Idk how you only have 770 subs man. I love your portraits. The ones you took with the x100 is beautiful. I think the 50 1.2 has too much bokeh, but that’s just me. Beautiful work regardless.
@@Weddingsbyavishek thanks man!
Great idea. A couple of questions. Why use a card reader - why not just plug the camera into the hub with a USB cable? Also, if you have plenty of space on the card(s) in the camera, why not just multi select in the Files app the files you want to move that day - then no need to format the card + you have an extra 'backup' on the camera
@@andrewdhome my card reader transfers files much faster than my camera and I can get to transferring while I charge all my camera batteries. But direct to the camera might work! You could use as cards as part of your backup but on a 2 week trip to Ecuador I took over 500gb of photos and video footage so hard drive backups were a better option.
That's absolutely awful the way PPA treated you. Congrats on the wedding and a positive perspective.
Thank you!
I'm a bit late, but congrats on the wedding. It sounds like a stressful time, and then on top of that expensive gear was stolen. But you didn't let that drag you down, and the photos look great, IMHO.
Thanks so much! Yea, I didn’t get dragged down until later when insurance denied my claim… but it’s all good, I’ll recover. Thanks for watching!
Mate I feel like you’ve done what so many photographers desire! (Ps sending love from Australia)
Haha thanks man! We were forced into it but we’re happy with how it all turned out. Thanks for watching!
I would 100% do this but I love documentary style wedding photography so it would never work 😂
Yea that would be tough… I still recommend having some little point and shoot to catch the things you notice! Everything goes by so fast on the day.
Would you try this?
totally...love from india
Yes I am about to in May
You got it! 💪🏼
how do I make sure the photos on the LCD screen and what’s actually saved on the camera looks the same?
Check the setting "natural live view" under Screen settings page 2/4. Does that help?
Good ideas
Omg. The insurance, jeebus! That person is a thief. Grrrr. PS your wedding was beautiful❤
Yea, got unlucky with that! Thank you :) have another wedding video coming soon.
Thank you for posting this!!! Is the camera at 25 seconds a Bolsey?
It’s an Exacta, but when I found that camera I did find a little Bolsey that I like to shoot with. My very first video has all the old cameras I found in my father in law’s basement.
@@nickroush Thank you for the reply. I live in Rochester NY and Bolsey was one of several camera brands made here.
@@andrewjohnson4728 Ahh very cool! I didn't know that. The one I found is from the 50s I believe and still works great. I've used it for a few rolls of film.
They came out really good with those lighting conditions.
Wait a dang minute... you only have 700 subs at the moment???? bro your videos are amazing like how??? The TH-cam algorithm needs to get to work.
Haha, I appreciate you man! Channels still new, just gotta get more and more videos out. Let the algo do it’s thing.
Great & honest points. I original used a 1957 Voigtlander Vito B my dad have me. After retiring I bought a Leica CL with 4 lenses. Then I added a X100V. Ended up selling the both and got a Leica Q2. I bought the X100VI a few weeks ago and love it especially with the stabilization.
Do you still shoot with the Leica and the x100vi? I’ve used a Leica before a few times and like them but for a walking around camera the x100 is hard to beat. So small and quiet.
i was looking around on how to start up a small kit. thank you for this video. most definitely gonna be looking up and maybe having the same setup as yours. thank you Nick!
Love it! Thanks for watching!
I have been contemplating a similar kit for a while. Shooting primarily X-T3 and Profoto B1 and is seriously considering a A2 to complement.
I loved the A2, mine was recently stolen but I'm going to get another. If you check out my Ecuador video all the portraits there were lit with the A2 and Clic soft box.
Brilliant. I had used a WD passport wireless HDD which has a card reader, for ages. It recently died and could not find a similar arrangement. The hub is great. Time to get one. Thanks.
Glad I could help!
0:40 not graded :/
But the main shot is epiiic :D
Haha dang it. Was hoping nobody would notice. Added that b-roll last minute and completely forgot to grade it. Thanks for watching!
Hi Nick. I just wanted to leave you a quick message to say that I really enjoy your videos and I think you really deserve more success! A big thank you, and keep it up!
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching!
have you look at the Tri-Charger (battery charger/SD holder/ charger in one)
I haven't heard of that. What's the brand name? I'll look it up!
Jupio
also look at the llano 2 in 1
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Why not go with a personal article policy with your normal day to day insurance co. I.e. Statefarm.
State Farm is one of the few I’ve heard of that cover gear used for work. But I also need business liability insurance.
true. You use it for your business.
Ugh! What a way to feel absolutely gutted! Hope it all works out in the end and you're able to get back into the gear you need to keep working. Your work is amazing!
Thank you sir! We'll get back to it, just a slower recovery.
Dude you have a lawyer! The insurance has to pay you! If the police made the register as a theft they have to cover your loss.
Yea, I considered talking to some lawyer friends. Maybe that's the route I need to go.
Man, that’s awful. Must’ve put a damper on what should’ve been a blissful fun weekend. I’m glad that I canceled PPA recently. Awful that they treated you that way. Great tips at the end of the video. Thanks for sharing. Especially the insurance tips.
Thanks man! Hope my experience can help someone out there avoid the same thing happening to them.
@ I’m certain it will!
Damn, heartbreaking. I have Apple airtags in all my bags, with the speakers are disabled, so hopefully, they will give me a chance. I'll get on replacing the batteries...I got an alert just like you.
I did the little speaker trick as well. And now all my stuff has one hidden somewhere.
Totally sucks. I spend the night spend a time in the Rocky mountain since I live in Denver and I'm a professional pep photographer. So far I make sure I only bring one bag for my camera gear but obviously not doing the amount of photography or videography you're doing. So everything is in one bag in that bag is quite bright. I'm also a PPA member and have PPA insurance and I've heard from several people that it sucks so I appreciate the tip on the different insurance option.
Yea, I normally have most stuff in one main bag that I've had for years but on this day I just didn't want to carry everything so I split it up. Bad idea... Definitely look into better insurance. PPA has an upgraded option for coverage but it ends up being more expensive than what I mention in the video (Hill and Usher).
I'm really sorry man. I'm glad you were able to enjoy the big night though. I would be probably so traumatized, that I would be able to live the moment at 100%. In the end, its the memories that matter the most.
I think I'd be in a much worse place if I was forced into replacing it right away. It's a huge loss but I can live without the stuff for a while and slowly rebuild over time so that helps. Still had a few moments that were tough, when I finally gave up on looking for it, and when I got the denial email from insurance.
Dude, this makes me sick. I’m so sorry to hear this! I haven’t had any camera gear stolen from me but over the years, I have had lots of things stolen in my lifetime. House broken into, Jeep broken into multiple times and it just sucks! I’m so sorry you had this happen to you.
Yea man, it’s not fun. Really just want answers. But at this point I’m over it. Just time to move on. Could have been worse.
Nice job on the video. Every item listed is a want, none are really needs.
Have you ever lost any camera gear? Do you have any tips to add?
Damn, sorry to hear. Brother had a lens stolen in France, right in front of my sister. When she tried to confront the thief, a group of men surrounded her blocking her off, questioning her very abruptly. She knew there was a set up and immediately backed off, apologizing. Living in Colorado, too many people leave their doors unlocked. I'm always double checking making sure my gear is secure. I've had bags slip and roll out of my side door, not even noticing. Fortunate enough to return and see my gear still there. Pretty cautious now that I've had it happen. Never lost any glass though. I do the multiple compartments too. It just makes it easier when you need specific gear and do different types of photography on the go.
Sorry to hear that. Scary stuff.
Anyone know what lens hood he is using?
Hey! If you take a look at my "9 things you need for your fuji" video I have that hood linked in the description.
Clean process!
Good morning, congratulations for the review and for your TH-cam channel. I have a question for you about the Fujifilm x100VI: to switch from photo to video mode you have to act on the rear menu (LCD) by manually setting the mode, but wanting to set any button as the REC button, while in photo mode for convenience and operational speed , does pressing the latter record with the same settings assigned for the video mode? I'm asking you because I did this test and by pressing the button dedicated to video recording on the screen the video starts recording but without any information regarding FPS and more. Thanks in advance for the reply
Sorry, I don’t have a good answer for you. I’ve played around with the video a little bit on the x100vi but haven’t used it much. You could try doing a few sample videos and then bringing them into your editing program and see if it’s at the right FPS.
Great portraits and the way you explain everything shows how much you care. Keep it up. Great work! 👌👌👌👌
Hello... could you please share how to set up the camera to shoot with an exterior flash? I have not been able to set up mine. ☹☹☹ I must be doing somethig wrong. I've always had my Elinchrom lights to shoot with my Canon R5 camera... but with my Fuji X100 VI.. I can't find how to set it to see what's in front of me. I would appreciate some help with that. Great channel by the way.👍👍👍
@@miguelsuarez1511 hey Miguel, thanks for watching! Do you have a Fuji specific trigger for your lights? The trigger that worked on my Sony doesn’t work on my Fuji I had to get another one.
@ yes… the elinchrom specific for fuji
@ and it does work. It triggers the exterior lights just fine
But is it normal that I can’t see the difference between power of the lights throu the viewfinder? Like on a regular mirrorless camera like my Canon R5
And by the way… thanks for answering my message so quickly. Hope you can give me some light on the subject.
Hey Nick. Nice system. When doing your daily backups, after reformatting the card, do you rename the DCIM folders ? Your method of copying and pasting the whole folder could result in REPLACING the previously copied folder from the day before. Or are there new folders on the hard drive for each day, and each camera body?
I do make a new folder for each new day and if I run backups more than once in a day I’ll do the date + “part 2” or something like that. Definitely make sure you’re pasting into a fresh folder.
Great idea. Iʻd live to skip the laptop next trip. Iʻll give this a go...
Make sure you test it at home before your trip! Thanks for watching!
Currently my hobbyist setup is: Connect camera to android phone with USB-C cable. Transfer photos directly to Lightroom app or smartphone hd. This setup especially Lightroom app route needs internet for syncing. Other than this it works great. However I don't have offline backup setup for external HDD ready yet. I need a way to transfer photos from SD card to HDD. This setup you have or variation might be a good idea. Thanks for sharing it.
Going to the cloud is nice, but like you mentioned requires internet, and if you shoot raw files that’s alot of data to try and transfer to a cloud. Hope this setup helps! Whatever you decide make sure you test a bunch at home before any travel!
The biggest travesty is seeing that youre under 1k subs. This is a 100k+ sub channel and I hope you get the growth you deserve.
@@ayim01 appreciate the kind words! The channels still new and I haven’t been able to give it as much attention as I’d like this summer but I’m planning big things! Thanks so much for watching!
This is why I only get phones with micro sd card slots (Sony). Tiny anker card reader to fast micro sd card in phone. Then unplug card reader, plug in a drive and copy from micro sd to drive. Micro sd now acts as a cheeky back up. Just switch it out for a new one when it gets full.
I’m so deep in the Apple ecosystem I’ll never get out! lol. But your setup sounds sweet, like that you have micro sd backups as well.
@@nickroush dongles or green bubbles is a choice every man must make alone...
Are you going to give this backup system a try?
Hi Nick. Not yet finally set, but your video gives a very meaningful mobile procedure which will certainly inspire us.
thank you!!
Superb! Thanks!
Thank you for this video, very helpful
Very helpful Nick! A suggestion: Slow tthe tempo of your setup to a pace that syncs up with someone implementing your settings. Perhaps secure the mic/tx to free the hand. My VI has caused my Q2 to be in my for sale queue.
I'm still a little uncomfortable on camera and my handheld mic is like a safety blanket lol. I've tried a few Leicas and I also prefer the VI... Glad you found something helpful in this video!
@@nickroush You shared some pearls for sure. I appreciate the thinking.
Very helpful 😊
Were any of these tips helpful?
Super helpful! I’ve had my vi for a few months and your practical tips would have been so helpful on my initial setup
Very helpful, even with my V (I'm still waiting for my VI to arrive-been waiting since February…). What especially caught my attention was the Auto Update Custom Setting… setting. I wish the V had that already. So, other than the IBIS, that's something I'm also looking forward to.
I didn't know that was missing on the V. Like I mentioned this is my first Fuji but that setting has helped a ton when I'm tinkering with new recipes. Hope you get your VI soon!
Absolutely a gold mine my friend. As someone new to digital photography(I'm 71 and only last week I bought the Fujifilm X100vi), I found your tips to be excellent and will without doubt, help me to spend more time taking pictures and less time pfaffing around in the menus. I reckon Neil Armstrong had fewer buttons to press getting to the bloody moon.
@@AlSnoopsReid Haha, glad I could help! I agree that it can be overwhelming but once you have it set up the way you like it's such a fun camera to shoot with.
2:52 recipe for disaster. Please don't use 3rd party batteries to save a few bucks which may ruin your camera's electronics :)
@@ashrafulalam1734 I disagree. I’ve used third party and brand name batteries for over 15 years with many different cameras. Never had any issues. That being said, insure your camera gear.
Where did you get those small split rings/loops on the camera? I would love to get some that size and shape.
They came with the black peak design toggles. I added a link to the description for "Black anchors" I do love the little split rings. They're oval shaped and have a little plastic cover on them. Very low profile.
Thank you! Greatly appreciated. Love your videos. Really good stuff!
