- Hey, today I "unbox" this rare ration aka MRE from Korea (North). I sample some of the "delicacies" and give you my honest review and reaction. Please enjoy, but first like and sascribe. #food #koreanfood
The larvae are beondegi, they are a Korean silk worm. Shows its a real north korean ration, they will get protein from anywhere they can
People still eat these in South Korea. I have eaten them myself, they're just a seasonal traditional street food.

Wow, this is some dystopian grade nutrition. Very depressing meal. If this is what soldiers get, I'm a bit terrified to see what the poorest citizens are eating. I mean it made your nose bleed which is super terrifying.
Honestly from what the R.O.K.A. (Republic of Korea Army) told me. Most regular North Koreans eat whatever they can salvage. In true Communist fashion, the government will seize crops/livestock from farmers.
Whether its true or not, based on rations like this. I like to think the Korean Soliders I met told me the sad truth.

This is not real, I know it is a joke (although a sad one). It is commonly known fact that North Korean Army does not have MREs because economy of this country is insufficient to produce them. As far I know (from defectors stories who served in military) they got one meal per day, usually rice, beans and corn but in very small quantities (one million soldiers is hard to feed, especially during constant food shortage). I really feel sorry for these people, they are exploited to the limits by the regime.

@@DonejMandrakes Dude, persimmon is a fruit similar to tomato, and yes, it is very common in Korea. My point is this can't be persimmon, it looks rather like moldy seaweed snack bar (I don't know where you bought it, but it looks spoiled).

I was stationed at Camp Humphreys in South Korea. And holy shit, this is the most depressing ration I have ever seen.
The South Koreans have two types of rations, both are very flavorful. One is a cheaper add water rice/seasame individual bag meal. The other (older, I think) is like a US MRE, but comes with Kimchi/Almond cake bar/BBQ Sausages/Rice/M&Ms. Steve1989 has done a review on one.
I have had quite a few rations from all over (Korea, Denmark, UK, US, Russia). And it is always interesting seeing what each nation feeds their soliders. Oddly enough, the European ones are the best overall so far. The US/UK rations are on the same level of mass produced minimal flavor, but have calories. Russia had the best sides by far and the absolute best/ worst entrees in literal cat/dog food tins due to random food standards. But by far, I thought China had the worst rations. Seeing that North Korea even produced these is shocking.
All that being said, let me give you some advice being you just ate a North Korean Ration. I would make sure you're in contact with your Primary Care Manager. And I'd cleanse my stomach with two glasses of Prune Juice followed by a glass of Kefir after shitting your brains out.

Yeah in an opened sardine can with a cardboard unsealed cover. BTW since new York is strapped for cash they asked me to broker the sale of the Brooklyn bridge for scrap. Interested, nice and cheap.
You ate bugs from North Korea. God bless you! The rice was probably completely dry when new and sealed but rice absorbs water like a sponge. As soon as the seal broke, it pulled moisture from the air. The "additional ingredients" are just from extremely poor quality production processes. You can find the same thing in bulk rice purchased for cheap here in the US.

I dunno if they do. The silkworm pupae were worse than I let on in the video. I don't like wasting food, so I tried mixing it into my tuna salad. Nasty! They overpower everything.

You're right though.

The damn thing is 23 years old, stored in a cardboard box in mystery conditions, and visibly spoiled and damaged… cool to see what is in an average ration, but obviously it’s not going to look good or be very healthy in that state…
