    This is extremely helpful. I could not find any roof alternatives than the tarp. We'd be using this dog run for exotic animals that will easily climb out, so a structurally sound and secure 'top' was needed. This gives us a ton of inspiration. Thanks for making it. Cheers!

      If you have metal building supply store near you call them for roofing

    THANK YOU so much for your videos! I just put up my dog run and kennel, and the tarp I installed is not cutting it against the rain. I will begin this project ASAP. You are awesome!

    Could you give the step by step instructions on your roof? For example, you added a second metal bar across the top, is this needed?

    • @The_Valore_Garage
      @The_Valore_Garage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll work on the step by steps but in the meantime I can answer your questions.
      The bar across the front is not needed. I did it to add pitch so that during the rain it will drain toward the back and not pool if there happen to be a low spot. I used the piping from the old roof that got torn off due to high winds, used the same pipe to pipe clamps the kennel is held together with (can be found on amazon (( www.amazon.com/HITTITE-Kennel-Diameter-Kennels-Temporary/dp/B098DWQHCQ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=XWPYGP7BX921&keywords=gate%2Bclamps&qid=1662042612&sprefix=gate%2Bclamps%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzUldVQUVMSjJJRUY2JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUExMDI1ODMwMVc3V0pHQUpLME5HOCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwOTkzOTE1Mko4OE9WV0NHSVZEMyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1 ))for example)) so the front is 3" off the top of the kennel, the middle is 2" and the back is 1.5".
      Hope that made sense, if not let me know and I'll explain further.

      @@The_Valore_Garage So if the front is set up so that it is 3"high, I can see how that is, a rod is clamped on the top rail int eh front, the board is attached to teh pipe with conduit clamps...and the back is a 2x4 attached to the back rail with conduit clamps..So how do you regulate or make the 2 center boards set at just slightly lower than the front board and higher than the back board? Bases on your example, 3 up front, 1.5 in the rear...how do you get just 2" in the middle? Putting together my own double 10 x20s so I will have multiple boards running in the center slopping down. If I build it up to 3 int eh front, 1.5 in the back, how do I adjust the boards in the middle so they generate slope? Thanks

    Where did you get the extra pipe to make front higher ?

    • @The_Valore_Garage
      @The_Valore_Garage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was left over from the old retriever roof. It can easily be substituted using conduit piping found at Home Depot/Lowes

    Hello. Looks great. How did you attach the 2x4s, and what did you put underneath the 2x4s in the middle to get an even slope? I saw that you clamped a conduit pipe to the front edge, but not sure what was in middle. Thanks! (Sorry! I saw that you answered the height spacing in a comment below.)

    • @The_Valore_Garage
      @The_Valore_Garage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used the same conduit straps in the middle. The 2x4s are screwed to the wood that raises the roofing and then the conduit straps are screwed the the wood riser.
      We just expanded to a 3 kennel set up with another roof. I will try to get an in depth look at what I did to be a little more clear. Will try to get that out soon.
      Thank you.

    I’m curious how you adjusted the height of the middle pieces of wood to account for the slope of the roof. This is such a great idea, we are planning to do it on a chicken coop run extension.

    • @The_Valore_Garage
      @The_Valore_Garage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Front uses brackets raising it roughly 2", second back uses additional 2x4 which is 1.5", third is 1" ply and the back is clamped to the top rail.

    Great idea! I'm going to be doing this for my own Retriever 10×10 kennel. I understand how you did the pitch for the front and back of 3" and 1.5". How did you do the center of 2" to carry the slope? Thanks for the idea!

    Did that have a slight slope to it or was it flat?

    • @The_Valore_Garage
      @The_Valore_Garage  ปีที่แล้ว

      It has a slope, higher in the front so water will drain toward the rear.

    • @The_Valore_Garage

      Conduit Clamps, Can be found in the electrical department at your local hardware store and they're used to secure electrical conduit to walls.

    Any issues with the wind “lifting” the roof and the panels? Or are your pen panels anchored?

    • @The_Valore_Garage
      @The_Valore_Garage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No issues what so ever. I do have a, "Just in Case" tie at the corners attached to rocks, but even with the strong winds, we haven't had or seen the need for the corner ties.

    I have an A frame type dog kennel, how would you suggest making a solid roof for it? I have a raccoon problem and I use this kennel for my chickens.

    • @The_Valore_Garage

      Depending on the size of the pipes, mine were 1", I used 1" conduit clamps. Has two holes screwed to the wood and saddles the pipe. They're typically located in the electrical section of your local hardware store.

    How will you keep snow from mounting up?

    • @The_Valore_Garage
      @The_Valore_Garage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t have to deal with a lot of snow where I am but there is a rake to it so it drains toward the back. If you live where there’s a lot of snow the rake would have to be more drastic to keep from building.
