I started (binge) watching sailing videos last month. Your videos and the videos from Sailing La Vagabonde are by far the ones I like the most. Thank you for the amazing content. Malin is so sweet and gentle. Of course, you're both very likable and make a lovely couple. I wish you the best!
I personally think Sailing Nahoa makes the highest quality videos of all these sailing channels on TH-cam, but I think it is because they have editing expertise and graphic experience, their videos are almost TV quality, need to check them out too, also the content of "Learning by doing" is awesome too, the guy is a photographer, so his videos not only have great content, they are also interesting too, but RAN Sailing is my favorite of all channels, so I am here before any other channel!

Great video. I found it really helpful to see the level of planning that one has to do to provision a sailboat for a long ocean passage and then to actually see how much food that is and how much space it takes up. It's staggering to see how much stuff you have on board and the challenge to find sufficient space to store it all. I really appreciated the comments by others about the removal of paper materials in order to eliminate a breeding ground for insects of various types. Keep up the good work.
Wow, that was a SERIOUS provisioning run! I would guess you might be good for more than just a few months. I really like these "technical" videos regarding how you are working things out for the adventure. Good to see how things work out.
Great to see you moving on. Been waiting for that for a while. Try removing everything of food from cardboard boxes or paper wraps. They are really enjoyable by all sorts of bugs in the tropics. Was an excellent idea to make curtains. It will definitely cut the heat and the boat inside will look nicer. I have made mine some time ago, and it added some charm to the boat ;)
probably to late for this comment, as you'll probably be on your way by now. Beyond find a place to stow your provisions one of the most critical things is securing them. When you get into rough seas you don't want stuff flying all over the place. Broken wine bottles are a great hazard. Have to say of all the sailing couples I've come across on youtube you guy are in the top % for preparedness!
You are definitely right! We try to secure everything for bad weather. We have fitted locks on the hatches with heavy stuff in them, like the wine bottles and the canned food. It is a real challenge to secure absolutely everything though and at the same time make it usable. Thanks for your feedback and for watching! Take care!
I have heard of that issue as well .. since this is a older video - how did it go? Sharpies (permanent markers) can be used to label the cans or "tins" as the brits say.
Interesting thought.. it makes sense. It’s good to be more specific at avoiding fungus and dirt to build up. But ripping the papers of the tins .. that’s a lot of permanent marking time

Another great video, that shopping list and the work to store all was really scary. I used to do a lot of camping and I have often thought that when I do a sailing trip of that long between good stores I would consider freeze dried food. The freeze dried food has become really good and would store easily but I also know fresh or canned food might taste better. But it would be good in case of an emergency, just my thoughts. I hope you have a great crossing and cannot wait to see more of your videos.

Great video! I highly recommend taking off the labels, from cans and wiping them down with a rubbing alcohol/bleach solution. Mites and roaches like to lay eggs behind the labels, and that's how many boats get infested. Great video!

14:30 Buying bulk is so much better. store in airtight containers. although sometimes the bulk barrel foodstuff is not so fresh compared to the individual-boxed items. which means more packaging waste. and usually more expensive because of the name brand. just give me 25 lbs of lentils, 25 lbs of rice, 25 lbs of different nuts, 25 lbs of various beans for sprouting, oh and also good tea. that is about it. maybe some simple dried fruit like raisins and apricots. that would probably last me a year!

It could be the 18th Century (1700's) and your supplies would be coffee, salted port, salted beef, salted fish, sauerkraut, fresh fruits if they could be found.. hard tack and barrels of rum.. LOL... I envy you two guys. I should be on your trail in a couple more years. It's a good thing they didn't have super markets back then. But at least your pallet will be happy. LOL!

We'd figure that we would get comments about not taking off the labels from the canned food :) I, Johan, have actually never done that before and have never experienced any problem with cockroaches etc. So we decided to keep the labels to make it easier to find the right tin without having to mark them. But we'll see, maybe this time I'm wrong ;-)
The roaches in the tropical parts of the Americas fly, specifically towards lights at anchor. Once inside, they eat on the paper packaging, especially cardboard containers. In colder climates, I never had any issues, but as soon as we dropped down into central america, the bugs took over quick. If nothing else, it will make for a good life lesson. Fair winds.
An eight-pack of Combat! roach traps in the largest size available, distributed throughout the boat has always worked well for me. Maybe two eight-packs for a larger boat. They last several months, and at the first sign of a bug, replace them. No mess, no spraying, no odor, no powders. The roaches will find them and they prefer the poisoned bait inside to almost anything else. Almost all markets and ferreterias have them. Not sure if the brand name makes a difference, some local brands may be more or less effective. On another subject, the kerosene from the airport in Sal will find their nice clean decks.

Hi guys, you should wash or actually it's best to remove the paper rap on all cans!! To avoid insects!! Cockroaches normally they lay eggs or some eggs gets stock to the paper, the last thing you want on a boat is cockroaches 🙈🙈

Remember to take all paper off the tins because you can get bed mites & dust mites living behind paper labels & cardboard, Ace video guys.

Hey guys, love your videos. If you allow those soda cans to rub together for long periods of time in a rocking boat they will rub holes in other.

I've also found that if thin aluminum cans come into contact with seawater, they quickly develop pin holes. :-(

Hi guys, you should wash or actually it's best to remove the paper rap on all cans!! To avoid insects!! Cockroaches normally they lay eggs or some eggs gets stock to the paper, the last thing you want on a boat is cockroaches 🙈🙈
We'll probably do this when we stock up food in more undeveloped places. And if they come, we're prepared with roach baits :)
