How does it compare to a PC based setup like Reaper? I'm finding it hard and time consuming to learn the PC set-up and want to go back to recording on a stand alone unit like the boss br1200 or br1600 but I'm worried the quality will be a lot less (much better guitar and drum sound on a PC unit I think). What are your thoughts, and can you drop the final stereo mix to PC and get a better end result by mastering in Reaper (or whatever program you use). Should I just slug away at learning PC based recording? Thanks in advance.
@@titmusspaultpaul5 I've tried the PC road as well. No comparison. If you have a basic knowledge of multi tracking and understand bouncing tracks you can figure it out by just messing with it. I downloaded the manual which really helped as well.
@@titmusspaultpaul5 also on my br1200 figuring out the eq and how to use it effectively along with PAN you can achieve decent sound. PC is going to be better I'm sure but it compares. The cd it produces is fairly decent. Good luck.
Not really I got one in 2009 and have about 7 since haha iv had the 1600 1200 and now900 I just had to mess with it and still till this day I use them I find something new these are the only mixers I have ever used to record never used pro tools or anything like that
Wish I never sold my 1180....I've been using all types of programs the last few years and I'm seriously thinking of going back to one of these....why not? Haha
Daniel DeMayo...☝🏾 Sure hope that you did go back to any of the BR-Series!...DAW can get complicated & expensive as you progress on thus killing good inspiraton🎼🎸 I am doing a whole hearted attempt at recording my album on a BR-1600CD Ver. 2... Fortunately,...I🇺🇸 reside in Japan🇯🇵..so I have access to Roland for any issues or parts for repairs! (Yes,..there is STILL support here due to the popularity of use!!) I'm using these units..(I own 3,..900CD..1180CD V.2 & 1600CD V.2...all still functioning!) ...and sometimes I MiDi sync them for additional recording possibilities. Hope you find yours again (..perhaps by now have! ) & hit me back if you do so we can get ya' caught up on tips!....✌🏾
I’ve been looking for some help regarding one of these for months now. My dad recorded a whole album on a boss 1180 before he passed away in December. However the built in burner isn’t functioning so so have no clue how to get the tracks off. They seem to be mastered and ready to go…I was just wondering if there’s a way to hook up an external burner or any other way to get the songs off without sacrificing the quality. I’m terrible with stuff like this! I can’t tell you guys how much I would appreciate some help with this. Im still able to enjoy the songs at home but I would absolutely love to be able to hear my dad while driving on the cd player. If anybody can help me they can have the whole unit afterwards!
I know you can get the CD burner changed for not a lot of money. Just find a decent electronics store that fixes stuff like this. Even a pc repair store should be able to change over the CD burner. I read an article a while ago saying that the burners are a standard size and interchangeable. Worth calling or visiting a couple of these types of places. Good luck, and I'd be interested to know how you get on. Also, how was the quality of your dads recording? I'm having trouble learning PC based DAW's and I'm looking to get a br1200 or br1600. If there's not a huge difference in quality I would just go online and buy 1 today.
I had a Boss br8 and it had a ZIP drive, so you can't use a storage card. The ZIP would only hold about 1 song of 4 minutes using all track, but the sound quality was FANTASTIC.
Just bought the br-1180. Impressive for 2002 to say the least
I had the 900 series for my little at-home recording studio & loved it. I recommend it for the beginner “studio engineer”
I've owned a br1200 for a couple of years now. Its ideal for the one man band situation that I have. Great machine.
