      It's dual cause. Limit journalism (like footage from demonstrations, so they can headline 'hundreds' instead of the actual hundreds of thousands)
      Then it's the weaponization of weapons like in Syria.
      One is totalitarian madness, the other can to a degree be defended.

    I joined Pilot Institute for the 107 training and after watching how messy things were getting, I removed my account from the FAA and gave it up. Even had a gig for real-estate who offered to pay for my investment and provided a new Autel. Took the loss and walked. I have been a hobbyist for years, AMA Club Prez in the past. I have 2 local clubs I have been a member at, One was denied FRIA and the other was Granted FRIA. That hurts the hobby when the biggest club, at their current location 15 years without issues, is DENIED due to location.

      I don't live in the USA but what happens there affects many countries around the world as the local authorities seek to emulate the FAA's moves. I have been in the hobby for many years, building and flying Planes, Helicopters and most recently multirotor's or drones as they seem to be called. It is a real shame that many AMA members left it to their association to defend their rights and now we see what has happened by the lack of pushback from the members around the US. This is not only the situation in the US but also Australia where the hobby is fragmented as a hobby should be. We are not a big institution with the influence to show our politicians that they are killing the future of the aviation industry with their actions and over governance of a hobby that has acted safely for ten's or years. I hope that some how reason can prevail and we can all enjoy flying at our local park or field and just enjoy the hobby and pass on what we have learnt to our children.

Whatever happened to building value in a product to coerce spending money on it. After seeing the little bit of Pilot Institute it's unclear what is offered by them but green screen cartoon, or if I would be interested at all. Is their presenter a salesman, or another interested in character assassination. If the later, Pilot Institute needs to get a mission statement reflecting business growth not politics. How much history is there on lithium battery powered model helicopters? Beyond 20 years ago model aircraft were pretty much confined to what are now called FRIA's. (AMA airfields for instance).

    Ya know I’m a middle age guy and I like to think I’m pretty professional but as a primarily fpv enthusiast, I have to say that commercial sUAS camera drone people throw a lot of shade at FPV pilots. Besides the obvious outliers that we’ve all heard of - and clearly they’re a VERY small part of the community, all the FPV pilots I’ve met and flown with are extremely safety conscious.
    So, as a pilot who has been trying to break into the industrial sUAS side of things all I have encountered is condescending camera drone operators who have no problem personifying their elitism. Not sure why this is the standard but it sure seems to be.
    Great video! This guy Greg looks like he’s a lot fun at parties.

    Yep, don't beat about the bush, if your referring to a person, at least have the decency to name that person or persons. I can think of at least 4 or 5 youtuber's (so called apparently), that have talked about the possibilities of bad actors spoofing RID simply to cause chaos and disruption to the public, so it's not clear who he is referring to. But your spot on about all of these regulations causing a decline in the hobby. Three or four years ago I was always building something, or out flying either one of my planes or one of my drones. It was fun, it was carefree, just so long as i was being sensible i had nothing to worry about. Just good old carefree fun. Now you have to register, take tests, put numbers on all your craft, and now, if your in the US, you have to fit RID. Then, according to the guy in the video you can carry on flying, feeling optimistic that your not going to get an angry karen beating you over the head because she spotted your drone on her app. And believe me, an angry Karen may be the least of your worries when it comes to people using the app to identify where your standing. I am in the UK, so no RID for us (yet), but for the last year my planes have remained hanging from the ceiling, my drones are sitting on the side. The carefree part that I enjoyed so much just does not seem so carefree any more. And of course all the bad press adds to that feeling of not being carefree. A few years ago you could fly your plane or multi-rotor and people would be positive about it, they would show a positive interest. Nowadays your more likely to get someone demanding to know what your doing, and asking how dare you fly that thing around here. The public have been brainwashed into believing your more than likely either up to no good, or your flying in a place your not meant to - regardless of what the laws or by-laws might say.

    • @David-yo5ws
      @David-yo5ws 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      My brain started to think of a story related to an airline, from something in your 'overall' description and about angry Karen.
      The story was that the airline hired an investigator to try and find the source of dis-satisfied clients and boost falling bookings. The investigator got passengers to fill out feed-back forms. He then 'fixed' all their complaints: overhead locker doors that squeaked during flight or did not shut properly, uncomfortable seats, dull coloured furnishings. Food portions too small etc. The result was still falling bookings and still unhappy passengers. The airline hired another investigator. He got flash uniforms for the air hostess's, trained them to smile and speak nice encouraging sentences, to regularly attend to the passengers, engage in light talk, be friendly and polite no matter what the passenger was like. The bookings went up and the airline recovered.
      So I think the 'world' is in an unhappy state. We don't like what is happening. There has been so much disruption to our daily lives and so much disruption with the USA, (that has a flow on effect to the rest of the world) and no sign of future stability. I think the angry Ken and Karen's are just a symptom of the times we are experiencing now. When the 'tide turns' and people get happier and feel safer, you could probably hover a drone over an ex Ken/Karen's head while they sunbathed and they would applaud the cooling of the 'fans' and shading of the sun on their face and love the attention. (Gross exaggeration of course) But you get the idea.
      We just have to identify the 'itch' and treat it as necessary. It's alright to be down. It's not alright to inflict that on to another human being.
      Hope you liked my feedback as much as I enjoyed yours.

    • @thomasmaughan4798
      @thomasmaughan4798 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      "The carefree part that I enjoyed so much just does not seem so carefree any more"
      For me, carefree lasted about a month. I started worrying about helicopters, airplanes and other drones. I worried about the drone falling straight down and hitting someone. One day I was out seemingly in the middle of nowhere contemplating flying my drone, when along the valley came two military fighter jets at nearly the speed of sound and perhaps 100 meters above ground; sort of like your situation at Mach Loop in Wales.
      "your flying in a place your not meant to"
      Not just drones. I am also a photographer and my camera draws rather a lot of attention. This is even more of a problem in UK as you doubtless know.
      So I don't fly for FUN because it mostly isn't. That's a deep regret since most of my life I dreamed of flying; but of course, such dreams do not include other people, other aircraft, other dangers.
      I admire and salute the guys for whom it is still fun.

    We need input both from sides; the (do the right thing within the confines of the rules) types, and the (fight the power) types.
    We don't fight, this won't change. BUT in the meantime many (especially I suspect, those of us with remote pilot certificates) will choose to color within the lines while supporting the others who fight.
    And I believe Greg is using "so called" as an alternate definition which means "as it is named" or "as it's commonly referred to". So in this context a person who posts on TH-cam is a "so called TH-camr".
    It's NOT a pejorative. It's proper English but increasingly becoming an obscure use.
    I have been dinged for this usage before in a paper I've wrote and had to correct the professors.

      Agreed. Courts cannot change a law unless a case is brought before the court, and that means someone must violate the law to trigger the case so that a court can review it. That is reasonable strategy when a good chance exists that the law to be challenged is unconstitutional.
      On the other hand, being the disobedient public during prohibition was risky and maybe not effective when the change to be made is legislative rather than judicial, as is probably the case with drone flying. The powerful interest that wants complete dominance of low altitude airspace is Amazon and drone flyers are the easy scapegoat without much legislative presence. This is where being seen as "responsible" Part 107 certified remote pilot has more clout in Congress. Not a lot, but certainly more (IMO) than a FPV anarchist.

    Risk management uses "The hazard" and "The probability". If the hazard is a very high, it doesn't matter if it is a low probability, it is a high risk.
    The risk assessment on what is claimed these laws are for is Very low hazard and very low probability, somewhere below getting out of bed in the morning.
    Unfortunately if he named them he will be sued for, is it libel, as they are saying that these laws are what the terrorists want.

Come to think about it I don’t recall ever seeing him flying a drone or any UAV Mickey dose not do anything differently than 99.9 percent of drone pilots around the world. I Purchase a drone from you and you tell me that it can fly 15 kilometers away from me then you better believe I am going to try it. Because that’s most likely the reason I spend a thousand dollars on the drone in the first place. My definition of VLOS is anything that I can see with my eyes. I can see the moon. One issue I have with PI is their involvement in the "Drone Advocacy Alliance" - a lobby group in the US sponsored/paid for by DJI to advocate for favorable legislation in the US exclusively for drones made in the People's Republic of China. It's a politically questionable move, and I fear it might be tinged with some less than robust business practices. I hope this is not the case, but I have a suspicion. I know DJI offers incentives like free equipment, equipment discounts, advantageous inside product information, and product promotions to industry leaders/influencers who promote/support DJI. It's not that much different from your typical TH-cam influencer being recruited to promote a manufacturer (often Chinese from PRC) in exchange for free products and cash prizes. When DJI made a significant entry into the US market, they provided free drones to numerous public safety organizations to gain favor and friends, for example.
    At least be honest, Greg, and rename the DAA to "Drones/DJI Drones Made in the People's Republic of China Advocacy Alliance." Additionally, clarify whether DJI or anyone else in the DAA receives anything that could be considered personally or professionally preferential. Greg's technical videos are of high quality, and the classes are quite good as well, however. It seems he might not be up to speed concerning broader political issues, unfortunately.

    • @alacazaba
      @alacazaba 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sUASNewslet's hope I'm wrong and my suspicions are completely without merit. PI generally does provide excellent content, and the company is a big plus to the commerical drone industry. I can deal with a company that has its favorite partner or go to but they need to be a little more clear about it. On top of this, politics is a skill unto itself. The typical business skills including self promotion and behind the scene loyalties can work against one in politics, many businessmen think they'll have a knack for political leadership and insight but it's often a far different outcome. And a danger in the DAA is that the big firms out of China are bound up so tightly with the government and military (not like in the West where they can tell em to take a flying leap), working or advocating for a big Chinese company can essentially lead one to the doing the bidding of the political powerful in China.

    I'm what would be called a so-called youtuber. I have to have a channel in order to leave comments. TH-cam won't let you comment otherwise. Solution would be to have an ADSB radio small and light enough(and cheap enough) to fit on our model aircraft. Call the tower, clear your flight, problem solved. Smalest one would fit on my skyhunter, but it is about $2500.

    I'm actually thinking of letting my 107 expire and goin back to hobby flying since the call for pilots is low anyway, why maintain it. It seems hobby flying in the Us has more levity then the folks who tested anyway. Time for some sub 250 ninja flights

    I don't think Gregg would like me to well so i better hop on over and let him know what i think about his opinion.
    Mr Bruce I have followed you when all this stuff started about Remote ID, I dont post much, but i listen, and NO ONE has a right says squat about what you have done, hell you are helping follks hear in the U.S where I am by giving information on where to at least start to get our voice heard and much more, so thank you.
    Sounds like Gregory is not in this for the Hobby but to make money himself. 🤔
    Maybe folks are getting more pissed because its there Income the Government is screwing with? I do this for fun and because my Daughter loves it and she got 2 of her friends flying as well so we spend the money 🤣 not make it.

      "and NO ONE has a right says squat about what you have done"
      In the United States, everyone has a right to say whatever they want about anyone else. There might be legal consequences in some cases.
