  • Come with me to the second annual Fort Loudoun 18th Century Market Fair.
    The fair was held on June 24-26 2022 at historic Fort Loudoun, located in Fort Loudon, Pennsylvania, just west of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
    This event featured 18th century camping, flintlock shooting matches, colonial vendors and craftsmen, all centered around a beautiful, restored French and Indian War era fort.

    This looks like it was REALLY cool. I sure am sorry I missed being there. History....our country ...is so interesting. Especially in times gone by.

    Seems that these kind of fairs have a similar atmosphere than the medieval market fairs here in Europe.

    I'm glad to see that this rotten economy hasn't killed the fun stuff in life. I'm glad you got to go and even better, bring it to us. I would have loved to have seen the seminars!

      One can say this rotten economy is bringing this fun stuff back, bringing self sufficiency back... at least that's my gut feeling. These hard times will make strong men again.

    Awesome, love to see that people are showing an interest and keeping the fort alive! Lucky enough to grow up close to Ft.Miegs in Ohio that protected the Maumee Bay and gained some noterity during Tecumseh's exploits. Put-IN-BAY island was another very interesting place to visit, having a fort there since at least 1812!

    Was a really nice event, buddy and I made it up for the day on the Saturday. That's always been a pretty spot with the mountains west and north of the fort. Definitely warm but an enjoyable day! Looking forward to Kempton Gunmakers Fair in a few weeks next!!!

    Saying it was hot is an understatement, it was damn hot. LOL, the lifesaver was the creek we were able to jump into in the evening. All in all it was a great time and I'm looking forward for the Market Fair next year.

    What a marvelous event. We had a trip scheduled to go to colonial Williamsburg during the pandemic. But the restrictions got so ridiculous that we wound up cancelling.
    I'm thinking my family should make plans to attend one of these events.

    What about swords, Mike? Wouldn’t they have had a presence in that time period? I’d figure that a wealthy 18th century man like yourself would be armed with a sabre as one of your accouterments? Or as that. Euro thing?

    Hey, I had a question: How do you source Pedersoli guns? I'd like to order from them, but there only appears to be a handful of distributors in the US and I can't figure out how to just get the guns from them.

    • @duelist1954
      @duelist1954  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pedersoli does not sell direct. They ave several major dealers. Dixie Gunworks is one of the best. If you can't find a gun, you can contact Jason at the Italian Firearms Group, and ask them for help. www.italianfirearmsgroup.com/

    Hello sir...I have a question about the 1859 sharps. Does it fire using caps ? If so are they placed on the nipple one at a time or is there an unseen feeding system ? I really enjoy your videos. I'm a Texan so the Guns of the Texas Rangers was really enjoyed. I was a Dallas cop back in the day...lol...1970's and 80's vintage long since retired and slowed down. I like all your stuff but old west and thier firearms particularly. I remember you saying you drooled over the Hawes Western Marshall 357 in the Western auto catalog. So did I....lmaooooo. Anyway keep up the great work and do pay a kick of attention to the bay sayers.

    • @duelist1954
      @duelist1954  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. It takes musket caps, one at a time

    He Dear...
    Can you talk to me in your free time? I have some necessary questions as I am going through the stage of building a rifle for my 75-year-old grandfather He is a fan of musket rifles, but unfortunately, this type of rifle is not found in our country, so I decided to make it myself.
    And I brought English walnut, wood treatment materials, iron oxidation materials, glaze materials, and everything And I followed several clips on TH-cam of the makers of musket rifles (gunsmith vid ) I faced only one problem, is closing the back of the barrel, so I searched the Internet for ways to close the barrel. I found the breech plug method, but I searched more about closing the barrel with a breech plug. Unfortunately, I found many forums warning against this method, and some say 200 shots max And this thing made me feel bad about designing the rifle for my grandfather, so I stopped working
    To sum up all of my words - is closing the barrel with a (breech plug) safe and reliable? I am very afraid, please help me, I am very hesitant and I apologize for the long wait and thank you in advance

    dear mike, so appreciate your videos ,love this time frame in our history. ..i have a question you may have knowledge of, or perhaps some other reader may. do you know the bore size or ball size of a swivel gun of thar era.. i have a small canon ball purchased that was listed as a 'dig' from the york town battle in VA. the iron ball is approx. 1.5 ''and weight is right at 8 oz. there are four dots in a square ( casting ) marks. i believe these are early markings. i know geo. washington maintained a swivel gun at fort necessity in the F& I war. i seem to come to a dead end for further info. as far as size...could it be grape shot ,or a very small canon ball.. thanks to you ,or anyone else.........please keep the videos rolling . ed
