As an Indonesian myself who have been living for 40 years since the rule of the western-aligned President Soeharto to the eastern-aligned President Jokowi, I would prefer Indonesia as a Chinese ally in Southeast Asia. As Indonesian in my views, China is favored more bcs they help us in more than USA nowadays. Also USA political movement in their entertainment (LGBT, Extreme Feminism, Veganism etc.) doesn't land well with majorities of Indonesian. Indonesian is pretty homophobic and not receiving this culture easily. But their entertainment products forcing it so often that make us steer away from it and consuming South Korean, Chinese, Thai, and others. Either Movies, Games, Series, etc. While China doesn't meddle with Indonesia politics. While US offer a tons of transactions but they demand changing too much to their liking and forcing Indonesia to do that isn't pretty realistic to do and by the time is done, USA will benefit more and those transactions already fulfilled by China. Also USA is known to meddling with politics that can cause civil war or riots, it happens to us around 80-90s. While China also have black history in Indonesia G30S and Riots in 1998, it's shown USA is one pouring gasoline to this incidents. But China today arrived just to trade not injecting anything extreme like in 80-90s. So while I aware more Chinese factory and company everywhere in Indonesia, Indonesian accept it easily as it also help their economy. Bcs of our controversial time today in politics and history with USA. No wonder Indonesia steer away from USA. Also Palestine vs Israel is condemned everywhere and Indonesia obviously take the Palestinian side bcs we also suffer the similar fate, religion solidarity and ofc who support wars? While it seems one sided here in Indonesia but it happens bcs USA seems one sided too. Not only Indonesia feeling this. So yeah this further steer away our politics from USA. While USA is the one strengthening military, it more impactful China strengthen economy since it help so many civilians in every job, wealth or positions they are in. So yeah, if USA don't demand too much and try to bend politics in Indonesia this won't happen. And China influence is shown through today modern architecture, facility, electronics, etc. that way affordable and almost as good as USA. Even USA/EU content creators that visit Bali, Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, Bandung, Surabaya, etc. seems to see infrastructure in Indonesia is no joke and some even better than their own country.

As Indonesian in my views, China is favored more bcs they help us in more than USA nowadays.
Also USA political movement in their entertainment (LGBT, Extreme Feminism, Veganism etc.) doesn't land well with majorities of Indonesian. Indonesian is pretty homophobic and not receiving this culture easily. But their entertainment products forcing it so often that make us steer away from it and consuming South Korean, Chinese, Thai, and others. Either Movies, Games, Series, etc. While China doesn't meddle with Indonesia politics. While US offer a tons of transactions but they demand changing too much to their liking and forcing Indonesia to do that isn't pretty realistic to do and by the time is done, USA will benefit more and those transactions already fulfilled by China.
Also USA is known to meddling with politics that can cause civil war or riots, it happens to us around 80-90s. While China also have black history in Indonesia G30S and Riots in 1998, it's shown USA is one pouring gasoline to this incidents. But China today arrived just to trade not injecting anything extreme like in 80-90s. So while I aware more Chinese factory and company everywhere in Indonesia, Indonesian accept it easily as it also help their economy. Bcs of our controversial time today in politics and history with USA. No wonder Indonesia steer away from USA. Also Palestine vs Israel is condemned everywhere and Indonesia obviously take the Palestinian side bcs we also suffer the similar fate, religion solidarity and ofc who support wars? While it seems one sided here in Indonesia but it happens bcs USA seems one sided too. Not only Indonesia feeling this. So yeah this further steer away our politics from USA. While USA is the one strengthening military, it more impactful China strengthen economy since it help so many civilians in every job, wealth or positions they are in.
Last USA seems to struggle in economy and it known widely. Forced tipping culture, underpaid jobs, guns legality, housing problems, homeless, drugs, weird problems coming from nowhere, extremist activism/movements, etc. It's intimidating to us Indonesian to follow USA demand not thinking these issues will carried to Indonesia slowly. Hell even some of them already here but still shy away from public and we can proudly says we did handle these better than USA.
Indonesia is neutral country and still is. So yeah, if USA don't demand too much and try to bend politics in Indonesia this won't happen. And China influence is shown through today modern architecture, facility, electronics, etc. that way affordable and almost as good as USA. Even USA/EU content creators that visit Bali, Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, Bandung, Surabaya, etc. seems to see infrastructure in Indonesia is no joke and some even better than their own country.

US pressuring Indonesia to reject China so that US can have solo monopoly of Indonesia. Remember US is in another continent while Indonesia & China are both in Asia. Common sense dictate US should be out of Asia so as peace & harmonious relation can prosper. While US known for wishy washy foreign policy should be shune from Asia

I mean judging by their economically, their government and the news spreading globally. Do we have to side with the US? No, we don't have to and I don't think we should, Indonesia are a neutral country and it will stay that way. If US didn't liking that Indonesia have business relationship with China it's fine we don't really care about the US pretty much now except the political heated for this few years and it's not even good in the eyes from the local so, yeah.
they both the same china & the us, indonesia should stands on its own, no allies no enemies
in the end of the day indonesia still a non-aligned country, we will always choose our own interests than aligned with either the west or east. in fact these days we use the us for military training and technology and china for economy and infrastructure
I still doubt whether relations between Indonesia and China are still good? considering that in Indonesia itself anti-Chinese sentiment still exists today (not sure how many percent)
