    My new way to water is using milk jugs with a tiny hole pricked in it for a slow drip. I just make sure every plant has their own jug which makes monitoring water amount easier and everything is doing so well through the summer so far, including new baby transplants in this 97 degree heat.

    • @jennywren76
      @jennywren76 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That's a great use of milk jugs! Are you burying the jugs next to the plants like an olla? Or are you just putting them next to the plant on top of the soil? I'm just starting a container garden and I've been thinking of using ollas but they'd take up so much room in my containers.

    • @ffs6158
      @ffs6158 ปีที่แล้ว +85

      @@jennywren76 I just put them on top of the soil, then I can grab them and refill them all without dragging the hose. My other advice would be put the hole about 2 inches from bottom so a little water remains and the jug won't blow away lol I've learned that the hard way.

      Great idea. Although, I would have to buy over a hundred jugs for all my plants! 🤣 It’s gotta work better than my drip irrigation set up that I currently run for 2 hours at a time & my plants are STILL dehydrated 😡

    Your videos have inspired us to garden. We bought our house about 2 years ago, and the previous owner raised bird dogs in the backyard. The backyard barely has grass, the ground is very uneven, and it just isn't serving us. We are hoping to basically turn our backyard into gardens with paths between them. We currently have 6 raised beds. We started with one bed and a compost bin last year, and this year, we've expanded. I'm SO excited! I learn so much from you and the boss in every video. Thank you so much!

    Im keeping an eye out for the cucumber beetles cause im growing mainly pickling cucumbers this year and i know they attract more beetles. I have the spinosad and it seems to be working so im just gonna keep using that i think. I also use it on my brassicas cause i had horrible worm damage. Not so much anymore. I use it on all my plants. But the cucumbers are growing well so far and no beetle damage. Hope ir stays that way. I know another trick is to keep them up off the ground and that helps deter the beetles.

    I experimented this season with my cucumbers and used a net curtain from IKEA (all I had). I left the net on the entire time from planting to harvest and wasn’t expecting anything as the bees couldn’t get in. But Lo and behold, the ants got in and pollinated my cucumbers so I didnt have to remove the net. It worked and the white cabbage moths and other nasty critters couldn’t get to the plants, allowing me to harvest the most yummy and delicious cucumbers. So take note: ants do help after all.
