2:23 As a ride op I can confirm that the main reason rides go down for weather especially tall coasters isnt rain, it's actually lightning. At that height these rides basically act as lightning rods (not the coaster at dollywood) so closing them is ideal, especially since they are mostly made of steel, and electricity travels easily through metal.
@@CoasterDash I bet SFGAM has a radar set up at the park somewhere backstage to detect where lightning strikes. At the park I work at, some rides can go down if there's lightning within 15 miles of the park, so maybe it was that far away the whole time and not closer.
@@1BillionMarbles Yes. As a former employee, I can confirm they have a weather monitoring system. It's accessible only to Operations (rides and park services) and Security. The only reason all rides would be closed for light drizzling is, in fact, lightning.
LETS GOO!!! My home park! Glad you finally visited, the line up is incredibly deep and one of the only parks I have visited where I can say there’s little to no gaps in the collection
@@thrasherx2k1 No, they replaced one small section (the upward track section of the first hill after the first turnaround). That's it. A few wood pieces here and there, but not a re-track and certainly nothing that affects how the ride runs.
Cedar Fair did not build the Beast at Kings Island. Cedar Fair bought Kings Island 27 years after the Beast opened. The Beast was built by the original Kings Island Company that owned the park from 1972 to 1992.
I live about an hour away from Great America (no one here calls it Six Flags.) We used to go every summer as a kid, and The Eagle was the first 'big kid' ride I rode just as soon as I hit that height requirement (used to try to stand on my tiptoes 😅😆!) That ride will forever be in my memories!
"they are so loaded with coasters it's unfair" explains why I love having it as a home park xD Also American Eagle is my favorite ride in the park... don't talk shit about a ride until you've actually been on it;) but also the fact that everyone has a different favorite coaster in this park shows just how solid the collection of coasters is
It is my home park and I went the second week it was open and it rained the whole day and only maxx force was closed. I have never had a problem with rain at the park
I go here every year for fright fest and the water near the carousel, they dye it red. I can't wait to go there this year. I'm going in less than a week.
I freaking love this park. It's my home park (although I'm 2.5 hours away)! The coaster collection is as deep as I've seen one, and each and every single one of them are so fun
I was at Great America that day, and I waited 45 minutes for x flight in the rain, which was such a mistake, so we left the line and went to a different attraction
It's great to see that you finally made it out here. It's currently my second favorite Six Flags park behind Magic Mountain. The ride lineup at this park is ridiculously awesome.
I live 10 minutes from this park been getting season passes every year. Three generations of my family go there. I remember when all these coasters were built.
glad you enjoyed my home park! its a mazing park and I agree the only the thing is missing is something unique to drag people out to the middle of the country
I love going through the superstructure on Viper. I also like the theming on X-Flight in that it's themed to mechanical flight instead of birds. The inline twist through the base of the tower is amazing.
Raging Bull ❤. American Eagle is one of my favorites in the park. Back row isn’t too rough for me. It was insane when they ran it backwards!!! Glad you had a great time 🎉
As a kid at great America here in California. I won a bunch of stuffed animals and rode their whizzer with a car just me & car full of stuffed animals. No restraints all survived!
My family and I went to Great America this past week, we lucked out and rode Maxx Force 6-7 times in three days, we also rode all the other coasters 4-5 times each in those three days, we really enjoyed this park😁👍
That weather situation is very unusual. I have ridden many of their coasters in pouring rain and I have even ridden raging bull in the snow. There must have been lightning which is the only reason that all the rides will be shut down at once.
Maxx Force is one of the only coasters in the world that I would be genuinely terrified to ride. That launch looks like it might be the best element on any coaster in the US though.
The reason they got rid of Shockwave was mechanical, maintenance, and engineering difficulties that were putting strains on the support columns because of how tall it was and because of how fast the train was going into some turns.
I remember when I was in Great Adventure, it was POURING rain for like 20 minutes, so I decided to get some food with my cousins, and after it stopped, all the rides remained open and the park lost like 80% of its visitors, so we got to ride all the coasters we wanted with little to no wait. Very odd to see Great America close their coasters after a shower
YESSS im glad you liked raging bull! that was my first B&M hyper and I loved it. Even after riding 5 more B&M hypers, Raging bull is still my top 3 hypers~
So glad you visited my home park! I have such a soft spot for this park after almost 30 years of visiting since a kid ❤️🤍💙American Eagle in the back row is where it’s at btw! 👩🍳💋 Teleporting is a great way to describe Maxx Force’s launch! The first drop on Goliath is elite!
I bought the Six Flags Plus monthly membership this past season (which I plan on keeping as long as the new Six Flags keeps supporting the legacy passes) and was able to get up to Gurnee several times. They did some retracking on Viper and smoothed out several rough spots. It was running great this year. I got some diagonal sustained ejector airtime in the back row. I was also up there the day after they’d announced Wrath of Rakshasa and was surprised at how much demolition of the old Buccaneer Battle area had progressed. Did not do Sky Striker because those types of rides make me nauseous. I even did the bumper cars over in Orleans Place which I haven’t done in 30 years. If you get back there in 2025, try the food at Yukon BBQ Pit. The smoked turkey sandwich I had was quite good. With the merger, I really hope the Six Flags parks get the Coke Freestyle machines. Sometimes I would like a cherry Fanta or a cherry vanilla Coke.
Welcome to my home park! Maxx Force is the most annoying ride to get on I’ve ever experienced. I’m not sure why they closed for drizzling unless there was potential for something more. I’ve been there on a drizzly day
Awesome vid. SFGA reminds me of Cedar Point in Variety and quality, but like the ride times are kinda quick compared to Cedar Point's machines. With the location of this park to Michigan's Adventure, I'd love to see each one get a coaster that doesn't exist at Cedar Point, like a secret collaboration if you will. If one gets a single-track RMC, the other gets a surf coaster or a Mack Spinner. By doing this, families and enthusiasts could add both of these parks to their Midwest coaster trip. An RMC Raptor plus Shivering Timbers would be a great one-two punch before you go to Chicago for the night to party or catch a Cubs Sportsball game the same night, wake up the next day, travel 40 minutes or less and Six Flags is yours! Both parks profit, people have great trips that inspire others to have a great trip. Win Win
We did this park last year. Friday in July with no flash pass, but lucky with really light crowds. Did every coaster 1x and then 2x on Viper and Maxx Force, 3x on RB, and 5x on Goliath. We have the diamond, so got to do a 1x flash pass for MF and used the single rider line on the other. I don’t think we waited more than 15-20mins all day. It’s a very well rounded collection and an upper tier park. They do not have any elite rides and often they have lower to mid tier examples of each model, but the depth made it a great park. MF got me with that launch pretty good. RB had some good drops, just wish the twister stuff was a bit more whippy. Goliath was great, as is any RMC and actually more intense than most, but was definitely needing some additional duration. The surprise of the trip for us was Viper. Back row with a ton of room and we were getting crazy standing airtime. It was a top 5 woodie for me and while not the best ride in the park, was the highlight based on expectations.
I've always wanted to ride Goliath more so than other RMCs I've yet to try. It's elements and the fact that it is wood make it unique and much more appealing to me!
I just came back from a USA coaster trip so catching up on my videos. I know in the past i've told you to visit SFGAm and that it's a top tier six flags park with a great lineup. Sounds like you thought so too which is great to hear. My last day of my USA trip (yesterday) was also at SFGAm, but unfortunately Golaith was closed all day for me. Would have loved to see if it's still as good as my 2019 visit. Raging Bull still kicked ass.
I love American Eagle. I hope that they bring in GCI or the Gravity Group to renovate it. If they do that they'll probably keep the old PTC trains to use for parts on the trains for Little Dipper and Viper. Did you go on Little Dipper? That is another ACE landmark. It used to be at a local amusement park called Kiddieland until that park closed in 2009. Great America bought it to keep it from the scrap pile. I always have to ride the carousel too. You get some nice views from the upper deck and you can't ride a carousel without feeling like a kid again.
I'm glad you got to experience Maxx Force in the front row. I was on the 2nd train on Media Day and was very impressed, but Six Flags seems to have a hard time keeping this thing open. During the past few years, it's been closed almost every time I've visited even on days with decent weather, and this is my home park. If the model was more reliable, I think we'd see more of these at other parks, and perhaps an Axis coaster in the USA by now. That said, Maxx Force has perhaps the best launch on any coaster I've experienced. The only things that might exceed it are Top Thrill Dragster (RIP...ish) and Kingda Ka. Also, the swing launch on Pantheon gives it a run for it's money, as you actually feel ejector airtime on that thing where as the slight hop in to the first inversion on Maxx Force offers almost none.
During COVID they had a drive through light show that was fun. My stepkids and gf liked the lights and such they weren’t bad but I though it was cool just driving though the park.
I went to Island’s of Adventure this past May and every single ride that wasn’t indoors was closed for an hour and a half due to “inclement weather” even though there wasn’t a single drop of rain that fell from the sky. but as soon as there’s lightning in the area, they gotta shut it all down until it stops
I swear the American Eagle coaster jumped the track once while I was on it. It actually felt like it disconnected for a second then when I got back on it I didn't experience that feeling again lol
Great video and great Vlog! I'm really looking forward to the Mt Olympus vlog! Nice collection of coasters! Now when you do a top hyper coaster list again you can include Raging Bull.
Dude I just hit Mt Olympus myself last weekend, weirdest place but I had a blast. Hades blew me away, possibly unpopular opinion but I have it at #9 out of 224, would rank it higher still if the tunnels weren’t so rough in the back of the train. Also don’t miss out on the Medusa Slide Wheel!
British parks would be screwed if they closed for inclement weather lol. Though The Big One does close for high winds, and Thirteen can’t run in the rain cos of the drive tyres on the lift hill, but a bit wet and everything closes sounds mad.
American Eagle is my #2 at the park behind goliath, it has so much more airtime than raging bull especially in the back row and its just got that right amount of jankiness to just make me laugh hysterically riding it.
X flight is such a good ride for such a small wait depending on the days you go I had a 10 min wait time and the little upside down into the drop gives it a little bit of a universal studios Orlando hulk coaster element love those glad you visited my home park ❤😊
I really like the style of these vlogs! Happy you went to SFGAm! Would be interested to hear your rankings. Keep it up, excited for your Europe trip again!
It seems that with a flash pass the park could be done in one day and all the major rides and coasters could be done, did it feel that way or did you have to rush around? I'm planning a trip this summer
Obviously not unique, but worth noting that it's the original Batman. And I still find that queue theming really great. Also worth noting that Great America is kind of key in the birth of B&M. They worked on Z-Force while at Giovanola, redid the cars for Rolling Thunder when it arrived at the park, built their first coaster in Iron Wolf, and built the first Batman. And of course three more coasters since then. Really a pretty cool part of GA's and B&M's histories. Oh, and Raging Bull seems to be running even better this year, especially through the MCBR.
I haven't been to Six Flags Great America in well over 2 decades. I really miss it too. The 🎢🎢rollercoasters🎢🎢🎢 at Six Flags were always great. I remember some of the older now "retired" coasters. Shock Wave, Z-Force, Iron Wolf, Tidal Wave, plus a few more I can't remember. Another ride now gone was the Space Shuttle ride called the Power Dive. There was also a Bobsledding type of ride as well, also gone. I can't remember the name of it. I lived in Milwaukee during this time and we'd hit Six Flags at least once a month, sometimes twice, depending on 💸💰money💰💸 and schedules. There were a couple of years where a friend of mine worked there and we'd ride down there with him and he'd get us in for free. The first summer it was insane. We went close to two to three times a week. There were some days when it was cool outside or rainy, the park was very quiet, and some coasters had zero wait times. We we able to ride the Eagle, the Demon, and the Whizzer multiple times. The person running the ride would say over the intercom, of there is nobody waiting in your car's line you can stay on and ride again. It easily was the most incredible experience we had at Six Flags. When Batman came out it was insane. The lines were 3-4 hours long! I had taken my nephew there and we finally got to the ride. We were first for the next car. He told us to go to the back. I asked PLEASE it's our first time, could we get the first car. My nephew said nooo, but I convinced him and the attendant let us in the first row and it was so special, incredible, amazing, and so fun. As you said the length of the rides aren't long. Batman was short, but the adrenalin and excitement makes up for it. It was epic, and a epic day! Thanks for sharing your experience and adventure. Since those days my health has deteriorated quite a bit. I'll probably never see Six Flags again, but the memories I have are so special and wonderful. Take care and God Bless.
Wow! How Convenient! I was supposed to go the same exact same day with my summer camp, but we didn't go and instead went on Wednesday due to rain. Just shows that my counselors were kind of stupid. [X Flight is my favorite] 👍👍👍
Great video as always. Glad you got to experience SFGAm, my favorite park in the chain. And Raging Bull is by far my favorite B&M hyper. I much prefer the twister layout over airtime, which is overrated. Rides like Diamondback at KI and Goliath at SFOG just bore me.
Great America is awesome that wether delay sucks though I went years ago and the wether delay never affected me kinda weird that happened … X Flight when it was new used to be much smoother the rattle has gotten worse since… Me personally I also think Ranging bull is my personal favorite at the park but that doesn’t mean Goliath isn’t awesome..
Hey there, Definitely ride Maxx Force right at open and right at close. Flash Pass will be a worthy investment and will save you a ton of time. Maxx Force is best in the front, Raging Bull is by far best in the VERY back, and Goliath is best in the back too. Ride operators will be happy to honor row requests if you ask nicely :)
It's the Kings Island of Six Flags. It more stands out for general overall quality, park appearance and varied ride collection. I still prefer Magic Mountain and Fiesta Texas because Magic Mountain's coaster collection is just that good and Fiesta Texas is such a great experience with great theming and atmosphere, but Great America is third best in the chain for me. For similar reasons I prefer Cedar Point and Knott's Berry Farm over Kings Island though I recognize that KI is also an overall great park.
I agree! Raging Bull is great! I actually prefer how it isn't only airtime, it mixes it up so you get a variety of forces! and unlike most "top tier" hypers, the end of ride airtime moments are actually quality. I grew up hearing lots of people call it "Raging Bore" and Im so glad that nowadays... virtually nobody that rides it says anything near that sentiment. Also Python is the park's unsung hero imo. And you're right. this midwest region has an ungodly amount of wing coasters lol I remember when they were still the hot new thing, once we hit like mid to late 2010s being like "wait... somehow I've ridden like all of the B&M wing coasters in the whole US XD" And I agree, Goliath has one of the best Zero G stall. i dont understand why few of the newer ones end up with as great of a stall. They'll last very short, or the twist the wrong way which forces an earlier twist out of it. (wildcat shouldve twisted clockwise so it could twist out later into the right hand turn)
I actually prefer Maxx Force in the last row. It`s more intense back there to me. Also, ACE confirmed the launch to be 0-78 mph in 1.7 seconds. Of the two RMCs I`ve ridden-Goliath and Outlaw Run- I prefer Goliath. It`s elements feel more powerful to me even though Outlaw Run has more elements. But everyone`s opinions will vary and that`s what makes this hobby so great!
For me it doesnt matter the ride, i want to be as far behind the center of gravity as possible. Cuz even on maxx force once im at the top of the hill, i wanna feel like im being yanked down
SFGA is my home park as well. your reactions on viper where hilarious. the surprise to the airtime was great. as a side note it always blew my mind how good of a park SFGA is compared to most of the chain. Glad we got a good one. American Eagle is the best. I hope they put some money into that coaster with a retrack. RMC ibox or the type on goliah would be amazing. I just want a dueling coaster. that was the coolest part. As a kid nothing else was more fun than racing your buddy in the red car. Blue side is the best!

Rode my very first coaster there in 1982. It was called the tidal wave.
Thank you for going to great America I don’t see lots of blogs of people going there but I love watching them whenever I do❤
Of course! I loved it so much.
During COVID they had a drive through light show that was fun. My stepkids and gf liked the lights and such they weren’t bad but I though it was cool just driving though the park.
The Whizzer was my first coaster as a kid and I have been an enthusiast ever since. What a fabulous ride!
😂
Hey it’s nice to see that you visited my home park 😁😁😁
I got to go to this park from Winnipeg on a highschool band trip LOL. It was so exciting to me!!! The OG Batman was my first ever invert !!
On the day i went, Maxx Force had two train operations which was sick
Love Great America.. It's my other home park.
I hope you bought the national flash pass for this year.
Spent the whole night yesterday re-watching your European trip vlog. Can’t wait for you to go back there again.
It’s going to be awesome 👏🏻
Great video and great Vlog! I'm really looking forward to the Mt Olympus vlog! Nice collection of coasters! Now when you do a top hyper coaster list again you can include Raging Bull.
Raging Bull was fantastic! Not at the bottom of my B&M Hyper Coaster list either.
@CoasterDash Yeah I'm sure the B&M hyper coaster list is full of great coasters!
Hell yeah I was excited for this one
Gotta hit that like and comment before I even start. Now to sit back and enjoy the watch!
Always appreciate the love 🙏🏻
Niiiice! Home park here and happy you got to visit, such a good park.
Glad you enjoyed this park! I hope I can get to it soon. It’s my last major six flags park to hit
@20:29 Yay! Go team Goliath! #teamgoliath 😊
I really like the style of these vlogs! Happy you went to SFGAm! Would be interested to hear your rankings. Keep it up, excited for your Europe trip again!
There was a season they put it backwards was a really fun experience great America is my home park I live in lake county ill
no way I was there the same day as you.. never saw you tho cause i was at dennys when you got to the park LOL, glad you had fun tho
this was the best way to get you Hi love 😍 😍
It seems that with a flash pass the park could be done in one day and all the major rides and coasters could be done, did it feel that way or did you have to rush around? I'm planning a trip this summer
It was pretty easy with Flash Pass, though it doesn’t work with Maxx Force, so ride it directly after park open and just before park close as well.
One time i went and there was a thunder storm and it took me three hours to get to the end of the line at the goliath
5:47 We need to find this ride op 🤣
Always wanted to visit here! Nice! Also did I hear someone throwing up at 12:18? 😂😭
This ride is my favorite at the park! Who was freaking out at the back of you? Lol.
That bobsled ride was rolling thunder. First coaster I ever rode.
Wow! How Convenient! I was supposed to go the same exact same day with my summer camp, but we didn't go and instead went on Wednesday due to rain. Just shows that my counselors were kind of stupid. [X Flight is my favorite] 👍👍👍
They need a giga. Something long since so many of their coasters arent.
Maybe in our dreams 🥲
doubt it, im pretty sure they have a height limit because of how close ohare airport is
Great video as always. Glad you got to experience SFGAm, my favorite park in the chain. And Raging Bull is by far my favorite B&M hyper. I much prefer the twister layout over airtime, which is overrated. Rides like Diamondback at KI and Goliath at SFOG just bore me.
Back seat of Raging Bull is my 6th favourite coaster after 5: Millennium Force; 4: Behemoth; 3: Diamondback; 2: Fury 325 and 1: Steel Vengeance.
FINALLY!!!!!
Great America is awesome that wether delay sucks though I went years ago and the wether delay never affected me kinda weird that happened … X Flight when it was new used to be much smoother the rattle has gotten worse since… Me personally I also think Ranging bull is my personal favorite at the park but that doesn’t mean Goliath isn’t awesome..
i’m going in two weeks, i’m so excited! any tips, tricks, or info i should know before going?
Hey there,
Definitely ride Maxx Force right at open and right at close.
And you're right. this midwest region has an ungodly amount of wing coasters lol
I remember when they were still the hot new thing, once we hit like mid to late 2010s being like "wait... somehow I've ridden like all of the B&M wing coasters in the whole US XD"
And I agree, Goliath has one of the best Zero G stall. i dont understand why few of the newer ones end up with as great of a stall. They'll last very short, or the twist the wrong way which forces an earlier twist out of it. (wildcat shouldve twisted clockwise so it could twist out later into the right hand turn)
You probably mean Viper, not python. Python is mot at this park.
Going for the first time next weekend, can't wait. Hopefully the crowds are low
Have a great visit! Flash Pass is highly recommended.
@@CoasterDash I will definitely consider. I am going by myself, Which coasters had single rider lines?
I actually prefer Maxx Force in the last row. It`s more intense back there to me. Also, ACE confirmed the launch to be 0-78 mph in 1.7 seconds. Of the two RMCs I`ve ridden-Goliath and Outlaw Run- I prefer Goliath. It`s elements feel more powerful to me even though Outlaw Run has more elements. But everyone`s opinions will vary and that`s what makes this hobby so great!
For me it doesnt matter the ride, i want to be as far behind the center of gravity as possible. Cuz even on maxx force once im at the top of the hill, i wanna feel like im being yanked down
The back row is more intense. Therefore, it's more fun.
Ride closures all depend on if there’s lightning in the area
There wasn’t any lightning, which is what confused me
Lol you got a video of me getting trained at American eagle what a coincidence
I’ve only ever seen Maxx Force down because of the launch
I can’t wait to go again
I had to wait 30 minutes to get on joker
The whizzer was my first coaster n back in 85
