  • 🎭 Welcome back to Bored and Confused! Today, I review "The Great Gatsby" on Broadway. Starring Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada, this production is a dazzling blend of 1920s charm and modern flair.
    🎭 From the grand sets to the powerhouse performances, this show delivers big time. The choreography by Dominique Kelly is fantastic, capturing the essence of the era with a contemporary twist.
    🎭 While the story is familiar, seeing it unfold on stage feels fresh and engaging. And the tragic ending serves as a timely reminder of the pitfalls of wealth and status.
    🎭 Was I bored? Absolutely not. Was I confused? Only briefly, but it didn't detract from the overall experience.
    🎭 If you're in New York, don't miss "The Great Gatsby." It's a Broadway experience you won't forget!

    Just discovered you Matthew. I love your enthusiasm and candid takes on the shows --- and that they don't last 25 to 35 minutes! I subscribed and I'll be watching all your reviews.

      I seem to be in the minority. Probably because I didn't compare it against the book.

    You must have appeased the algorithm gods because here I am! I get to NY once a year to binge on shows and am so happy I found your channel. Great review. Keep the bow tie and vest, you look totally Broadway.

    Also here probably based on algorithm, but I saw the show last night and thought it was phenomenal. Eva wasnt performing due to fatigue and illness, but fabulous nonetheless. The critics approaches are unfortunaye because I, too, think they were robbed with the nominations. 😢

    Matthew, I can't begin to tell you how amazingly overwhelmed I am by your review of this show. I saw the first incarnation of this show back in the fall at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ and I was blown away by it, so much so, that I wasn't at all surprised when I heard that it was going to be moved to Broadway. I'm writing this now 'after' the official opening night and I was so distressed by the "mixed" (I'm being kind) reviews of all the theatre "critics!" I'm struggling to understand what the disconnect was between the show I experienced and the show they experienced. To that end, "Thank you" for your review . . . and if my grandmother was still alive, I'd take your advice to make sure she would see this show while visiting me here in NYC!

    • @MatthewHardyMusical
      @MatthewHardyMusical  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey! Thanks for the comment. I think the issue is that the critics were comparing the show to the novel and how they thought it should be adapted. I just went in and took it at face value and I loved it.

      I saw this show at Papermill and was blown away. I just got back from seeing it on Broadway and was so let down. The changes they made weren't for the better. I will say Eva wasn't there that night and that definitely added to the disappointment. Songs were changed and there was just something off. I too couldn't believe they didn't get more Tony nods, but after watching the Broadway version, kinda understood. Would I suggest it to others. Of course, any time you have the chance to see Jeremy Jordan, take it! He was flawless as always.

      @@sarahpalazzo1504 I really curious about the changes. Are there any big changes that you were particularly disappointed by? Which changed songs did you prefer in the Papermill production. This show is headed to Korea so I'm sure there will be more changes as they prepare the international premiere.

      I read it back in junior high school so I'd forgotten most of it. I think this is why I was able to enjoy the show without comparing it to an expectation of what the story should be. I'm excited to see the other version of Gatsby that is scheduled to open in the 2025 season.

    The songs at Papermill were not interrupted like that. That was one of the things I dis not like. Just sing the song and let me enjoy it!

    You can see it in late previews after the show is frozen. That’s when the critics and the Tony selectors see it, especially since Gatsby opened on the last day of elegibility.
    I didn’t get the jazz age vibe at all. The score didn’t help set the period at all. This show was meh. Agree the dancing was very good, and may get a Tony nomination. The sets were expensive and the performers were talented, but nothing made me invest in the characters.

      Probably because I base my reviews on two simple criteria. I don't go into whether the show is faithful to the source material like so many other reviewers did. I'm just here to be entertained! And I was thoroughly entertained by this show.
