Sleep Token was beaten by LOVEBITES as best new band by Metal Hammer in 2018, LOVEBITES received the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award! 🤘

And that was the last year those awards were given out.
This song was actually on their first album released back in 2017 and the video was released then as well. The reason it's showing it's uploaded 2 years ago is they re-released it without an ad promo for their tour at the time they had seamlessly added into the video itself. Asami, the vocalist, does sing in all English as she prefers those from Japan to think of her vocals as another instrument and then once translated from English to realize how deep the lyrics are. The two guitarists are world class, one also is a concert pianist. And as for the star cymbals you mentioned, Haruna made those out of old "retired" cymbals used as more of a decorative piece that just stuck with her from her previous bands. If you enjoy this song, you'll definitely be on a ride as all of their music is amazing.

Much like the Steelers defenses these petite musicians who wear their femininity proudly in heels and gowns are relentless in chasing perfection. This is the song that started the Wolfpack(fanbase) for many of us. However, you still haven't experienced this band!!! LIVE is where they thrive and they electrify the venue like few others. Insanely talented who play a mix of various genres and sub genres and even include classical influences and even a few ballet steps to boot. Lovebites' songs are all 100% in English (with the exception of one track). The lead vocalist has a powerful and broad mezzo-soprano range with a strong accent. This "Shadowmaker" MV was actually released back in 2017. They had a promotional/advertising break in the middle of the MV and they removed that portion and re-uploaded the MV in 2022.
The video is from 2017 and their first album. As someone already mentioned, they beat out Sleep Token for best new band of 2018 in Metal Hammer magazine. This also led to them becoming the first and only all-female Japanese band to play Wacken.
LOVEBITES is a five-piece all-female, Japanese heavy metal band with deep musicianship (plus classical music/piano background). They transcend gender, genre, and geography, with some 60 songs in their discography. They won Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best New Band (2018), toured with Dragonforce (2019), first female Japanese band to perform at Wacken Open Air (Germany) and others in Europe, and are unusual among Japanese bands in choosing to sing in English plus good lyrics (a daunting task for native Japanese speakers).

Lovebites fans get called The Wolfpack because the Lovebites symbol is a lone wolf, due to the whole being metal but wearing white, positive lyrics generally, feminine vibes etc. I don't refer to myself as that as a fan because fandom names just so happen to cringe me out personally XD
Of their roughly 55 song catalogue, around 40 are in my "Favourite songs ever" playlist, which is ridiculous, I have never added that many songs from a single band before, let alone one that has only been around for about 7 - 8 years, with some of that being on hold due to covid, it's insane.
If you want some power metal, speed metal, thrash metal, kinda symphonic metal, occasional hard rock / lighter metal, very rare bit of cheesy 80s synth metal, metal ballad, then Lovebites have you covered within their catalogue. Plus the best Painkiller cover as a bonus.
And Asami has at least 5 different persons lungs in her.
The band formed in 2016 and the Shadowmaker music video was done in 2017. It had advertising in the video that was later removed. Videos from 2018 till now are more elaborate in their presentation. They have performed in some of the large festivals including Wqcken and Bloodstock and will be starting a world tour this month. The US is not very aware of this great band due to poor promotion.
Their new outfits are even more elegant with gold added to the white. They wanted to look elegant, not cute.

The video is actually much older than 2022, but in 2022 the original video was replaced because it included a promotional break for their 2018 album and tour (you can still see it in older reaction videos of the song). The band was formed in 2017, and their rise was seriously interrupted during the pandemic - like that of so many other bands (The Warning anyone?).
The musicianship and technical skills of these women are second to none in this world. Their outfits and looks are something of a trademark fringe phenomenon - if that makes any sense. Other than that, this band is all about the music, not about being cute or sexy. Miyako, the guitar player with the Dean USA, is - in her free time - a performing concert pianist.
They say that, but they are cute and sexy. So there is no getting around it. 😉

Or do you think Fami would be the new bassist if she had my bass skills (I have some, but surely far from pro level). There are a lot of cute and sexy bands out there. Most of them are crap - and I for one don't listen to them.

Lovebites are a five piece all female Japanese metal band. They take much of their inspiration from the British and European metal bands of the 70's and 80's such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. One of the founding members, Miho, is a big fan of Steve Harris of Maiden. They were formed in 2016 by Miho and Haruna, who had both been members of an earlier band, Destrose, which broke up in 2015. The first female Japanese band to play the Wacken open air festival in Germany. Also played Bloodstock in the UK and other festivals around Europe. In 2019 they toured the UK with Dragon Force, and opened for Arch Enemy in China.
This video is from very early in the bands existence, one of the first, if not the first, they released.
The members are,
Asami, Vocals and Piano. She trained as a Ballet Dancer and before Lovebites was a R&B singer. Writes many of the lyrics and sings in English. (Some people, most often Americans it seems to me, do struggle with Asami's Japanese accent and pronunciation. If you take time to get use to it, it becomes easier to understand. As an English person, I don't have too much trouble following her)
Midori, Guitar. Playing the white guitar in this video. Since this video was made she has taken on an 'Amazon Warrior' stage persona with blond hair. She is a body builder and has scored highly in competitions.
Miyako. Guitar, Piano and Keyboards. The one with long black hair. A classically trained pianist, she composes much of the bands music, often incorporating themes from classical music.
Both guitarists play lead, swapping back and forth lead and rhythm. Their harmonised solos are a wonder to behold.
Haruna, Drums. Nicknamed 'Little BIG Engine' due to her diminutive size, 1.4 meters tall, and her relentless speed and precision over concerts that can be up to near two hours long. The star cymbals are a 'trade mark' of Haruna's that she brought with her from Destrose.
Miho, Bass Guitar. Co founder along with Haruna, Miho left the band in 2021 due to personal reasons. The band then went on hiatus until they recruited a replacement in 2022 in the form of the then 20 year old Fami.
Fami has her own YT channel with nearly 700,000 subs. Today, 1st June, is her birthday.
When asked about the white stage costumes by a French magazine, Asami said, 'We are girls, we don't want to dress like boys. Also we are all small, and white makes us easier to see on stage'.
A few recommendations for further listening. Holy War, Thunder Vengeance, M.D.O., Winds of Transylvania (written for a crazy Japanese Anime series Vlad Love) Frozen Serenade, Edge of the World, Epilogue, Swan Song with Chopin introduction played by Miyako.
Whatever you choose, if you enjoyed this, I don't think you will be disappointed. I regard Lovebites as one of the best bands I have heard in nearly 60 years of listening to rock and metal.
The fanbase is referred to as the Wolfpack cuz every album has either one or multiple wolves on the cover and that's their mascot, similar to how Megadeth has Vic Rattlehead and Iron Maiden has Eddie. The guitarists are Miyako(also a phenomenal classical pianist) and Midori, also known as M&M, the greatest guitar duo of all time imo. The drummer Haruna and now former bass player Miho, the bass player in this video, started the band in 2016 after being in another all female band called Destrose. The vocalist Asami never sang rock or metal before joining the band and she has a background in gospel, R&B, soul, and pop music. Frozen Serenade is a power ballad of theirs that shows a completely different side of what they can do from this song but their whole catalog is fantastic, so I would recommend going down the rabbit hole.

❤️LOVEBITES❤️ was formed in 2016 by Miho(Ba) and Haruna(Dr), members of the band "DESTROSE", which went on hiatus in 2015.
The girls made their major label debut in 2017 (March 24) with "THE LOVEBITES EP".
On 18 June 2018, LOVEBITES won '🏆BEST NEW BAND' at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2018 awards organised by the British metal magazine METAL HAMMER.
On 4 August, LOVEBITES performed on the W.E.T stage at WACKEN OPEN AIR 2018, one of the world's largest annual metal festivals in Germany, with the 10,000 capacity venue almost full.
"Bloodstack open air 2018(Aug. 10)" also participated.
On August 20,2018, LOVEBITES announced that it has partnered with X-ray Touring, one of the largest players in the UK booking agent industry.
LOVEBITES toured the Netherlands, Germany, France and UK from November 13-21, 2018.
Asami (Vo) of LOVEBITES appeared as a guest on stage at Halestorm "Download Japan 2019(March 21)", singing alongside "Lzzy" Hale on Halestorm's 'Love Bites', which gave the band their name.
LOVEBITES performed as a support band for "Arch Enemy's China tour at the Shanghai show on March 23 and the Beijing show on March 24, 2019".

Agree, for the most part music in the USA is crap, especially rock and metal. I went to Japan and Europe to listen to that genre. Midori and Miyako (M&M) are the best guitar duo in metal today. What lovebites have is VERY BAD marketing: VICTOR (JVC) has been doing very bad promotion of the band since the beginning.
People have been asking for the band to have concerts in the USA for years... but they haven't just done a proper tour. his year it seems that they will have their first concerts (we will see how many).
In Europe they did have them before COVID, and in a few days they will start another one at festivals and metal venues. (I'll see them at Resurrection Fest along with Baby Metal and many other bands)

"To regard with ardent or adoring esteem or devotion." which accurately describes my feeling for Haruna, for her unique drumming talent as well as her persona as an empowered & gentle soul, as precious as any BRUTAL Metal drummer that has ever existed! Listening attentively will reveal Haruna's elaborate cymbal-fills/accents that are 'pitched' such to support the chords & vocal melody. Her dbl-kick work is unsurpassed & stamina to perform 2 hour shows mostly at this tempo.
As a drummer myself, unique in my listening experience.
I recommend songs with [cc] lyrics to familiarize yourself with Asami's voice & you will find her quite understandable. Always all songs in English.
These are all sophisticated women.

Thanks for reacting to amazing Lovebites and spreading the word; they deserve more recognition. These women are extremely talented, skillful and versatile exceptional musicians. They really shine in their live performances. Their main influences are Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Helloween, Angra, Judas Priest, Dragonforce, and even Gary Moore, but they have been developing their unique style. Some people say that they’re redefining metal. Miyako is also a concert-level classical pianist. Asami used to sing R&B, soul and jazz before she joined Lovebites. Those twin lead guitar solos by Midori and Miyako are already legendary, in just seven years. Some of their songs are uplifting, with a motivational message.
Unfortunately Miho (bass) left the band in August, 2021, but in October 2022 the band announced the new bass player, Fami; so now they’re ready to set the world on fire. In an interview, Miho (ex bassist) said that they wanted to play as heavy as men but keeping their femininity. My next suggestions are “Thunder vengeance”, “The hammer of wrath”, “Break the wall”, “Set the world on fire”, “Above the Black Sea”, “Under the red sky”, “Scream for me”, “When destinies align”, “Raise some hell”, “Don’t bite the dust”, “Winds of Transylvania”; and for a different side of them: "Chopin Etude + Swan song”, “Empty daydream”, “Edge of the world”, “Epilogue”, “Glory to the world”, “Frozen serenade”, "Liar", "Spellbound". In some shots, the lighting is deliberately set so that it shines into the viewer's eyes. So that there is no visual clarity. The MV is specially made a little “blurry” (Shadows). Why? I know you haven't seen enough to really appreciate them yet, but in terms of pure musicianship, LOVEBITES are comfortably in the top three metal bands on the planet - along with Dream Theater and Symphony-X (two American Prog Metal bands). My claim is that in terms of pure collective MUSICIANSHIP, LOVEBITES comfortably sits in the top three metal bands. To avoid writing an essay to justify my claim, I'll make the following two points:
* One method of determing which band (of two being compared) has superior musicianship, is to ask the hypothetical question, could each band play the other band's most difficult song? Using this criterion, there are only two metal bands I'm aware of that could play the following LOVEBITES song (i.e Dream Theater and Symphony-X). "Swan Song (with Chopin Intro)." th-cam.com/video/dcMVtrvpJpk/w-d-xo.html This would require John Petrucci (if we're talking Dream Theater) to record the second guitar onto a track, but that is fair enough, because Miyako (from LOVEBITES) records piano on track to play while she is playing the guitar.
* Once you've watched some of their live performances, you will see for youself their level of technical proficiency. I'm not a musician myself, but I've watched more than a thousand reactions to LOVEBITES songs over the last 3 years or so, and perhaps one quarter of them are from professional musicians (even from bands as famous as Guns 'n Roses, Skid Row etc.), music teachers, voice coaches and other industry professionals who know what they're talking about. Without exception, these reactors have spoken extremely positively about the level of technical proficiency LOVEBITES members have. Again, you will see for yourself when you watch their live videos.

Miyako, one of the guitarists is also a "concert level" pianist, so she is as good as Jordan Rudness (and that is saying something, because he is incredible - but check the link I've already given you to see for yourself). Fami, the new LOVEBITES bassist is a very skilled technical bassist. Yes, as I'm sure you know anthony, there is a troll well known for infesting the comments sections of reactions to Lovebites and other Japanese bands. It seems to be one individual who uses multiple names and accounts to post abusive and/or divisive comments, attempting to cause argument and bad feeling between fans of, for example, Lovebites v Band Maid v Hanabie. Whereas in point of fact, more often than not, if you like one of these bands, you are very likely to like at least some of the music of them all. It’s definitely not as popular in the United States… I agree with you, mainstream music in the US is awful. I’m not confident that Lovebites, as great as they are, will be as popular in the US. It’s like you have to be a horrible band in the US to be a successful band. The narrow mindset of today’s listeners will prevent, Lovebites from becoming the biggest band in the world. It’s such a shame, the majority of the American music fan base have no clue what a great music/band is.
This band is the best thing I’ve heard in about 30-35 years…. Rarely do they make a bad song! I mean not all songs are great, but about 85% of their songs are better than anything going today. But that’s just my opinion, obviously!

very well noticed: the "shadowmaker" video came out 2017, their second video. it had an ad in the middle of the video. in 2018 they won metal hammers award as "best newcomer". this version is the same video, but without the ad.

Singer Asami's (100%) English is sometimes not easy to understand, but after some time, you'll manage that. The reasone for her strange pronunciation (she lived for some years in the US, her casual English is much clearer/don't want to say better!) is a very peculiar one: She uses her voice as an instrument! So the sound is much more important than audibility or grammar! Some (also live) videos have English subtitles, which makes it easier, but expect 100% English (except for 1 out of 55 songs from their debut EP, that *also* exists in full Japanese, BTW an awesome version!)... and "whirled_peace" is very busy posting lyrics, just wait for it!
All in English…you are in for a treat. These ladies are on a par with The Warning and Band Maid, different flavour but they are totally awesome. Check out Swan Song with Chopin intro,!Soldier Stands Solitarily, Frozen Serenade, Judgement Day, Glory to the World. Like BM and the Warning go for the official live performances, they are superior to the recordings, maybe with the exception of SSS so far….

Some call it Eclectic Metal, it's LOVEBITES' own style, a mix of different HM styles, Power, Speed, Symphonic, Thrash, NWOBHM, etc., up to Hard Rock (even Punk and Classic). They have well known influences from 80s and 90s HM, and own them by doing their own thing.

@@rainerzufall42 Not really. Take this song for example. It sounds _a lot_ like “Wolf and Raven” by Sonata Arctica. I love LOVEBITES, but for the most part, they’re not doing anything new. That’s why in these recent concert fan videos 90% of the audience is a bunch of middle-aged guys; they were almost certainly fans of power and/or thrash metal before LOVEBITES came along. LOVEBITES does what they do very well, but they’re not innovating. Ever wonder why Babymetal and Wagakki Band got so big so fast? It’s because they gave the world something new. Ever wonder why so many musician reactors focus on BAND-MAID? It’s because the maids craft diverse songs that have little unexpected twists in them. LOVEBITES, in Miho’s own words, plays the music a lot of people grew up listening to. They do it well, but they’re not breaking any new ground.

This video is actually from 2017 from their debut album. Their earliest videos were released with ad placements in the middle (an anti-piracy tactic), and those videos were re-released in 2022 with the ad placements removed. Also, LOVEBITES sings entirely in English. Over the course of four original studio albums and three EPs of original material, they only have one song in Japanese ("Bravehearted" from their first EP), and even that was re-recorded in English for their debut album.
This music video was actually made in 2017 their first year. It came with an advertisement in the middle of it. So in 2022 they removed the outdated ad and uploaded it again making it seem like it was made in 2022 which it wasn't. So in 2017 their budget was a a lot smaller.

The band was formed in 2016 by original bassist Miho and drummer Haruna. Their first EP and album came out in 2017. So far LOVEBITES have released 4 albums, some Singles/EPs and also a bunch of DVD/Blu-ray live recordings.
Back in 2018/2019 LOVEBITES have already toured in Europe, including appearances at the major metal festivals as Wacken, Download, Bloodstock, Graspop. In 2018 they also won the Metal Hammer UK Golden Gods Award for best new band.
Then came covid, their original bass player and founder Miho quit the band for personal reasons and two babies were born. After a break LOVEBITES came back with new bassist Fami and new song „Judgement Day“ in late 2022. A new album with the same title came out in February 2023.
This year in June LOVEBITES‘ first world tour starts in Europe. In September they will play their biggest headline show ever in Tokyo (8,000 seats). After that LOVEBITES will have their US debut …

This video was their very first major release back in 2017. Their live videos are next level. They can play at these speeds with absolute precision. Their songs are very melodic and well written. I would suggest listening to The Hammer of Wrath.

Great stuff! I'm not the biggest speed metal fan cause, for me, too much of it sounds the same and I walk away with "through the fire and flames" stuck in my head. But that's more the fault of the genre than the musicians, imo (same with rockabilly). As always a great reaction!

Lovebites sings only in English, it's the accent in the pronunciation that made you mistake it for being Japanese.
Excellent choice for first time listening Lovebites. It's an earliest song, and it's a powerful one. For another reactions I'd suggest: Hammer or wrath; Thunder vengeance; Set the world on fire.

At the time, they had been a 'Band' for less than a year. They lost their original bassist and co-founding member *Miho* in 2021 and went on hiatus for almost 2 yrs (because *Miyako* (guitar) and *Asami* (vocals) went on Maternity leave. All Lovebites lyrics are written and sung in English. They mostly write their own music: Miyako writes about half, and Asami writes almost all of the lyrics. Founded in 2016, this is their second OMV from 2017, so that they could play it 2018 at Wacken W-O-A (Germany) and Bloodstock B-O-A (UK). They've toured in 2019 with DragonForce in the UK and have a lot of live albums. After a Covid hiatus in 2021/2022, the came back with a new young bassist last year. She just turned 22 today (Fami).
