  • Hi !
Today i felt like sharing with you the Yamaha HS7 they now have been around for some time and have somewhat become an industry standard. I just wanted to share my experience with them , and provide my input if any of you wanted to purchase these little gems. i have expressed my concerns for the port chuffing and woofer chatter at louder volumes which where audible to me when i had kick and bass lines secluded from the main mix. I have concluded that they are not your main speakers but your "check" speakers. They have been with me now for over 2 weeks and i can confidently say that they are very good at pinpointing high EQ problems of my mixes and have been a great help with finalising my latest 2 tracks. They did help me put that last bit of sparkle to the mix. Please let me know your experiences with the especially with the low end ..

Was gonna get the HS8 tempted by the 8" woofer but then I realized that HS7 combined with HS8S sub set to 100Hz high cut would give me the best mids and tops from HS7 and perfect tight bass with HS8S. This combo is pretty close to my NS1000M speakers. Yamaha is not harsh, its revealing all details so with bad recording it will sound likewise.

6.5 inch with the sub is perfect btw, by themselves you're right they do lack low-end buss. Combine it and youre winning

I dont think these are bad speakers, but i find them fatiguing. Must have the high cut enabled. I find the entire frequency range to be smeared together and harder to pick out details compared to my yamaha MSP10. I find HS7 enjoyable to listen to however, with the high cut. They have fairly deep bass, but lack some low mids. They sound much better after break in. I had to tighten the speaker rings due to some buzzing and rattling. I adjusted each screw and listened for noise to disappear

As I replied to MrAdammasacre, 38cm from front wall, 87cm from side walls, in a 4.20m x 3.20m 2.40cm tall room, the bass is really really good and so powerfull, also having a second sweetspot 3 meters back, there you can hear I believe below 43hz...You also need huge basstraps in both corners, otherwise the bass will self distruct by the room resonance, if no bass traps - no bass! Actually my first impression when played music on them was, oh no, they are so weak, I want the BASS...but now I can say they are monsters, just let them find their place, remove everything from the room and start, they are super sensitive to where they are.I didn't liked the HS5 and HS8, they didn't follow good ratio of power/speaker size.I believe the expirience since releasing the HS series lead to the successfull HS7's in 2015.It's unique studio monitor and they will not change soon.Good luck, do the math, and they will blow the bass in your face believe me.

@fu J great size for hs8 or hs7, no sub, use more basstraps from bottom to the top corners, they improve the sound more than only wall diffusion.good luck mate, size is ok.

Yamaha got rid of 1khz eq dip switches for their newer models -- don't know what their engineers were thinking

you need to drop the 4k by about 2 to 2.2db, after that winner :)

I have the krk Rokits 7g4 and i like them and don't know if I should exchange them and get the Yamahas.

i have not used KRK's so i cant give you an honest opinion. i do however, still have my presonus and since have sold the yamaha's. Something was odd about the yamahas. They were over bright and just didnt suite my ears, all of this is very subjective, just have a listen and see what you like

The person who had them before you probably play them at their max level and blew the internal amps or speakers

I have not heard the hs80m , so can’t put my 5 cents on the subject

I once had the HS80m and when I switched to Adam A7X after 3 years, I saw how muddy the HS80m sounded for mixing. Don‘t know the newer ones, but I would never recommend these cheaper Yamahas to anybody. Better paying a little more for better speakers. Now I switched from the Adams to Neumann KH310 and this is just another level.

Umm, no. A speaker for mastering should be able to deliver undistorted and even sound from 20 hz to 20 khz at room moving volumes. It is literally impossible without a 3 or 4 way system.

What could I use to connect these speakers to my smartphone using bluetooh? Is there a very simple bluetooth receiver with a 3.5 mm jack from a good manufacturer?

    • @santiagorestrepo9504
      @santiagorestrepo9504 ปีที่แล้ว

You could use a bluetooth receiver and connect that to each speaker. Or you could do what I did and buy a dac with an integrated bluetooth receiver and do the same thing.

What about the KRK? They have better lowend for techno, house etc?

yes correct. But they translate like shit for mixing. When you mix on a "boomy" speaker, the stuff you create will also translate boomy. The only purpose of speakers like the HS7 is to get the sound very tight in all areas, especially focusing in the mid range. The HS7 are not in particular for creating and producing. More for final checks. You also have to know how things sound on speaker like the HS7 and also on other audio-media
