 😂
Well they are hobby pieces. And Hobbycraft Has always sold model paint and air fix model kits so I suppose it makes a lot of sense 🙏
@slimehousetv yeah, like you said it's probably the most expensive place for hobby material. It's always seemed aimed at "trends" more than actual enthusiasts.
I do enjoy a browse of their model kits though. In fact it's not unusual for me to lose an hour looking round all the craft supplies, I just never buy anything 😂 I spot cool stuff then find it cheaper online.
I'm gonna grab a couple of these kits though, help encourage them to stock more stuff like this.
My cousin got that Alien dissection toy and I’ll admit that that was the one time I was genuinely jealous of him.
As it happens I was in my local Hobbycraft yesterday and noticed they had RG kits in there! Didn't think I'd ever see Gunpla on the high street, nevermind high end kits.

In Britain in the 80s the only place you could get imported Japanese model kits was Beatties, now sadly gone. And I used to do the trick with filling in the recesses with a metal tipped ink pen and wiping the residue off so they'd stand out at the time! Sometimes the old ways are the best because why mess with a technique that works? 😂✌️
