Great as usual.❤️ I'm Australian and my 4/5 X great granny came from Ireland during the potato famine. You can't under estimate how rough it would have been for a woman in a newly hmmmm colonised country like Australia . On a side note during the 50's the same area of cane fields were owned by Italians and the mafia were heavily involved with half a dozen murders. Thanks again until next week 🌟🦘🌟

A drop bear looks similar to a koala but has extremely sharp claws and razor-like teeth. They hide in gum trees and drop down on unsuspecting victims. Thankfully we don't have rabies over here, but their bites are very deep and painful. There isn't much of a repellent, but they find the odour of Vegemite offensive, this protects most Aussies from attacks.

Two of our 3x Gr-Grandparents & their 1y old son, arrived in Hobsons Bay (Melb. VIC) aboard the *_"JOSHUA"_* in 1852, after a passage of 85 days. The ship was struck by a heavy squall which carried away the fore and main top-masts, the fore topsale yard, the three top-gallant masts, and the lower trussel trees of the fore-mast. Yes, children! My grandmother married at 17, after helping raise her younger siblings, her husband was 20 years older and left her early with a farm and seven children! She survived but when she eventually had no daily purpose, passed away (certainly exhausted)! My Great-great grandmother, had nine children and also lost her first husband young, luckily she had the family funds to open a boarding house and made enough money to ensure all her children were educated and married well - a very strong woman, her second husband received nothing but hot meals, a clean bed and steady work! 😁

This one is hard. Most of the evidence is circumstantial. The hardest part about being a woman during that time is she didn't have any choices. You couldn't divorce, you couldn't leave, you couldn't own land, and any illegitimate children made it impossible to find work. No one wanted what they considered a "loose" woman. Your choices of occupation would have been servant, housekeeper, farm hand or prostitute. I would have probably killed him, just out of insanity for the above reasons. While the killing was wrong, he probably deserved it. Who did it? Maybe the brother but we'll never know.

Another string of tragedies brings a woman to the brink! The love-less marraige, where she was certain of not benefitting financially, made things intollerable. Without judging if she was wrongly accused, calling the young man's bluff was a foolish mistake. Great rendition B. C.

Well, what a case. Poor lass, not enough she had a tough life with no complaint, but she gains a bad taste in men. I think she was innocent and the young lover decided to hurry up her inheritance for himself. Her children didn't deserve to lose their hard working mum. Thank you for finding these cases.

William sounds awful. We cant really know how much she chose to bear his child or let him near her. Given he was a bully and her boss. It does not sound as if there was a weight of evidence against them.

8:21 My God I can't imagine being Chinese & living in a Western country in the mid-19th century. Even today in America the media is non-stop with their Sinophobia. I wonder why this was a point of disagreement within their relationship? Was Ellen kinder to the Chinese neighbours? Thank you so much for this story, BC 🙏🏼💼

The brother did it, and he also slandered her everywhere to cover his crime! 🤨 Men's gossip had more credibility, women were viewed as too emotional to be honest 😏

They had the most to gain by his death, so I say they probably did it. But still, doesn't sound like there was enough real evidence to convict. Better to let a guilty woman or man free than to hang an innocent one.

Goid Morning Brief Case! 💼 Thanks for another interesting case...this one definitely cast reasonable doubt in my mind. There was the rumor mill and gossipers pointing fingers, but who gave testimony to the effect that they were seen there at the time of the murder doing the deed? It just doesn't seem right that she was hanged on the slim evidence that there were 2 gun shots. It seems that the murder could have been committed by anyone...considering there seemed to be a very low opinion about the old man as he was either grumpy or senile (or both). Any number of people would have good reason to murder him. I'm not sure I agree with the verdict because there is reasonable doubt. They may have hanged an innocent woman! She had such a difficult life. It is heartbreaking to think she may have died an innocent. I guess we will never know...
I hope you have a wonderful week! (Resa)
