    Hi Kalab, awesome video. Thanks for the walk around and all the great information you shared. I am 60 yrs old and have had Jeeps since I was in my 20's. They are usually stock. Here to say when jeep say's trail rated it is, once you don't abuse the use of it or do the really extreme rock climbing adventures. So don't apologize for still having some items stock, they work just fine. The aftermarket Jeep world is a guaranteed money pit as we all find out soon enough😉. I am to retire soon and now in the past year overwhelmed with the thought of Overlanding and back country adventure. Lots to take away from your video, thanks. As we Jeep owners know the ride has gotten better, the heater works better and after many years we now have better headlights... Or and gas mileage is still bad but we all love our wranglers, that was untill Jeep streached it into a family JK and it grew two more doors.😁. I have a 2009 Sahara with 746KM, only a couple of alternators and a few sets of Goodyear Wranglers later... Keep making these interesting informative videos, enjoy your adventures, live your dreams. Life is short, God bless.

    2012 Rubicon here, on 37s. 4:88 gears, but stock axles (trussed and gusseted) and brakes (and rear drive shaft *gasp*). I'm a "weekend warrior" type, though and I don't bash on it since it's my DD. I used the inner liners from my stock front fenders, so I'm dealing with some of the same rattling issues as you. Let me also say that I wish I had the kinds of trails you guys do out west. All that's here is GA red clay and slippery rocks.

    • @4XTRAIL
      @4XTRAIL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jade, so true on the “how you drive it” point. You can get away with running some stock components if you take it easy on the rough stuff. Sounds like a great build!

    Nice set up! Btw, do you know if High Beam Offroad is still in business? I just recently placed an order on those same headlights but afterwards I went to check out some of their social media platforms and it seems they haven't been active since 2019.. I've also sent them an email but haven't gotten a response yet.

    Great video! It was cool to hear your progression and thought process along the way as I bought my Jeep with a lot of the hard stuff done, thinking that was the way to go, and then proceeded to redo a bunch of it anyway…

    • @4XTRAIL
      @4XTRAIL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Appreciate it Tim! Yeah, pros and cons for sure. Sometimes it’s hard to know the end goal when you’re starting out as well which can cause double work. I’m running into that with my front axle atm if/when I go to replace it I then need new gears, front drive shaft, front axle shafts, etc.

    Hey man thank you for all your videos…
    Dude I have a question. What locker should I install on my 2015 Sahara jku. I have 4:88s a full metal cloak game changer lift kit including Metal Cloak HD steering. All fox shocks and stabilizer. I don’t know if I should add lockers. Also what are you thoughts on replacing my transfer case for a Rubicon transfer case?

    • @4XTRAIL
      @4XTRAIL  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Steven! Thanks man and good question…I can say that with the Dana 30 front axle on the Saharas and Sports a front locker would probably stress that axle too much. In my case I’ve been really happy with the helical diff I had installed in the rear - it basically functions like a locker. If you ever do a beefier front axle I would say definitely try to go with an Eaton e-locker up front. That plus a helical rear diff would be a pretty solid combo imo!

  • @puckerfactoroffroad1326
    @puckerfactoroffroad1326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The people giving you crap can shove it! The dana 30 is basically a dana 44 with a smaller ring gear and different spline count. I have the 44 and 37s. Did what you did to beef it up and the stock axle shafts have even held up pretty well. Brakes are the same story for me too. I just have a 2 door but the stock brakes will still lock up the 136lb 37" trail grapplers and beadlocks. Love the build. Did what you had to do to keep it functional and looking good, nothing flashy. Looks great!

    I have my Yaesu FTM400XDR radio mounted in a custom overhead console right next to my Midland 275 GMRS. The ham never gets used and the gars is used on every trip. That is $500 that I could have put to good use somewhere else, as I mainly use it for the APRS feature so that my wife knows exactly where I am at all times. I have the same Smitybuilt and I mounted it on the roll bar's right rear upright.

    • @4XTRAIL

    Totally agree with you on not needing to upgrade the front D-30. I run 35s on mine and it’s never given me any issues. I didn’t bother with lockers either. Upgrading axles is only necessary on dedicated trail rigs that don’t spend much (or any) time on the street. A nicely built Jeep with some armor, skids, 35s, and a moderate lift is perfect for 99% of folks out there.

    • @4XTRAIL
      @4XTRAIL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ramzi! Yeah for sure. We have the regular Falcon which has these interior dimensions: 88” long x 48” wide x 60” tall (at the tall end of the wedge). It’s great for one adult (if you like plenty of room) but is comfy with two adults too. Beyond that it starts getting crowded. Typically my wife and daughter will sleep in the Falcon and my son and I will sleep in a ground tent. The Falcon XL is a little bigger and might be enough for 2 adults / 2 kids while they are little.

    Would you share why you ditched theTeraflex 2.5" lift?

    • @michaelmcclellan9422
      @michaelmcclellan9422 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the exact same jeep except mine is a Rubicon and have the 3" Tera flex lift with the older adjustable arms, (not the Alpine arms) and it is super squirrelly on the road, any dip in the road and it darts around really bad.

    • @4XTRAIL
      @4XTRAIL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael, to answer your first question on the 2.5 lift - I changed to 3.5” lift when I went from 35s to 37s for clearance.
      Hard to say on why your Jeep is flighty over bumps on road. I know that can be a common issue with lifted Jeeps but in my experience it’s usually because the Jeep isn’t setup properly geometry-wise. A few things to check: alignment, drag link and tie rod should be close to parallel (not an overly acute angle of difference between them), control arms need to be long enough to re-center the axles in the fender well, avoid using wheel adapters or extra wide wheel offsets, front sway bar links need to be tall enough to re-level the front sway bar after lift. Hopefully some of these things get you started. Might be worth taking it to a reputable off road shop in your area and having them diagnose it.

      @@4XTRAIL thanks for the detailed reply. We have checked most things you mentioned. I'll check into the rest. Thank you. Did your jeep on 35s with the 2.5" Teraflex ride nice? Any issues? Did you have the Alpine arms then?

      @@michaelmcclellan9422 Sorry late to reply here...yes, the 2.5 lift rode fine w/35s. I only had stock control arms at that stage but they performed well with that setup.

    Great build. I started a channel (with one video) but lost my jeep (JLUR)for the last 5 months due to someone hitting my front axle. I'm back in the saddle and eager to travel and film again. Like you I go from very clean to dirty and clean again and the advice I give folks when they mistake my JL for a mall crawler is, LOT'S of elbow grease, meaning washing the bottom of the jeep just like the top side and the key is to prep the bottom before a trip. As corny as it sounds, I spray the mess out of my axles, frame, etc. with a non stick tire shine. It helps prevent the dirt and mud from sticking so much, but I still have to clean by hand with purple power cleaner, a brush, and a rag. I NEVER use pressure washer of any type under the jeep. If anyone cares to look, my jeep is the Granite crystal Gray jeep in my video, be sure to watch long enough to see it clean in the beginning and dirty in the end. Lol.

    Hey man, a very humble video about your awesome rig. I have a family of 5 and have a roofnest condor XL, and havent went out camping yet, as I have not yet installed it in my JK. Do you think the Rhino rack is a must or the roof rack that connects to the gutter mount and the rear window bracket hold up? Thanks for putting out an awesome video

    • @4XTRAIL
      @4XTRAIL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rizwan, good Q. Do you know what weight the rack you’re thinking about is rated for? My guess is it wouldn’t be strong enough and/or could damage your hardtop over the long run. With that much weight up there it’s best if the rack is supported by the roll bar more than the hard top itself. The rhino rack has a foot that rests on the roll bar at the midway point of the hardtop and at the rear along the sides of the tub. This takes the load off the fiberglass top itself which is what you want to safely carry that much weight. Sounds like you’re on your way to a great set up to take the family camping!
