    I am experiencing this problem right now. I have the plant inside, can I go ahead and cut the rosette or should I still wait till its warmer outside? Any help appreciated!!

      With spring right around the corner, go ahead. Or wait until fall.

    what do you do with the pups after they form on the stem?

    • @QueenofSucculents
      @QueenofSucculents  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cut them off flush with the stem, let the raw end callus (dry a day or so) and plant in coarse potting soil so that the lowest leaves touch the soil. Keep out of full sun until anchored by roots.

    What was that succulent type during the intro? Flat leaves with a reddish outine?

    I am a newer succulent collector. I appreciate your videos and have learned so much from you! Thank you Debra. I also recently bought your book Succulents Simplified and I love it! The ID's of your 100 easy grow sucs is very helpful.
    Question: Do you have another source for identifying succulents whether digital or a book in print? I bought Succulents The Illustrated Dictionary and was disappointed in the photo quality and descriptions.

      I just found an app called Plant Snap . You take a pic of the plant and it identifies it . It has worked for me for one succulent so far . It was free , but I think there's a pro version that they'll probably hound you to buy . I just got the app yesterday, so have only used once . Gets great reviews on the App Store. I hope you get it and like it . It's so hard knowing exactly what you're buying if not labeled . Then ya don't know it's specific needs 😊

    Hello Debra, I joined Dick Wrights fb group and posted pics of the beheaded echaveria. Someone stayed that I could cut stems into sections to propogate more plants. Is this correct?

    can you behead succulents during summer? will this give you same results?

    • @QueenofSucculents

      I'd wait until fall.

      1:29 he said when Temps are high so I think end of summer would be best, especially for the new pups. This way they won't get too hot and become burnt or droopy.

    I thought it was best to leave a few leaves on the stem for additional sunlight absorption and nutrients. Then they can be removed once a pup begins to grow. Is this OK for echeveria??

    • @QueenofSucculents
      @QueenofSucculents  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When it comes to large-headed, fancy ruffled echeverias, none of the experts do it, so I'd say no. You do make a good case for it, though.

    • @panicmosem5969
      @panicmosem5969 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@QueenofSucculents I suppose it could be done either way. For instance, an etoliated echeveria has those extra lower leaves so I'll usually leave a few on the stem, and try propagating a couple leaves (which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't). It seems to produce pups more quickly than a bare stem.
      But in the event that you have plenty of sunlight and it hasn't become etoliated, it's just grown to have the longer stem, I do see the point of removing the entire head/leaves. Because of tightly formed leaf positioning, it may be problematic and would not leave enough stem. Plus you would need to remove more leaves which is obviously less desirable.
      So it all depends on the plant and one's preferences. 😁

    • @QueenofSucculents
      @QueenofSucculents  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@panicmosem5969 I'm probably not the best person to advise you on this, being more the reporter than the expert, but doesn't it seem that leaves left on the plant would take energy away from the formation of offsets?

    • @panicmosem5969
      @panicmosem5969 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@QueenofSucculents Yes I understand your point. Still at the same time, the etoliated normally have leaves sparsely positioned throughout the stem and because they have already developed, they aren't using much for growth, but they're more likely providing nutrients for the plant. I think this is a good question next time you are doing another interview like this with a succulent expert. (🤦🏼‍♀️ This DOESN'T mean that YOU are not an expert by any means! 😁)
      I have left leaves on and off the stems and the pup growth outcome has been rather fluctuational. Some have produced quicker than others so it's possibly a species issue. However, I have used 2 etoliated dusty rose echies and the one with the extra 4 leaves produced faster (not by much) but the one without had 1or2 more pups so... 🤷🏼‍♀️
      I like to say that all gardening is simply experimenting and sometimes you strike gold and other times you hit a sewage pipe! 💩

    Hi Debra! I’ve just beheaded my Echeveria Zorro. I know that you get the little rosettes on the stem that are shown in the video, but will the stem ever grow a full sized rosette on the top again? How long will it continue to produce little rosettes for? Thank you!

    • @QueenofSucculents
      @QueenofSucculents  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Rhiannon -- No, the head won't regrow. Offsets will form where old leaves were attached, but how many and over how long a period is a question for someone who has grown 'Zorro'. I'll ask the Wrights.
