  • Comparing a stock 2023 Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo RR to a modded 2021 Honda Talon 1000R. Both have similar power, but are two totally different pieces of mayhem.
    2021 Honda Talon 1000R mods: Jackson Racing Turbo Kit, PPEI tuning, Deatschwerks fuel pump system, Injector Dynamics injectors and return style boost referenced regulator, CP Pistons 9.5-1 pistons and ring packs, Carillo 5.084 rods. Brian Crower stage 3 turbo cam, ARP bolts throughout entire engine, and custom c1 and c2 clutch packs.

    I’m a Honda guy. 🤷🏾‍♂️ A Talon 1000X4 owner. Sports SXS with no issues, no belt, and won’t end up stranded here in the AZ desert trails. 👍🏾

    Awesome review! I have never driven a Talon so I can't compare, but I do have a blue 2022 XRS SS. Identical machine to your 23 except for the color change to the suspension components. It is my second X3. I have 2000 miles on it now and getting a good feel for what it's limits are. Your description of how it feels to drive is right on. Smooth and refined. It never does anything unpredictable except to handle sketchy situations better than expected.The Smart Shox give it a very stable and flat cornering ability when driving fast. The more I drive it the better I like it. Good luck and be safe!

    The can am is horror to get in and out of the plastic piece at the door is a knee shredder. The body is super thin and cheap plastic everywhere. The maintence on it is a PITA.
    The KRX by far is the best machine for maintence, metal firewall, doors that are fully enclosed and stout and reliable. The honda is a reliable ride the can am my be fun but a nightmare for relaibility.

    Honestly, better review the most side-by-side actual big channels. I’ve been looking for some Can-Am reviews for a very long time and that short video that you guys made absolutely blew my mind in terms ofcamera work and great editing. I really hope to see more of you guys.

      In terms of power they are only off about 50hp. That is within the skill range of racing. Honda reliability and that awesome DCT make it compete. Talon is also 400lbs lighter.

      It is worth comparing. A lot of people looking at buying sxs consider a lot of different models and the advantages and disadvantages, and the give and takes of each machine.

    I hate the seating position of the x3. You can’t see anything. It’s more of a desert style seating position. The krx and the xx have the best seating positions in the industry in my opinion.

    • @mikegrant8534
      @mikegrant8534  ปีที่แล้ว

      I liked the KRX when I test drove one, just couldn’t stand the noise, there was something about it that made my ears ring, not sure what it was. The x3 is comfortable for long hours behind the wheel, east coast riding or rocks where your in and out it gets old real quick.

    Great review! I’ve had both. No turbo on my Talon. Loved shifting! Can’t say enough about that. But I had to put a lot of $$$ into making it not as good as a stock X3. I loved that the Talon had a transmission and at the end of the day it just wasn’t worth the power, suspension ride quality and fun factor I was giving up. The Can Am is hands down in a different class from pure performance perspective. Honda build quality is better. My wife doesn’t miss the Talon’s harsh ride (we did shock therapy) and if she rides more, then I ride more. No more sore backs. Give me the Honda with 200hp+, in the X3 chassis with a transmission and Honda build quality and I’ll be back.

      there was a rumor kicking around this year that Can-AM and Polaris where possibly testing a automated manual style or Dual Clutch trans!!!! polaris makes sense as they new Pro R has the engine out of the Slingshot, adapting the slingshot DCT to a High/Low box and 4WD transfer case would be less expensive than say Can-am, they have no gear drive offerings that I know of.

    • @mikegrant8534
      @mikegrant8534  ปีที่แล้ว

      it is a DR Powersports built motor, rod piston and head work with a Brian Crower cam. I ran 3 iterations of the PPEI fuel system, the final production fuel system with Kory's tuning and injectors made right at 178hp to the wheels.

    • @momentumelectricslc
      @momentumelectricslc ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikegrant8534 that’s awesome. I don’t think I want to do quite all of that to mine. My motor is all still stock, but from what they sent me back in an email he said I would need an upgraded fuel system and map sensor so they could tune it correctly. Not entirely sure what the minimum amount I would need to change would be

    • @mikegrant8534
      @mikegrant8534  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the MAP sensor is defiantly the game changer when it comes to PPEI tuning, it makes for true open loop tuning when motor is in boost, the JR tuning is based purely off engine speed and TPS and nothing else hence why you have to retain stock exhaust with cat. JR was slated to come out with a racing setup with a MAP sensor kit fuel system and exhaust but not sure if it ever happened.... I will say with certainty the fuel system and map based tuning from PPEI are worth every dollar and would do it again in a heart beat.
