In order to streamline the ship pipeline, they switched to concentrating on one manufacturer to build out the larger style asset library. Most of that will be used to create the bigger ship under that manufacturer to help address the backlog. The design language from there, along with the assets built, get used for the other a ships under it. The Zeus was the first ship to benefit from the Polaris which is why the Apollo will have ques from it too.

Do you thin price plays into the decision if a ship gets a T2 or T2 medbed? For example the carrack and 600i (rumored to have one) at $400 have a T2 bed and all ships below this have T3. I am assuming this will cost between 200-250 so it should be a T3 if price plays into it. Hopefully we find out very soon!
@@TemplarGuardian The Carrack's contained and isolated medical bed should be a Tier 1 bed with the two remaining beds both being Tier 3 beds. That ship is meant to be a self sufficient deep explorer away from civlized areas.
I was just thinking aloud about how the Terrapin Medical is going to be a competitor to the Pisces or worse, the Cutty Red. Simply put, the Cutty Red is literally the perfect ambulance ship in the game right now. It has everything you need in one neat little package.

Great review on the medical ships, love them all My Cutty Red will be upgraded to the Apollo Medivac I was once a Carrack owner, with the C8R in the roof, however a recent post on spectrum concerning the impossibility of just fixing even the cargo bay doors, cemented its fate for me, that and no npc crew for 1.0, and then the realisation of how solo gameplay vs multicrew will play out, but i digressed

Its funny that Cutty Red has a toilet without door. Really tells how much CIG actually put effort on developing it. I understand if it would be single seater and more military kind of ship.

A Cutty Red will be blown to pieces in a battlefield situation. Drake is made of tinfoil and duct tape. They go in after a situation not during. A Terrapin can go in under heavy fire and not go boom in a few seconds.
I'm not sure how big the fleet battle that the engine will actually allow, but I work on the assumption both sides or atleast the winner can come in after the battle. Hard to say for sure and part of the fun of deciding how to build out your fleet.
Like a in a modular way, that would be interesting but I would expect the Medical Terrapin to come as less expensive to the standard Terrapin but I imagine they'll detail that in a few weeks during IAE for the RSI days

The medical bed design is dumb. What is the point of having multiple beds? Treatment takes seconds. What is the point of having higher tier beds? Fixing more severe injuries is poinless when the lower tier bef can print you an entirely new body. There's no design space for making better medical ships actually better. Any ship with room for a Nursa will be a better option than an Apollo because it will be as good a medical ship as the Apollo but also be better at everything else. The drone med beds could change that if you can send them into a bunker to safely rescue someone or whatnot but we all know those aren't showing up any time soon.

Information is interesting and relevant. If I understand correctly, the Apollo should be released in 2025 and with its "base" version, that is, 2 rooms with 3 beds each to treat Tier 1. Thereafter, we can "modulate" the rooms by replacing them with either a room with 2 beds nursing up to Tier 2 or "top of the top" with a room with 1 bed alone, but caring for all injuries. Is that a priori ?
It sounds like they wanted to just release the Tier 3 beds at first only, but it would be great if they released modules like they did with the Retaliator to offer 2 x Tier 2s or 1 x Tier 1.

If I was to guess, they will keep the Terrapin at a t3 bed and market it on it's increased defensive capabilities compared to C8R and Cutlass. Yes, good advice for new players - don’t buy a concept that has zero delivery date. I bought the Expanse for Pyro, but CIG have said nothing about that ship since its concept, and both its loaners, a Prospector and a Reliant Kore, are hangar queens as I moved away from mining. (The Reliants are buggy) Med ships: I’ve been flying a C8R since its launch, use it for bunker runs, it’s just able to carry a 2scu storage box. John Crewe has stated that he will do a brand update closer to IAE via ISC and SCL. Hope he does speak about the Apollo and the Connie gold standard
Indeed, unfortunately bunkers weren't working when I started so it killed that bunker running plan for me, but it's always been a great little useful ship. maybe a loaner could be good for a concept but yeah, the releases have been so hit or miss. Thanks for sharing your experience!
@@XShadowAngel My logic, when I bought the Expanse concept, was that Pyro is 4x the size of Stanton, and my org mates who mine would need a mobile refinery. This is before CIG introduced the Arrastra and the Galaxy refining module, so it’s likely the Expanse will launch after the Galaxy, and the only reason I’m holding on to the Expanse now is so I can melt it when it gets a price rise at launch, likely less than $50.
I am really confused about the medical Terrapin though. The exterior looks heavily modified, and 2 medical ships within a year? Are they planning to finally continue work on the medical system? Cause "click to fix everything" is not my idea of medical gameplay, heck even healers in traditional MMORPGs have more depths.

On your comment from a design and safety aspect about turning the Apollo's reception area into a lift for a Nursa would not be wise. You would in essence be exposing the ship interior including the medical bays to the environment should that lift be opened on the planet and or in space. A smarter method would be to back the Nursa up to the rear ramp and transport the patient though a clean room (air lock) before entering the ship. With that said, both the Nursa and Apollo (at launch) will just have Tier 3 beds. So, there would never be a reason to even transport a patient to the Apollo. If they have a Tier 2 or 1 injury, you need to get them onto a fast ship to an Endeavor, LZ hospital or call in a priest to administer "Last Rights".
I think the nurse comment is to really just get the folks to the medbay, but ultimately they should get drones, but who know how long that will take. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I definitely like the idea of taking existing ships and creating variants. Not again new ships mind you, but with over 120 playable ships in the game, many can be reworked or should be reworked with new features and updated to the gold standard prior to creating new ships. The Apollo for instance, nice looking ship, and something needed in the game, but a Valkyrie could fit the same role in a medivac variant. I think for most players this would be just as exciting about upgrades and reworks to existing ships as the appearing of new ones.
I move 1 scu box inside of C8R, and place it close to the table, so I have space to walk in and out without a problem. Cutty Red is my favourite but medical section is awfull. Waste of space everywhere, and medical beds looks like stole from grim Hex hospital and duct taped to cargo grid. Very low standard even for a Drake ship.

I love the look of this ship. My opinion is that, with the current iteration of medical gameplay it's relatively useless when you can just use a Med Pisces or Cutty Red. Once Death of a Spaceman comes out, maybe we'll have a use for it.

Not that anyone shouldn't like the new Zeus but the Taurus is just better in almost every way, except it needs another pass and is old. I see them as different classes but folks like to call the zeus a connie killer and it's just not. Even at it's warbond discount it's only $5s closer to the C1 compared to the Taurus.

I assume the terrapin will have a t2 bed. To be competitive with the 2 t3 beds of the cutty red, and make it a proper step up from the c8r.

I was told you could store your amour, strip and backspace, then respawn in the Red as a work around. I haven't tried it yet.

Refining isn't on player ships yet, so the Expanse is kind of pointless. It'll come.

I can almost garentee the medical teripin will cost slightly more or slightly less then the base but it wont drop below $200.
