- The word ‘friend’ has, over a period, come to be used for pretty much everybody we know…acquaintances, colleagues, associates, Facebook connections, partners, collaborators and neighbours… with the result that the gravity that one attached to the word - ‘Friend’, seems to have been abandoned.
Friendship, however, serves certain purposes in our life. When we remember what these purposes are, we recognize who our friends are, we keep them close, and invested in.
So, the questions that sprung in my mind were:
Who is a friend? What are friends for? Who is not a friend? What purpose does friendship serve, or should serve?
This nazm is called ‘Dosti Ka Maqsad’ and is inspired by the works of my favorite contemporary philosopher - Alain de Botton.
Do please write to me about your opinion on who else qualifies to be called a ‘friend’.

P.S. I would like to dedicate this nazm to my friends, in all five categories, but especially to Janaab Ketan Jhaveri of Devotie. Not only is he responsible for my endless supply of Jawahar-Bandis, but also pushed me, over years, to consider a profession in writing and voice. So Ketan Bhai, thank you for the endless coaxing and ‘kick in the asses’, and being a great friend to me. Big Hugs.

Friends
A friend is who, can feel you without telling a single word.
A friend is someone who care for you, understand you only by your's smile.
A friend is always empathetic not only sympathetic.
A friend is someone very special whose presence always give you peace
A friend always be with you without any materialistic expectations.
A friend is who can sing a song for you when you have forgotten the words.
A friend is someone who can finished your incomplete paintings.
A friend is always cause for your smile not for your cry.
A friend is someone who stay forever beyond time, distance, words even physical existence.

Bahut acche, add one more category or can be a category that is Sukoon, sometimes u just feel great to have a friend with the maqsad of sukoon

Aap se bhi to ek dosti hai, jiska maksad kuch seekhna hai, t-o kuch manoranjan kara hai. Kuch Dil ki baatein share karna hai,jo hum kah nahi pate,woh aap bakhubi kahate hain t-o dil ko sukoon milta hai,aur sabse bari baat hain,hum aapko dost mante hain per aapko iski khabar bhi nahin. Hai na dosti ka bemisaal peshkash?
