As a percussionist, I love this percussion shorts, because it gives the public the opportunity to watch what the percussion is doing in really interesting parts of a particular piece of music, watching concerts on DVD or television, the camera crew of the concerts does not focus very much on percussion especially in the real important parts that tend to be, spectacular. I wish this issue was fixed by camera crews or camera crew directors, when filming live classical music concerts....
Size of the orchestra (a lot of brass & timpani shots), loudness & quietness, length, tonal, and expressions. As he said, "A symphony must be like the world, it must embrace everything". E P I C
And Sibelius said to Mahler, 'You're taking the piss mate, mine finished before your 2nd movement even started and I've had a few pints and a kebab by now!'
You must keep in mind that this brings to a close the longest symphony in the standard repertoire. At almost 100 minutes this is pretty good for an ending. Handel ended Messiah with a 5 minute Amen.
Thank you for this epic shot bruh. I've been dying to find an opportunity to perform this piece, I can't imagine how amazing the experience must've been, especially as a percussionist!
Technique on the rolls is really great! I’d argue you might even be rolling a little too fast for not playing on the highest timpani tho. Sometimes playing constant quick notes doesn’t give the timpani enough space to resonate for a smoother sound even at high volumes. Just my opinion tho. Great video!
ooo two close calls, not more than a measure or couple notes, so I'm impressed as heck esp if you can't sightread and practice the whole thing at home before the first rehearsal on account of instrument size 🤭
for a first rehearsal, this is a very high level!! well done! does the conductor tell you when to play on the outer parts or inner part of the timpani sometimes for the effect? I know Mahler loved adding those details.
Legend says the orchestra is still playing that final chord to this very day
real
It's virtually impossible to have 2 timpani players striking their drums exactly together as you can clearly hear.
It's as virtually impossible to have two flutes play in tune together.
In the performance we can play together😀

Agree!!!
Or baseline
real percussionists don't sit
@@HaydndoesbmxI never sit when I play timpani, but man if I was playing an entire Mahler symphony I’d have a comfy chair right behind me at all times…
@@lukeheichlinger7810 I have played at different bands since then where I have longer songs but I can agree with you

OMG
Lol!
That was incredibly accurate for real!!! 😯 they hit most of them at the same time
I think that's the longest ending I've ever seen

@@jgesselbertywell, messiaen turangalila symphony too is looong
You havent heard many then
Oh lord, it just keeps going!
Each of Mahler's symphony is the most epic and most beautiful symphony ever written
A day without Mahler is like a day wasted.
How beautiful harmony and unison are!!! I clap my hands together!!!
The dramatic flourishes and consistent high stick heights made this so entertaining to watch
So mahler falls into the category of compsoers who don't know how to just stop.
frrrrrr bro I was screaming...JUST STOP. STOP NOW. PIECE OVER 😭
@@glitched2797 After listening to 100+ minutes of music, I think it's a great way to end a long ass piece haha
@@michaelwidjaja3992 long ass ending for a long ass piece! Lol 😆
King of epic music, up there with Bruckner.
Yep. My British stepfather said the exact same thing. Haha
its the song that NEVER FUCKING ENDS
It's Mahler, what did you expect? It's also his longest symphony at ca 100 minutes.
Love the contrabass clarinet just sticking out
For a first rehearsal that was impressively close.
literally every timpani player's dream
First(!) rehearsal and this perfect. Incredible
They add such drama to the music and those young men do it soo well!!!!🎇🎇🎇💕
These guys were nearly locked in...on the FIRST rehearsal!!! 💯
Thank you for this epic shot bruh. I've been dying to find an opportunity to perform this piece, I can't imagine how amazing the experience must've been, especially as a percussionist!
Perfect sync and never out of time or rhythm! Goodness!
I don’t understand what I am watching, but I like it! Good job for these two!
Might just be my favorite instrument to play.
Magnifique!!
That guy was put some ✨razzle dazzle ✨ into his performance
They must have good peripheral visions and/or excellent hearing to either notice each other hand's movement or the drumming sound. Wonderful job.
It's more likely just counting. All though they seem to disagree on a few rests.
BRAVO!!!!!!
Excellent playing. Very enjoyable. In sync.
Finale speciale, veramente Regale
20 yrs a go i'm playing this part
This was Satisfying to watch ✨
Phenomenal! You must have had a hard time practicing
Yeah😂
As someone coming from Hayden, Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven's classism everytime I hear Mahler Im like, just end it already!!! 😫😄
In the context of a 2 hrs symphony this ending is about right
Goosebumps
The piece that ends on your ride home.
Beautiful ❤️
Amazing!!!! This is must have been so challenging. Also, they match their tone and dynamics very well
it just keeps going on. Every time I think it's going to end it somehow continues on

Mahler 3rd is so good
このラストのティンパニ連打まで100分かかるんだぜこの交響曲
That had more suspense then any movie I have watched this year. 😂
My third favorite instrument, and would love to play it.
These kids are talented
Nice rolls, gentlemen!
Thank you🥁
Nice work!!!
Thank you!

So cool bro!!!!!!!
Now while this ending is quite badass, IT NEVER ENDS 😅😂😂
Mahler is sooooo underrated
I think they did a great job!
Thank you very much!
Not bad for first time! 👏🏽 👏🏽
Ayo that contrabassoon 👀
I'm unfamiliar with this piece so I was just waiting for the ending to applaud... but it never came :'))))
Amazing

Amazing😱
Wow
The kid in the white shirt is a little behind the down beat, but not bad for first rehearsal.
Sublime exécution 😍😍😍😍😍
Woooo
🤩
That’s bangin
Mahler doesn't know when to stop
Adidas dude is like "I got this" 🔥👏
Wowww 👏👏👏👏
I literally thought it was looping lol
u guys are perfect combination ever! Twins!?
Racist much! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤭
👏👏👏👏👏
Mahler was such a perfectionist, I don’t think he cares about the difficulty of the two timpani playing unison
This ALMOST loops so well that it would go on, endlessly--- like Wagner 🕑🕒🕓🕔🕕🕖🕗
This would be a VERY funny infinite loop video!
😂😂😂😂😂

i was there on euphonium
Hell yeah
Me the whole time: “what if the sticks fly out of their hands”
Then everyone gets to work on their reflexes and duck
White t shirt was too focused on black. Black is right on time and white is trying too hard to match instead of feeling the tempo
The dude in the white lost focus there for a second when he noticed the camera. Ended up being off beat for at least 2 notes.
for a first rehearsal, this is a very high level!!
well done!
does the conductor tell you when to play on the outer parts or inner part of the timpani sometimes for the effect? I know Mahler loved adding those details.
He said “Timpani it’s 2nd conductor!”
👏👏
i like right side guys action😂😂
It’s me😂😂
@@nithitrujikajorndej oh its you🤣🤣
Gotta have dueling timpani’s.
Since it was his third symphony, I wonder if the ending was a reference to that of Beethoven's third.
