This was the first fantasy movie I've ever seen. My father had it on VHS. I was 5 years old or so and I loved it. I watched the tape so many times that eventually it got ruined. Now I'm a 28 years old fantasy enjoyer. This is an excellent piece of art.
This film is a gem! Just watched it for the first time and loved the animation. Definitely not for kids lol
It's at least PG-13 for today's standards
@@davidwallgren7575 I agree!
I saw it at a drive in theater when I was a kid.
@@aaronvoss748 oh u were lucky! Lol I didn't know this movie exist until a few years ago. To me it was amazing!
The trailer make that clear the movie isn't for kids with all the @$$ running across the screen.
This movie changed my life and appreciation for art, allowed me to discover Frazetta and fantasy art in general.
the backgrounds, the visuals, the story.
The reason the animation looks so cool is because it's not traditional animation, it's "Rotoscoping". Rotoscoping is an animation technique that animators use to trace over motion picture footage, frame by frame, to produce realistic action. Originally, animators projected photographed live-action movie images onto a glass panel and traced over the image.
Not to mention the backgrounds and mattes brilliantly painted by none other than the legendary James Gurney.
@@BigBrotherMateyka Hate to break it to ya but he wasn't the only background artist working on that film. The other guy was Thomas Kinkade. I wish I was joking.
The character movements are so good it looks 3d at some times.
That because it's "Rotoscoping" & not traditional animation. Rotoscoping is an animation technique that animators use to trace over motion picture footage, frame by frame, to produce realistic action. Originally, animators projected
photographed live-action movie images onto a glass panel and traced over the image. You don't see it used very often because it's expensive. They shoot live action film using human actors, (like in a regular movie) THEN they animate the live footage. It produces a very realistic (& IMO, beautiful) effect.
@@darrylrevok9936 I thought it would be more time-consuming then expensive. But then again time is money.
@@kozmeetorez oh it is both time consuming and expensive. I did rotoscoping in my college art classes. You may be given a background to draw frames over, but it is still a time consuming pain in the ass.
@@kozmeetorez It's more expensive than traditional animation because in addition to animation you're also using live action. (that the animators have to trace over)
Rotoscoping is back with rotoscoping from CGI instead of live action.
This is what Spider-Verse did.
One time I saw a metal band that played slowed down clips of this on the projector while they performed. So good!
That sounds awesome
Conan?! If so, I've seen them too and it was the coolest!
@@julianliguori8409 Yep that's definitely the band, and I actually know you've seen them too because I was there with you dude. Think, who do you know with these initials? X____X lmao.
@@nvrndingsmmr I know that show was awesome because I was there with you guys also. You'll know who I am once you look at my name.
I wanted to do that if I ever was in a rock band but with Spawn clips
Just bought this BluRay for my brothers 50th bday present. This was one of his teenage favs.
Aside from Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal, this is one of the most influential pieces of animation I've ever watched. This deserves a full five-star rating
After seeing this trailer, got a Primal vibe from it. A friend who LOVES that show recommended this and other Bakshi films…
Primal is amazing.
Bakshi and Frazetta, a perfect pairing!
Yeah man...agreed. A crying shame they only paired once and only once for something like this.
But..it's better than not have them having done a collaboration at all.
I just unlocked a memory! I had forgotten this but I watched it as a child and now I remember this movie had quite an impact on me
Batman and Mr.Freeze go back to a lost time in another dimension.
This is one of the best films ever made in my opinion. Frank Frazetta is one of my favorite artists and watching this it's like watching a moving Frazetta painting for an hour and a half. It's so fucking beautiful. Glad I managed to get a bluray copy.
...dude...
Haven't seen many movies then
@@SweetYaoii lol ok dude
Apart from Frazetta paintings I really can't see how this can be considered "one of the best films ever made" when it s technically extremely poor, and the story and characters are extremely cringe and cliche
@@unhommequicourt I think its one of the best films ever made because I think it is. That's it.
I love the Animation so much...Masterpiece...underrated! The Score (Music) is epic - the Darkwolf is a real Badass...
One of my favorite trailers of all time. The film is pretty great too. One of the best fantasy films of the 80's for sure.
I wish adult animated sword-and-sorcery films like this would make a comeback, they rocked!
The animation on this is astounding for an 80s movie
This is incredible, how have I never heard of this before?
How have I never herd of this?! I'm a massive 80s fan! This looks a must!❤
This was a good trailer, thank you for sharing! I've embedded your video into our review article about the film
It's amazing how this is from 1983 and it looks a thousand times better than the What If cartoons on Disney+. I can't believe they want people to accept that subpar animation.
It’s looks good but no it doesn’t.
Where is the correlation 🤣
@@saturn4838 The correlation is how Disney is the world's leading animation company in the world and somehow What If animation is awful. They commit resources to Encanto, but they don't commit the same resources to the What If series. Fire & Ice is phenomenally animated with way less technology and savvy from 1983. Pretty simple really. Surprised you didn't get that.
the animation is really not good. it s just rotoscoped, which means they draw over a filmed scene in real life. It looks really poor and clunky.
@@unhommequicourt nope, the real life action allows incredibly lifelike movement but with all of the impressionistic qualities of animation over the top, plus no matte lines having to integrate 'real' images with painted backdrops - green screen before green screen but with none of the uncanny / unbelievablility issues
Why aren't these kind of amazing movies made now?
Check out Gendy Tartakovski's "Primal"
It is PHENOMINAL!
Sadly, I don’t think they made much money at the time they were made which is unfortunately all it’s about in the end
I just realized where they got the Warcraft character Rexar from
Yep! The owner of Blizzard confirmed it when we visited the campus.
One brave hero's journey against the evil creation known as...
Clothes
This was after Bakshi had perfected the rotoscoping animation technique which is why it looks so good, wish I could say the same for his LOTR movie. When he made LOTR in 70s, this rotoscoping was brand new technology and hadn't been used to its full potential yet. Bakshi foolishly decided to test it on a project as big as LOTR which is why there is a lot of amateur inconsistencies with the animation in the movie.
Rotoscoping wasn't a new technique. It has existed since 1915. And Princess Iron Fan (1941) was one of the first movies that used the technique extensively. Bakshi only used rotoscoping because of budget limitations, being Wizards the first one. And he only said it was "new" for marketing purposes.
the inconsistencies / fluctuations of the animation style were actually awesome as it added a further painterly / impressionistic quality to the movie IMO
I was looking for that cartoon for a fucking 5 YEARS. And i finally found it!!!! I watched it in 2000-2005 and all i remembered is that batman look like character, Femme fatale and her big guy!
Wonderful animation style. Really something.
This looks so much better than the modern 3-D animated crap that we’re getting.
1983 wow great film
They just haven't been able to make anything as visually textured as Heavy Metal and probably never will.
Just watched it. Cool as hell...no pun intended, and stoneriffic!
Where to watch?
Here 17th March 2021 love from Bernie in the garden in Ireland
I thought it was a kids movie when me and my mom rented it from the video store. It wasn't, but it quickly became a favorite with Secrets Of Nimph
Honestly, Darkwolf could have just been Death Dealer. It's not like we ever learn anything about him so it's not like I would ruin the mystique.
Pssst.... you got a little Star Wars in my Conan.
AND WE'RE OKAY WITH THAT!
Great movie!
Teegra actress would go on to be in The Simpsons. Larn actor would go on to be a politician.
Primal Batman
Hey maybe I’ll get Fire And Ice on Blu Ray for Christmas 🎄
Well?
Wow, I just love this style of animation!! Looks great. Movements and all.
This animation looks really good for tge time period
The animation is on a whole new level it's even better than modren movie animation 🤩
0:40 came for thicc, stayed for lore
Dvd extras, it is revealed that Darkwolf is Necron's father, which is why He feels responsible for his evil!!!
i need MORE movies like this PLEASE SOMEONE help me out
I never saw this. Maybe Wizards (1977) or the animated Lord of the Rings movies are similar.
That movie is awesome.
now saw an edited clip of this on TikTok and now about to go download or stream this. this is the cartoon I needed 😍
Rotoscoping movies are always trippy
wowowow
Soooooooooooo how did this genre/animation style go out again? I'm confused.
There ain’t no way this is pg 💀
This was before Spielberg created the PG-13 rating.
Most PG films from back then would be PG-13 if they came out today.
how was this more real than todays movies
Guillermo del toro next movie❤😊
It's on tubi
yaaaawn
hay un viendo aquí en yotutube donde salen escenas de esa película pero en una canción de música electrónica, ¿alguien sabe cual es ese video? lo vi hace unos 11 años pero no alcance a guardarlo
Given when this was made, the animation looks good for that time.
Ralph bakshi made the lord of the rings from 1978 it's same animation style and a good adaptation but unfinished due to the loss of funding
I've watched the movie and it was the greatest classic anime fantasy movie ever.
Ok, I'm completely late to the game having seen this movie for the first time last night 8/27/22, on TUBI. So many questions! Was Darkwolf Larn's brother all along? Notice at the beginning of the film Larn's father told him to go with his brother & the next shot was a guy on horseback on the hill. The SAME shot they used at the end when Nekron was defeated. And why did Darkwolf wear that skullcap? Was it because of the skullcap that he was able to defeat Nekron? I hated the fact that Teega stole Larn's food without explaining who she was & who was chasing after her. Then she was trying to all of a sudden be coy when she was eating the berries. I was like girl, bye!!😅 All in all, I really dug the lifelike animation & was familiar with Bashki since I'd seen "Fritz the Cat." I just need my questions answered 😉
Rumour has it that Dark Wolf is actually... Nekron's father. That's why he managed to resist his spell.
Nice
Was this trailer edited to be in 60fps or something !?
Philip Johnson Thompson
I’m sure a Robert Rodriguez remake will have Teegra as the hero, Darkwolf will be a MtF transgender, and Larn will be comedy relief.
Awesome..now why they still havent made a death dealer movie i would like to know ???.. Who doesnt want to see that 😕
Muchos comentan las semejanzas con Batman, o con conan, pero nadie se ha percatado de que allí están rexxar y Arthas de Warcraft??
Awwww
It was rated pg-13
HBO should do a live action version
Dark Fantasy
This story takes before the great flood of noah.
Good shroom movie
This looks exactly like He-Man
Me: why cries ice king?
DAT ASS tho
FR
Disney: What???
some tig ol' bitties for a pg flicc lol
Rexxar
Ok I’m glad everyone on here is reconnecting with their childhood, but this movie is awful.
Where's a good animated 80's nudity????
Sau sampaio

ROMANS 6:23 FOR THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH, BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.
Death Dealer
Ooo nooo..tanto done found the power of Greyskull 💀... ✊✊✊...he kills elric and the white boy gets to repopulate the world with hot princess... Poor tanto 😢... The white man truly is evil brother 😂
Is there nudity in it?
nope, that bikini manages to hold on during the whole thing.....but barely.
Back when films were about good stories and not about SJW crap
Loved the animation and Frazetta styling. Hated the plot, overt racist and homophobic messaging, and lack of a serious plot. It's difficult to watch from an objective lens. The theme is "dark-skin = savage", white-skin=victim/peace". Wish the story could have been reviewed and not just a bunch of stereotypes
It seems that you are the racist here. Just another liberal who hates their own culture and their own people. You should be proud of our achievements.
Holy phuck, watching this trailer now, after all these years, this movie was definitely the inspiration for World of Warcrarft. Darkwolf is an exact match for Rexxar which was the alpha build main character of WOW before they changed it to customizable first person. Arthas was the Ice King, Rexxar is Darkwolf, and I’m sire there’s more ‘coincidences’ if I was to watch the movie again.
Despite what it says on IMDB.com Ralph Bakshi was the ONLY director. This youtube is mislabeled.
