Man I can't tell ya this old 22 squirrel hunting addict I am enjoying this channel sooooo much haven't been able to walk in 3 yrs and it make me happy to watch
Thanks for taking the time to comment. It does my heart good to bring some enjoyment to viewers like you. Squirrel season starts in August here in Tennessee, so stay tuned. God willing, I should have some more small game content coming soon.
You got a winner there. I’ll bet that guy you beat out on that auction is crying. That was a lot of fun sitting up with you on the phone on that auction. Great job on the refinishing. That gun sure loves those CCI Short HP’s. When you shot that first group with the Shorts and finished up with those last four rounds, they all went through the same hole and didn’t so much as touch the sides of the hole. Congratulations, my friend, on a great score!!!! That thing should knock the snot out of the Tennessee Spring squirrels, can’t wait to see that video.
I do have the 1935 Winchester 69 the bolt cocks on closing and cam3 with factory peep sights. It also has a 7 shot long rifle magazine ,a 5 shot long , and a 5 shot short magazine all marked Winchester on the bottom.
I have my dads 69a. He bought it used when I was a kid probably close to 60 years ago. I hadn’t shot it in years. I bought a new Leupold for it and took it out this afternoon for squirrels and got three. It’s always been a good shooter. Thanks for reviving my interest in it! All the metal parts and barrel on mine look browned. Always has looked like that. I showed it to a friend and he thought it was blued and was just patina. Have you ever heard of a 69a that was browned and not blued?
I love my Winchester 69a, it has the grooved receiver and I’m running a vintage Weaver K4 on that rig. John Abendshien authored what I consider the finest book for model specific books ever written, titled The Winchester Model 69 and its encyclopedic. A little pricey, but after they sell out(1000 copies) it will shoot up in value fwiw. You may well know this, new in box they came with a five round lr. AND five round Short magazines. Winchester also made a 10 round magazine. Don’t buy the Proline 10 rd aftermarket, they are junk unlike the Wisner’s. Really enjoy your videos-Ron
Those old Winchesters have a certain appeal. I have been looking for an older Weaver like your K4. I personally think it would look more appropriate on my 69A. Thanks for the info, and for your support.
I have my Dad's Win Mod 69a. It is a very accurate rifle and a sheer pleasure to shoot. I had a pair of weaver bases installed on mine and have a small 3-9x scope mounted. The barrel had a little bit of pitting on it so I had a gunsmith remove the pitting and hot re-blue it. I removed the old finish from the stock, bleached it to remove the stain and then re-stained it Minwax Special Walnut and put 8 coat of Tru-Oil on it. It is a beauty! With standard commercial grade Remington ammunition I can easily fire a group at 50 yds you can cover with a nickel. There is no takeup in the trigger and it has a super clean break. No one makes .22's of this quality any more unless you want to spend $500+. There are 10 round knock off magazines available for this rifle but don't waste your money. They are JUNK and consistently misfeed. I still have the .22 short magazine in addition to the LR one, but shorts are so hard to find nowadays it just stays in the gun cabinet.
I’ve got a first year production 69. It has the factory receiver mounted peep sight. Very accurate 88 year old rifle. Have a late 40s model 72 that I’m thinking of drilling and tapping for a scope. Enjoyed seeing your old Winchester.
I also have a 69 peep sight model. With all three magazines . Long rifle , short , long . However I still like the Marlin Glenfield model 25 best out of all my 22 rimfire rifles.
There's an excellent book written in detail on the model 69. The author's name is Jeff Abendshien highly recommended " The Winchester 69 evolution in design". It contains incredible detail!
Another great video in your .22 series Mr CO !!! Very nice little Winchester 69 A. The mag release is quite unique. 😁 Take care and stay safe !! 😁🇺🇸😁🇺🇸
Beautiful job refinishing & great wonderful content - Thanks SO much fer generosity to share !! - Really enjoy your videos on the shooting/rifles -22's.......Spring Squirrel Season - Very Interesting ....??....wonder if the young squirrels are weened & on their own by then so as to not shoot any Momma's with dependent young ..... ?
Really love your .22 series and you always showcase some mighty fine rifles! I only wish I could find some of those gems. Thank you for sharing! Cheers from Texas!
That is a beautiful rifle, Higher end rifles tended to be taken care of more than the less expensive ones. I have wanted a 69A for a long time. I look at them as the top of the line winchester working mans 22s
Great find! I own a first year production(1934) Winchester model 67 .22 rifle that was passed down to me by my Great Uncle and it is one of my most cherished and beloved rifles in my collection. Cheers!
@@olinshyne978 I don't. I own the old Winchester Model 67 that shoots .22 short, long and LR and also a CZ Model 457 American in .22LR. I was thinking of purchasing the .17 HMR barrel for the CZ because the barrels can be swapped out quickly and easily and .17 HMR is an amazing round.
Great video. Keep going and you're going to give Nibs a run for his money! I wish GA had a spring season! Two recommendations for future videos: scope mounting and general cleaning of your rifles/shotguns. Thanks again!
I just inherited one of these that was my Papaw's, i shot it open sights at about 20-25 yards 3 shot group and made one hole. I also got a Marlin 60 that was his, but having problems with the scope set up. User error most certainly, I'm new to the hunting world. I enjoy your videos!
Cumberland I happen to own a Winchester 69 peep sight predecessor to the 69a . I have all three magazines one for shorts ,one for longs and one for the long rifle. This. 69 was only made in 1935-1936. Still in excellent working condition all original non finished and no scope holes .
I definitely would like to own one of those vs a new CZ. My only bolt .22 is a Ruger American. I’m not excited with it, Maby the bolt can be smoother with some help from a gunsmith? Very nice!
Great stuff mate 👍 the only problem with 22 and 17 cals ya go through the ammo quickly but it is cheap well it is here in Australia I had a little sterling 22 with a thumb hole stock that thing never missed top little American gun i wish i still had it . Dam criminal's 🇦🇺 👍 🍻🇦🇺
And thank you for another pleasant video presentation. While you were talking toward the end I had a thought, (yeah I do get those every now and then, couple times a week, lol) So what if you set up a first shot target sticker apart from the rest, - then every time you get done cleaning the barrel, aim at that target sticker only with your first shot. I wonder what kind of a group that would have after 6 or 8 rounds? Plus your barrel would be at least 'first-shot-seasoned' - so the next five round group might not have any funky first shot flyers. Just a thought 🤔
I have never owned a 22 that would shoot shorts as accurately as your M69. I wanted to hunt squirrels with shorts but the accuracy was always so atrocious that I gave up on the idea. BTW your stock finishing skills are incredible.
Had to watch that video again, really enjoy you videos. What did you do or put on that stock? It sure has a gorgeous luster, especially in the sunlight.
Did you refinish the stock or freshen it up with a coat or two of birch wood Casey’s? I have a lot of old rifles that the stocks could use a little love, just don’t want to damage the original finish, but maintain it. Maybe you could do a video on old stock maintenance? Thank you-Ron
Great video! Just picked up a nice 69a with the grooved receiver at a gun show. Works great but safety is weak (mushy). Is there any way to tighten up a floppy safety on this rifle? Thank you again for the great 22 videos! They are the best!
I prefer to subsonics HP’s squirrel hunting. I practice and test ammo at 25 and 50yds. My hunting ammo shoots in the 0.3’s at 50yds in my custom Rem 581 and Anschutz 1710 D KL. My next 22 rifle will be a Winchester or Browning 52.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman I collect winchester rimfires and scope most of them with Unertl Hawk 4x scopes. They are not easy to find, but they are incredible scopes! Perfect for rimfires in my opinion. If you ever find an old Unertl scope for a reasonable price, you should give it a try. Also, you hit the lottery on that factory walnut stock! I have collected winchester 69s for years and the wood is rarely as nice as that! Looks like a block meant for the 75 sporter found its way into the 69a pile at the factory.
thanks. There are many .22 specific scopes. Some of the best ones are older vintage class models such as the Weaver K series, or Bushnell Banner. Even the Simmons .22 Mag makes a nice addition, and I have heard good things about them.
I have this same rifle from my Grandfather who passed away some years ago. He took the bolt assembly out a long time ago, and nobody in the family knows where it is. Does anyone know where I can buy the complete bolt assembly? Winchester Model 69-22 short rifle. Also need the magazine, too.

What a sweet rifle! Now you got me wanting another .22. Now I want to find one from 1957 (my birth year).
Thanks for feeding my addiction. lol
If you get a nice one, you should be rather satisfied.
