SASR: The Special Air Service Regiment, officially abbreviated SASR though commonly known as the SAS, is an elite special operations force of the Australian Army. Formed in 1957, it was originally modelled on the British SAS sharing the motto, "Who Dares Wins", and draws on the experiences of Australian Services Reconnaissance Department, independent companies, Coastwatchers and M and Z Special Units during World War II. Based at Campbell Barracks, in Swanbourne, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, the regiment is a direct command unit of the Special Operations Command. It has been involved in operations in Borneo during the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation, the Vietnam War, Somalia, Kuwait, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as many other peacekeeping missions. It also provides a counter-terrorist capability, and has been involved in a number of domestic security operations.
Commandos: The name commando has been applied to a variety of Australian special forces and light infantry units that have been formed since 1941-42. The first Australian "commando" units were formed during the Second World War, where they mainly performed reconnaissance and long-range patrol roles during Australia's campaigns in New Guinea and Borneo, although other units such as M and Z Special Units, performed more clandestine roles. These units were disbanded following the end of the war, however, later, when in the 1950s it was realised that there was a need for such units again in the Australian forces, other units were formed with more defined special forces roles. Today, the Australian Army possesses a number of units that perform more conventional direct-action type commando roles, as well as counter-terrorism response, long-range patrolling, and clandestine deep-penetration operations.
TAG: The tactical assault groups (TAG) are military counter-terrorism units in Australia. At present there are two tactical assault groups based on opposite sides of the country. As such they are individually identified as being either TAG East, based in Sydney or TAG West, based in Perth. Both groups are structured to conduct offensive domestic counter-terrorist operations focusing on direct action and hostage recovery.
Each assault group maintains a short notice capability to conduct military operations beyond the scope of State and Federal Police Tactical Groups. These aims are achieved through various highly specialised skill sets, niche capabilities and supporting Australian Defence Force (ADF) units such as those from the Special Operations Engineer Regiment and 171st Aviation Squadron.

Vietnam War - North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong talking about the Australian and New Zealand SAS: The only unit of armed forces we feared were the SAS, We called them 'The Phantoms of the jungle', because we would go out on patrol and our soldiers would just disappear.
ANZAC'S - 'Respect Forever'
The Vietnam one is true with the exception of South Korean soldiers, they were one of the most feared by the Viet Cong because they would charge straight in with knifes after running out of ammo, had extremely high kill ratios, and they also were the longest staying force, the US left Vietnam before South Korea. After the Korean war South Koreans were so thankful to the US and allied forces for helping them that they felt they owed the US a favor in return, so many people volunteered in SK to go fight in Vietnam that they had too many numbers applying and was hard to pick who to choose. I agree with all your statements, I just thought I would add that in. The SASR were definitely highly feared by the Viet Cong I recall reading something that they said they don't fear the Americans they feared the SASR because they made groups of Viet Cong disappear
