I love mine, it's unlocked all the tech pack on and remus exhaust system. Other bits and pieces.
Most fun bike I've owned
@@andrewmills8782 awesome
I'll wait for the duke 990 R 🙂
I think this will be the standard motor for the adventure and SMT bikes. Once the 990r Duke comes out it will have a different cam profile that better fits mid to top end less low end torque for track days and racing.
@@RobertKehl think you are right
I have a 07 990 SD. Apart from the new electronic bells and whistles, what would be the difference?
@@hailboognish3858 I race one of those. Lighter, easier better fuel, but 07 is just as fun
@ I’ve only been riding for two seasons now, first bike is a 08 SV 650S and I got the SD early this spring. It had been sitting since 2012 and had 2432k and was 6 grand so I couldn’t pass it up. I’m not at all mechanical and this thing was seriously challenging. I’ve snapped three bolts so far trying to torque to spec and thankfully the ONE video on all of TH-cam that deals with a 990 Super Duke was how to change the oil because KTM’s owners manual is complete shit. They only give you half the instructions on how to flush the engine. No mention of how to drain the fluid out of the engine. I’ve just bought a Suzuki GSX s1000 as I wanted something that engine wise might be more straightforward and reliable like my sv. Unfortunately after I got this one home and took it around the block it feels like there’s some sort of lane assist. I’ve got the tire pressure right according to people on the gsxs forum, tires visually look fine but if I lean or turn in any direction the bars pull my hands. Hopefully my mechanic can look at it before it snows. I’ve only taken it around the block a few times under 30k. It’s supposed to be nimble according to the reviews but it’s no SD if the pulling I’m feeling is just part of the bike. Have you ridden a gsx s1000 before? The one I bought is a 2016
@ yeah ridden one, a while back. What’s the question
@@Chad76Mediadid the steering feel better, worse or the same as the Duke. Or have you ever experienced anything like I was describing where the bike feels like it’s trying to steer itself
Awesome! Thank you 👍
The MT09SP is over £1k cheaper, comes with everything switched on, Ohlins and Brembos. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with as standard the one thing that all KTM’s comes with. That’s the numerous reliability issues KTM inherently have and are infamous for. 😮
Fair point. I’ll try and jump on a new Yamaha soon
this. i have the new SP on order and i can't wait for it. i also already own a KTM, and my KTM dealer tried to sell me on the 990. That's indeed a hard sell compared to the Yamaha
Neither KTM's cool factor.
@@Tenktory you’ve read to much marketing
@@Steve-motorcyclesMaybe because I ordered Duke few days ago ;) Before that I went to Yamaha dealership and was totally disappointed with MT09 appearance. I know it's priced lower but it also looks cheaper. Maybe SP version will be solution for that but it's not there yet.
First class Adam. Great video covering what we need, and the editing is brilliant. Thank you.
@@markwilliams8655 thanks man. Spread the word
I would buy the 1390 over the 990 due to build quality. However, the 1390 is less fun so in the end it won’t be a KTM for me.
Wish KTM would make a proper mid sized adventure bike based on the 690 enduro R.
Yeah that would be good
Bought the 990 a month a go. I haven't test ridden a motorcycle in the Swiss Alps for a long time with that convinced must-have feeling. Rivals where 1390 SDR EVO & 2024 MT09.
Enjoy it. Thanks for watching
Hi Chad, I love your motorcycle reviews and we have similar perspectives on motorcycles.
I'm already 51 years old and what I would really like is an SMT version of this Duke 990.
Do you know if KTM has any plans in this regard?
@@FranciscoMarvao I’ve not seen anything but it makes sense
How does the Duke compare to the street triple rs?? Price aside.. I want an honest opinion on which feels more worth it, emphasis on feels!
Triumph, lower capacity less torque more revs, possibly sportier better brakes, not as nice dash
@@Chad76Media so, ktm is more fun? Nicer to live with?
@@rns6889 ktm has more torque, more punch, wheelies etc. But Triumph still fun, just rev more, more sporty like a powerful naked sports bike
@@Chad76Media thanks for the replies 👍👍
@@Chad76Media Had an 890R and now own a 765... The Triumph is a smoother bike, looks brilliant and is nicely build. But the KTM is easy just as fast and if you have any balls it's faster. But compared to the 990 the 890R had the stylema's in front, great apex front and rear suspension, it's a few kg's lighter than the 990 and has almost as much power as the 990. (ecu remap does wonders btw).
Winner, in my opinion, the bike that KTM stopped building, aka the 890R. It's so much fun on the road and a really great track bike. Also looks better than the 990, it's headlight looks like a toilet seat.
My 765 is gonna be replaced by an 890R again... Sorry Triumph but I miss the fun factor the KTM gives me.
Trying out the 990 and the Mt09 today. Got a feeling that the £2900 ptice difference may tip it the Mt09 way plus the reliability of the Mt as against some of the problems ktm seem to have with oil leaks, camshaft and bent valves. Have you ridden the Mt 09 2024 model? If so, would like ti get your opinion of it. Cheers, enjoyed your video.
Thanks. Funny enough riding the Yamaha this week. Will let you know. The previous bike was good.
Look forward to it. Cheers
The only KTM review we need currently is one which addresses the camshaft and other critical failures on the 790 and 890 platforms... I own a KTM which luckily works fine, but I'd be hard pressed to buy any untested new design from the company with such a sh*tstorm brewing on social media.
This!
All they need to do is address it and put peoples minds at rest with an explanation and what they are going to do about it, rather than sweep it under the carpet, i'd 100 percent buy one today if they did that, but they don't seem to care. it feels like slight of hand releasing these new bikes. "Look over here at the new shiny thing" whilst like you said there's a sh*tstorm brewing.
Fair point. Maybe I can address this in a future video. I have read and seen a few comments on social media
@@Chad76Media that would be great!
But your ktm is fine
Ride it while on warranty, when the warranty expires they'll have increased displacement like twice and upgrade. Only way to feel safe on this brand
I hate the extra 1000 ish dollar to unlock the quick shifter in 2024
Some like the fact they can test before they buy, some hate it
@@Chad76Mediathat’s just an excuse of an answer, why should I be glad that my bike HAS all these features but I cannot use them unless I pay? Who would want a bike that cannot be ridden at its fullest?
@@CobGeorge I agree I wouldn’t want to pay extra, but some customers prefer a cheaper bike without aids
@@Chad76Media I think the argument is that all the features should be included in the base price as its already an expensive bike in the middleweight class
Hi. Really interesting review. Curious if you consider the Duke 890 R a really good wheelie bike too? Regards.
@@irf888 yeah good, but this is better
@@Chad76Media Sounds good, what are the main reasons you think it's better? The wheelie control feature? Regards.
@@irf888 wheelie control off. More torque nice fuelling
I want to see comparisons on road and track between the best middleweight sportsbikes now and from a decade ago. No doubt the performance has gone backwards in some ways, forwards in others. But multi cylinder supersports joy is mostly lost, and i'm not a twin guy.
Middleweight? You thinking 600cc? Or larger??
@@Chad76Media Old 600cc supersports vs everything modern thats south of 1000cc. On paper they are lighter and higher hp than most of the current crop.
@@AJTalks I will see what I can do.
I like the video- simple, clear, hit the main points, under 10 minutes, the sit down and riding mixed, good editing, personal. Recent ktm convert (from ducati) as i picked up the 890 smt. Lovely bike but wish I tested the 990 duke before purchase
Thanks and much appreciated
Like the video
Thanks
Most dealers are including the tech oack now , maybe because sales are a bit low.
This demo mode makes for a bad customer experience imho. You've already shelled out all of your hard earned money, and within 1500 km you have to pay up to keep what you just got.... It's such a let down.
My old Honda dealer understood this all too well, and even back in the 90's he always included the first service when buying a new bike. For the exact same reason. Customer experience. It just doesn't feel cool to shell out again for the bike you just bought already.
I can see why lots of potential buyers are frustrated.
Damn Chad, getting all fancy with video editing. I like it, but maybe just a tad over the top. All in all love your content, keep it up the excellent work!
Thanks I think. Should I turn it down a little?
As a guy in my mid-40s, I find it a bit much. I’d guess most of your demographic might feel the same? In my opinion, just toning it down slightly would be great, because some of the editing was cool. I love your content, though!
@@driftingfb Thanks. Just playing with the edits, up for suggestions
I bought the 2023 890r Duke because everyone that road it was blown away. It’s a brilliant street fighter machine. It’s so light and the suspension is excellent for aggressive street riding. The brakes are awesome too better than my 2021 SDR. I put the full Akra system on it plus had the ecu tuned to 125.5hp/75.5 torque. Is the 990 lighter, have better brakes, better suspension, more aggressive than the 890r Duke. You’re ridden both. Please be honest.
Another quality and enjoyable vid as always 👍🏻 loved the editing amd captions on this one, awesome! Thanks for sharing 😁🏍️👍🏻
Thanks. Hoping to add more videos this summer
@@Chad76Media looking forward to em 👍🏻👍🏻
What is its top speed ???
Sorry. Didn't test top speed as it was a road test. Probably 150 ish
990 duke or 765RS ?
@@biker_marinator5696 really good question. They are so close but very different. Got a video coming soon about this
@@Chad76Media I was looking for a 990 or 765 RS but then I got a opportunity to buy a tuono V4Factory for really good price. I’ll ride it this season but for next season, I will go for one of the others.
890R ;)
Well I bought a 1290 Evo last year and cannot complain... hopefully it will stay this way 😂
Fingers crossed
