    My Arcade 1up ticket was answered immediately, after my counter top Centipede died on day 32. They wanted me to disassemble the whole thing to do troubleshooting. Being on the road, without the technical competency at home, I know have a counter top brick. Good stuff.

    Thank you again for posting. Looks like 2nd gen Partycades are releases on HSN. Pac-Man (4 in 1) and Centipede (4 in 1) for early orders for $199. I just ordered them both. I will get back to you in august when it arrives as to sound and speed. I am sure it will be good since this was an issue on 1st gen.

      Thanks, Alex. Yes, I saw than HSN had snuck out a couple new units. Kind of burns to see the new (refreshed?) unit with 4 games selling for the same price as the busted unit with 3. But that's the plight of the early adopter!

    They sent me a pcb and it works great now. I didn't see a v.02 on it though. Mine didn't have a sticker at all on the chip like it showed in your picture. Might have been removed. Still my partycade works properly now and I am very happy to finally be able to play Galaga running like it should! Hope you get yours fixed soon to. Good luck and great series. This really helped me figure out that I wasn't alone with this issue and what the issue was to begin with. Thanks so much. :D

    Looks more like slowdown than latency, the game is running slower. Latency would be a delay in input, which looks like it has as well.

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be super technical, it turned out to be neither latency nor slowdown (though slowness is the symptom). In one of the videos in this series, I lay out the waveform on screen and show the drop-outs in sound that represent multi-millisecond pauses in the sound. This is consistent with the CPU unable to keep up with the instructions and having little choke points. All of those little pauses add up to seeming slower overall when in reality there are just dozens of little undesired pauses!

    Nice job👍 you gotta go with your conviction. My cousin came to visit me and brought a centipede and Millipede he got somewhere from his switch game. I told him something is wrong i said not real he looked at me like I was wrong. Only those people who grew up playing arcade games in the 80s know better. Some of these downloaded games from the internet are slower than the arcade versions. A long time ago I bought arcade games from the 80s on a CD when playing Galaga it was slow I was frustrated because the aliens were faster I caught on not real.

There are pieces of sticky foil over most of the board on both sides. Finally, The circuit lay out is different than the ones pictured in this video. There are Caps missing and different components than original. Would of posted a pic but I don't have that option. Also went into TEST MODE. It sounds as thought they are doing the right thing and have solved the issue. It does sound odd that the communication back to the customer’s trouble tickets seem to be slow. I have created several trouble tickets asking questions about hardware and got human responses in 2-3 days. The form factor of the Party Cades I really like. It means I could have 3 or 4 of them stacked somewhere and then pull them out and set them up or put them away out of the way vs the large 3/4 scale machines that are an interesting size as well.. but my place is small. So I’m looking forward to the Party Cades assuming the sound issue and latency issues have been solved in the new models with the V2 PCB’s :)

    Thanks for the info. I've had the same horrible customer service problems. No action, and auto responses, as well as new tickets being auto-opened. LOL. All the “10-in-1”’s seem to be newer units so it would appear likely but just curious what you have gleaned from other subscribers and comments. Considering taking the plunge on the pacman or ms. pacman one (can’t find defender at a good price that is not sold out) but I wanted to see if the issue has seemed to be resolved across all the newer ones. Hey Jon this might assist you. I just opened up the 40th-anniversary Arcade 1Up (brown woodgrain side) Pacman 4 game tabletop console and it, unfortunately, is a disappointment. First off there was no way to remove the "sticker" on the play screen all the way without unscrewing the protective screen to get the sticker off at the top :( . Before I unscrewed the cover to remove the rest of the top sticker I noticed a decent scratch right in the middle of the screen....After removing the rest of the top protective cover peeling off which is screwed down no less, (stupid move on A1U) I replaced it. Now in addition to the original big scratch that was on it from the beginning, there's dust you can see under the cover now over the gameplay!!! Sigh. Also, if you are slightly to the left of the screen the colors fade but it doesn't happen from the right. Another reviewer on TH-cam mentioned that issue in his review of his PMan QVC party-cade 8 in 1. The thing that gets me is Arcade 1Up is aware of this and does nothing? The 40th Anniv. tabletop PM was literally just released. I am so bumbed out now about the 8 in 1 I will be receiving soon, worrying about the screen washout from the left as well as now having to return the PacMan 4 in one tabletop Anniv Edition.

    I can't believe that this has been going on for months and the company STILL hasn't responded to you at all. This company charges wayyyy too much for subpar arcade machines and game selections. They want 400 dollars for the tmnt cab when it only has 2 games on it and cheap materials such as the junky joysticks and buttons that feel like their about to break when u use them. If u wanna charge 400 dollars fine, but their needs to be more games per machine, higher quality sticks and buttons, and a light up marquee that is good quality.

    • @simonmcuk
      @simonmcuk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will first need to go to the arcade1up.com website contact section and create a Support Portal account, log in then create a ticket and request a replacement Partycade PCB board. They will require proof of purchase (a photo of the receipt) and some video evidence of the issue, a short cell phone video clip is fine. You can upload and attach these when you create your ticket. They may not always respond immediately, you may need to log back in occasionally to send a reminder. To replace the PCB itself the only tool you usually need is a philip's head screwdriver, but in the case of the partycade you'll also need a knife, I'll explain in a minute. To start off with you unscrew the back panel off, this will include unscrewing the two rubber bumpers located at the bottom of the back cover. Once the back cover is removed you will see a small metallic box screwed to the back of the screen, you will need to unscrew this. You may also see some silver tape holding the box to the back of the screen. I had to cut mine with a knife. One the box is removed, turn it over and you will see the PCB screwed to the inside in each corner plus various small cables attached. You will need to unscrew the PCB and carefully remove all the cables, remembering which cable go to which connector for when you install the new PCB. As you unscrew the PCB board from the box, take note that there is a small ground wire attached to one of the corner screws, make sure to screw this back in the same place when you install the new board. Once the board and cables have been removed, you insert the new replacement PCB board in the box reattach the cables to the connectors, and screw the board back into place, not forgetting to screw the ground wire back in it's original location. Before you reattach the box and back panel you may want to switch on the Partycade to see if it boots up ok. If it does you can go ahead and screw the box the the back of the screen and replace the back panel and screw it back into place. Then your all done.

    Hate to say it but I think they are sticking to their usual methods - and are waiting for 90 days or more to pass from the time these were selling - By waiting they can say the warranty period has passed and sell you the replacement board instead of having to ship them out for free - So would not be surprised if they do not make any public announcement of it being done until at least that long has passed. Good to hear that they have made the update but pretty sad that they are stalling on the repair until after most warranties expire to limit the number of cases they have to ship replacements to.

      The last video in this series shows a step-by-step take-apart, but you can't tell which board you have by looking at it -- they're labelled inconsistently. What you can do is have a look at the version by doing the power-on board test (also seen in that same video). Have a look!

      No. To be very clear again, the "first" version (this one I got) came through the Home Shopping Network. Those are no longer available. The "second" version has not yet been made available for pre-order or purchase, but was shown at a trade show. Obviously, I can't comment on the quality of those since I haven't had my hands on them, but I would hope they use the updated PCB on those.

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Martin. There aren't any commercially-available units at retail that have Pac-Man & DK. Nintendo has mostly stopped licensing its games for use by third parties, and especially not bundled with Namco titles. There are other emulation solutions out there but they tend to cost substantially more than an A1U or similar device.
      And P.S., there are a LOT more great games out there, so don't restrict yourself to just Pac & DK!
