This video is just better of the 90% of all the video on TH-cam about photography.Maybe is the way you explain every detail of you trip/gear/retouch....everything is just perfect!!!Keep this way!!
This was the most inspiring video about portrait photography I’ve seen so far. Thank you so much, you are amazing at what you do, please do more of this!!!
Very interesting and cool process! love how you explain everything in order. You guys are so smart to bring back up drives for the photos! The guy with the machete is freaking awesome 🤩
Idk how you only have 770 subs man. I love your portraits. The ones you took with the x100 is beautiful. I think the 50 1.2 has too much bokeh, but that’s just me. Beautiful work regardless.
Nick you deserve all the success coming your way, this video was so informative and inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing your gear, creative process and stories behind each photo. Looking forward to all your future videos!
i always love portraits, the emotion and feelings they give is just something else, and of course having them the here and now, so years down the line, other generations will wonder who they were, what they did and where they were, i always found that to be fascinating great video too!
Me too! I’ve been thinking up a video discussing some of that. I’ve taken portraits of people that are no longer with us. It’s a pretty powerful thing.
Even one light opens up a ton of options for some creativity. If you're just getting started I'd recommend a used speed light and a cheap umbrella. That's what I learned with before stepping up to more powerful strobes.
Many years ago, Irving Penn made Portaits of various folkaround the world! Used Rolleflexes! Your images OK. Digital makes life plain easy! Penn: Worlds in a Small room".
I've seen that series before and looked it up again after reading your comment. Some great images. I've shot both film and digital and I don't think digital is easier. There's so much more to a good photo than the medium it was captured on. I do think digital can speed up the learning curve which is nice. But... it means more competition. Pros and Cons to both I suppose.
A few years back I did a project photographing backpackers. Older tech, my strobe was a separate head and battery. My pack was around 60-70lbs on those trips... Won't do that again.
My wife is in Ecuador right now for her father’s 100 year birthday. Sadly she convinced me this time not to go. The big city of Guayaquil just isn’t safe for gringos that stick out clearly over their right now with the extreme high crime the new president has been cracking down on.
Hope you enjoyed this video. Did you learn anything new? Let me know in the comments!

Great portraits and the way you explain everything shows how much you care. Keep it up. Great work! 👌👌👌👌
Such beautiful portraits, very subtle use of flash makes such a difference. Post-processing compliments the subjects so well.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed them.
Excellent work Nick! I predict this channel is going to be big, you're a natural presenter as well as a great photographer, good luck from England!
Appreciate that! Thanks for watching!

I lost a couple photos early in my photo career since then my backup systems are solid. That is one of my favorite photos!
Amazing work! I really like how you elaborated on the whole workflow in detail.

@@nickroush Did you use log picture for the video?
Yes, we always shoot Log profiles. The sony Log profile gives you so much room to edit the footage.
Your video is so lovely and helpful. Lots of love to your channel and Equador looks like a lovely place. Fantastic portraits and lovely people ❤❤❤
Thanks so much for watching! :)
Great video man
Appreciate it!
Clean setup, I gotta dive into lighting, never really considered it when outside.

2010 called they are asking for their Joey L videos back
I love Joey’s work, so I’ll take this as a compliment.
Did you really hike with fucking lamp and softbox xD?

Yea I’ve heard about the troubles there lately :( I’m half Ecuadorian so I blend right in but Amanda had all eyes on her the whole trip.
