I think they tend to give the engines lots of specific openings for these tournaments (as both black and white) so h3 might not have been the choice of the engine.
@Dark Knight Chess The game comes from the ongoing "Eco mega-match" which has all openings from the Encyclopedia of Chess Openings. There are some wacky ones, but a lot of e4 and d4 theory too.
This guy does far better than Agad with his never played never would have been played detours. Canty stays on track. I do believe he is in the top 5 you tube chess men.
Actually the ability to alter Stockfish's aggression has been a feature for a long time, it's called "contempt". It is generally not a good idea to change the default as making it more aggressive and contemptuous of its opponent leaves it more vulnerable to counter attacks.
@@snappingbear I'm certainly aware of that, but stockfish is using attacking tuning it didn't have before. Contempt is more about avoiding draws, not having more awareness of how open lines to the king compensates for sacrificed material.
Stockfish's evaluation now uses a fast, shallow neural network (NNUE) in combination with its old handcrafted evaluation. That's why it's playing more aggressively and makes sacrifices more often. NNUE was trained from Stockfish games - there was no tuning from Leela.
@@davidhanley NO it IS not. If you were involved in its development or understood the code base and the neural networks developed for it you would know that.
I assume the reason Lc0 isnt taking the pawn is that they are playing with 6men tablebase. In that case capturing the pawn would immediately end the game.
Ah I see, there was probably so many pieces on the board that stockfish couldnt count all the way to the tablebase position and see that its winning and made this non sense which, in computers eyes is the same outcome (win) but for me as a person seems as a dubious way of playing (making your task harder unnececarily)
What was the time control? I've noticed LeelaChess (Lc0) on faster time controls does not play so strong. But obviously Stockfish is a beast no question asked. Their is now a LeelaChess version with NNUE technology (so all you guys don't have to buy expensive GPU to run) call LcFish . It was developed jointly with the Stockfish team.
I'm sorry and hopefully somebody can explain this to me but how did a Pawn on D4 get captured by a pond on E4. it should have only been possible if the pond was on D3. if you're not sure what I'm talking about go to this time stamp 1:50
En passant is a special pawn move - if you use the special 2 square starting pawn move to try to push your pawn past an opponent's pawn, they have an opportunity to capture that pawn as if it only moved one square forward instead. they can only do that their very next turn after you do the 2 square move, however.
Stockfish calling its own move as BRILLIANT.

Excellent commentary!
1. h3 was the only move I assume that was "in the book"; the rest is pure chess
That's right, the forced opening line was only 1. h3. Which is not even optimal for white, so black's loss can't be blamed on the book.
Great commentary, very helpful. Thanks
Great analysis sir! Thank you!
A nice game (as a Futurama fan I'd prefer a Leela win, though) and an excellent no-nonsense commentary. Thumbs up, James ;-)
I think the stockfish designers used leela to tune the engine to be more aggressive. I'm happy to see swashbuckling chess again.
